/r/all will.i.am's new track Let's Go illegally samples Arty & Mat Zo's Rebound [x-post from /r/Music]

So will.i.am's Youtube channel just posted some new tracks and one of them, Let's Go ft. Chris Brown has its main melody taken straight from Arty and Mat Zo's track Rebound.

According to Arty's tweets, no permission was ever asked for the rights to his song from his label.

It's not like Arty and Mat Zo are small time no-name producers (ranked #28 and #72 on the DJ Top 100 in 2012), and their label Anjuna is pretty well known and respected in the EDM scene. To rip them off in this day and age is either pretty bold or pretty braindead (not to mention the fact that will.i.am made a complete waste of the melody).

How do will.i.am and his people expect to get away with this level of tomfoolery? More as the story develops.

Edit:

Arty & Mat Zo's label Anjunabeats is aware of the situation.

Label mate Maor Levi brings the humor. [Soundcloud link]

Wow, this is such blatant ripoff! Levels, Cry Just A Little, Fade Into Darkness/Collide, Float My Boat/212... I guess when one is willing to stay relevant in the mainstream/pop music industry, they don't have any shame. This makes me sick in my stomach seriously.

I feel like Rap / Hip-Hop has been dead for over a decade now at this point. In a way those genres have always seemed to have a history of "borrowing" from other songs but at least it used to sound good when they did it back in the day.

Edit: wow after seeing all of the responses I apparently stand corrected. I'm actually happy to see that there are rap / hip-hop fans willing to defend the genre. What I was referring to I suppose would be classified by many of you as "pop". Also, after thinking about it there are plenty of electronic / dance songs that are good and have someone rapping in them. Sporty-O, for instance raps over a lot of breakbeat songs and I think it sounds good.

Maybe mainstream shit rap. There is WAY more good hip hop out there now than "back in the day." I suggest you check out the the Rhymesayers label.

I'm always down to check out some new stuff if a fellow music-lover vouches for the artist / label. Thanks for the recommendation.

MF DOOM. Check him out. He's the most mainstream underground hip-hop artist.

Yes. It's no contradiction.
