PSA Lady Bird Lake Boardwalk Under I-35 Closed October 12–18

Heads up to Austin runners, walkers, and cyclists!

The Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail boardwalk under I-35 is closed October 12–18, 2026 due to TxDOT construction of the new pedestrian bridge.

If you’re planning to run, walk, or bike the full 10-mile loop this week, plan accordingly.

A few things to know:

Closure: Monday, October 12 through Sunday, October 18.

Location: South shore boardwalk at I-35.

Alternative access: South Lakeshore Boulevard east of I-35 or the trail entrance west of I-35.

After October 18: Access under I-35 is expected to resume, although portions of the boardwalk will have restricted access through early 2027.

I ran into the closure today and figured I’d save others the surprise.

The closure will run from the old Joe's crap shack to the Amli South Shore. Good luck crossing 35 at riverside...

oh man the joes crap shack reference is a deep cut. crossing 35 at riverside is such a mess even without construction i'd rather just turn around and double back

Yea it was an absolute disaster trying to bike that today. The closest crossings are wishbone and Congress if you're trying to avoid it.

yeah it's gonna be a real pain for the next week - hoping construction finishes on time 🤞I crossed over 35 back to the north side of the trail.

Some of us commute on the trail and use it to get somewhere rather than just walking around for fun

Cidercade has been open for 6 years and is very popular. I think it's safe to stop saying "the old joes crab shack"
