This has exploitative vibes.

Anyone that films their child for content is exploiting them. You don't get to use the "I film my kids because I want to document their lives so the family can enjoy them" cop-out. If you're posting them you are looking for it to blow up in some capacity; you are well aware of potential viewers that will find your videos. You just don't care because you want the views and the cheap potential dopamine or monetary benefit it might bring you.

A lot of people I know post their kids knowing no one will see it except their followers/friends. They have their profiles set to private. They’re partly doing it for documenting their kids lives but they’re also for sure doing it for the dopamine hit. They still shouldn’t post even if their profile is private unless the only people they’re friends with are very close friends and family.

Edit: People downvoting me aren’t reading my whole comment. I’m agreeing with the person above.

That should be called what it is. Child abuse.

Explain the reasoning? Why can’t they use that “cop-out” when that is the reason many times?

it's explained immediately after... record and watch whenever you want your own documentation, but posting it publicly gives away the real reason you're doing it

Clearly nobody here grew up using Facebook as a digital photo album, lol. Nowadays, things are scarier with AI, but I used to always put stuff on Facebook to save space in my phone.

you can mark stuff as private on facebook, so only you or the people you took the pictures of can see it

only in recent years does facebook even prevent people from stalking you before adding you

there is absolutely no reason to have everything public, especially of your kids who cant consent to that publicity in the first place

We're way past that era.

People just won't believe it's the reason because they need an excuse to call people bad parents.

Most of these armchair reddit parents probably don't have kids of their own.

They made a tiktok channel using the word chunk (eta: all to feature their obese toddler). Stop being so ignorant because you’re worried about judgement. Life is nuanced, and people who go after influencer lives using their children are absolutely exploiting them. It is not at all the same as people just posting to regular degular social accounts, and nobody said it was. Maybe you won’t believe it because you just need an excuse to deal with your insecurity. Meanwhile, fools like yourself excusing everything parents do is how people get away with abuse for as long as they do.

It's really freakish how a large share of people -- including on Reddit -- accept filming your minor children for content. You're selling your children for either money or fame.

Regardless, it's a complete invasion of a child's privacy. How does that not create trust issues or insecurity as a young adult?

I also have to question the person posting a video of a literal baby to this type of subreddit, also along with the gawker commenters.

Look at their tiktok, they named their child CHUNK. They know what they're doing.

1

u/Kinsmonn 27d ago

It’s just a nickname… because of his weight. They did not name him chunk in hopes of him being big. I’ve seen their tik tok before and if I remember correctly, he’s been distanced with something. It’s not abuse.

It definitely is. She’s not actually making an effort to stop this behavior, either. Like his size aside (which absolutely is an issue and needs addressed, but comments have done that plenty) I think his behavior in the video could easily be stopped. By the looks of it, he’d already knocked down a ton of shoes. As soon as you see it, as a parent you could say “if you don’t stop pulling the shoes down I’m going to move you.” And then follow through. He’s big, but not that big. Yet.

Looking at that kid I think there is a developmental disorder. Maybe Prader Willie syndrome?

We don’t know why this was recorded or the context for why it was posted. The mom seems calm and is having the child help pick up the mess he made. If this was posted as a means of education about children with disabilities then it’s honestly a pretty acceptable video.

u/peridotpicacho 28d ago

I agree.

It’s the pattern and quantity that makes the difference.

If someone posts a few videos of their kid for a specific reason other than to get fame or money, that’s one thing.

But if they are just filming everything on a regular basis to create content and try to make money off it, that’s exploitative.

Some people act like there should never be a picture or video of a child on the internet at all, and if there is, they say it’s exploitation.

She posts him daily on tiktok, and is proud of how big he is.

Disabled children deserve privacy as much as any other kid.

1

u/Sqeakydeaky 28d ago

Oh this child is just an accessory to her. If she spent even half as much energy on their health and development as she does blinging out her kid with elaborate braids and PIERCINGS.

1

u/adhd-alt-here 27d ago

Just want to put it out there that for some cultures, piercings for babies is a matter of fact. Not saying it’s right or makes anything else right, but I wouldn’t equate it with the other egregious indicators we’re seeing

genuinely.
put the camera down and teach them that they need to clean up/fix the things they destroy. it’s not funny…. kiddo. needs. structure. and. consequences.
the worst part is he’s gonna end up in one of my special ed classes in a few years because he has “no impulse control”, ADHD, or another condition that keeps him from behaving and learning.

u/adhd-alt-here 27d ago

That’s not how ADHD works
