What I really miss is having enough time on my hands to devote it to messing around with custom OSs qnd such

Becoming a parent is a choice. You have to make sacrifices such as less time for hobbies. It's not like they randomly lost time to tinker, they made a choice to give up such things.

..duh? They decided to do other things with their time, and mucking with their phone (potentially putting it into unstable states in which it might miss a call from partner/kids/work, become unbootable, etc.) is now a much lower priority.

Add that stock ROMs are better than they've ever been, with long support time-frames and more features, and the need for custom ROMs becomes even less. It's a double whammy to the cost/benefit ratio of custom ROMs.

This.. Life is lifing and the time to tinker and flash roms and keep up with forums etc is just not there any more. Now I just want a phone that works.

Sad this is what it has come to

I spent too long a few months ago trying to find a custom ROM for an 8" Galaxy Tab just because I hate touchwiz and Samsung's preloaded garbage that much.

You could make the time, it's just not a priority for ya anymore.

Sadly there's less and less developer friendly devices as bootloaders on many phones are locked with no way out.

Basically moto, pixel and OnePlus. Older phones like LG are still active too.

Exactly. BS comments. You decide what your time goes to. I still flash ROMs on my devices just like on the HTC G1 15 years ago. Doesn't even take long. It's way faster compared to the past.
