Sadists, Sociopaths and Their Pits Garbage dogs for garbage people. Indianapolis man charged after throwing brick, releasing dog that bit child - Oct 5, 2026
IMPD says James Smith was arrested after he showed back up to the house where the attack happened as officers were investigating.
INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man is accused of randomly attacking a man and child outside a home, throwing a brick at the child and then releasing his pit bull to attack.
James Smith, 52, is charged with:
- Battery resulting in injury to a person younger than 14 by an adult (Level 5 felony)
- Possession of cocaine (Level 5 felony)
- Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon (Level 6 felony)
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction (Level 6 felony)
- Battery resulting in bodily injury (Class A misdemeanor)
- Two counts of dog bite liability causing bodily injury (Class C misdemeanors)
The incident happened Oct. 5 at a home on Parkview Avenue, near Washington Street and State Avenue on Indianapolis' near east side. IMPD officers were called to the residence on a report of a fight.
According to court documents, Smith pulled up to the home while a man and his 13-year-old son were outside playing. The man told officers an unknown man, later identified as Smith, began honking his horn and yelling before getting out of his car, picking up a brick and throwing it.
The brick struck the boy in the abdomen, court documents state.
"Throwing a brick at somebody in and of itself is dangerous," IMPD Officer Drew Brown said. "It's a deadly weapon. When you do that against somebody who's under the age of 14, especially that's much more serious in the eyes of the law."
Investigators said a fight then broke out between the two men.
According to court documents, Smith later returned to his car and intentionally released his pit bull, which attacked the father and son. Officers documented bleeding and bite wounds on the boy's abdomen.
The father also suffered a dog bite to his leg, as well as bruises and cuts from the fight.
"The allegations that he let his dogs out to intentionally bite somebody is disturbing and completely uncalled for," Brown said. "You are responsible for your pet's actions at all times."
While officers were still gathering information, Smith allegedly drove back to the scene and was taken into custody, according to court documents.
Police reported Smith showed signs of intoxication, including a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and poor balance.
According to court documents, Smith became agitated and resisted officers, telling them, "Y'all gonna have to kill me."
Animal control officers took custody of the pit bull, court documents state.
"We're thankful that nobody was more seriously injured, but this was entirely preventable," Brown said.
Smith was later taken to a hospital for a blood draw, where he became combative with medical staff and allegedly said he could "whoop they a**es."
Court documents state officers found a brick and alcoholic beverages in Smith's vehicle. They also allegedly recovered a digital scale and suspected crack cocaine from his person.
Smith was booked into the Marion County Jail, where he is being held on a $32,000 cash bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for December.

Life Flight Emergency Polk County, TX: Woman life flighted after being attacked by four pit bulls, Animal Control also bitten - Oct 11, 2026
POLK COUNTY, Texas — A 35-year-old woman was seriously injured after authorities said she was attacked by four pit bull-type dogs while walking along a roadway in the Quailcrest area near Lake Livingston.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said the attack happened during the evening hours of Oct. 11. The woman told deputies she tried to back away from the dogs to keep a safe distance when one of them attacked her, causing her to fall. The other three dogs then joined in, displaying what deputies described as pack aggression.
People in a passing vehicle stopped and scared the dogs away, ending the attack. The woman asked them to take her to a hospital, but they left the scene. She then walked to a nearby home, where a neighbor helped her and emergency services were called.
Deputy Anderson Walker was the first deputy to arrive. The sheriff’s office said he provided medical aid to control her bleeding and protect her from the elements. After determining she needed immediate hospital care, he drove her to Livingston CHI St. Luke’s Health. Because of the severity of her injuries, she was later flown by Life Flight to a hospital in Harris County for additional treatment.
After taking the woman to the hospital, Deputy Walker returned to the area and identified the dogs’ owner. The owner received citations for failing to vaccinate the animals and allowing them to roam at large. The dogs were secured until Animal Control arrived.
Deputies and Animal Control personnel removed the dogs from the area and took them to the Polk County Animal Control Facility. The animals were placed under the required 10-day quarantine for rabies observation.
During that process, Animal Control Officer Krista Lawson was bitten on the hand.
Once the quarantine is complete, the Sheriff’s Office said it will move forward with the process of having the dogs declared dangerous.

Update:
A 35-year-old mother of four faces a lengthy recovery after deputies say four dogs attacked her Sunday evening in the Quailcrest Drive area near Lake Livingston.
The woman, who goes by Cassie, is receiving treatment at a Houston hospital. Her father told KPRC 2 she has undergone two surgeries and will need additional procedures, including reconstructive and plastic surgery.
Deputies describe attack
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Cassie was walking along the roadway Oct. 11 when four dogs described as “pit bull type” approached her.
She tried to back away to maintain a safe distance, but one dog attacked her, causing her to fall. The other three then joined the attack, the sheriff’s office said.
Cassie told investigators that people in a passing vehicle stopped and scared the dogs away. She asked them to take her to a hospital, but they left, according to the sheriff’s office.
She then made her way to a nearby home, where a neighbor helped her and emergency services were notified.
She was subsequently transported by Life Flight to a hospital in Harris County for further treatment.
Owner cited; dogs placed in quarantine
After taking Cassie to the hospital, Walker returned to the neighborhood and identified the dogs’ owner.
The owner received citations for failing to vaccinate the animals and allowing them to roam at large, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies and animal control personnel removed all four dogs and took them to the Polk County Animal Control Facility. Animal Control Officer Krista Lawson sustained a bite to her hand during the removal process.
The dogs were placed under a required 10-day quarantine for rabies observation. The sheriff’s office said it will begin the process of having them declared dangerous after the quarantine ends.
What a dangerous-dog declaration means
Under Texas law, owners of dangerous dogs must register the animals with animal control, keep them in a secure enclosure or on a leash under a person’s immediate control, and obtain at least $100,000 in liability insurance or demonstrate equivalent financial responsibility.
Owners must also comply with applicable local requirements. Failure to comply can lead to court-ordered seizure and euthanasia, subject to appeal protections. A dangerous-dog declaration alone does not automatically require euthanasia.

Social Media and Crowdfunding - Attack Reports Little boy attacked in Kentucky USA, late April or early May 2026
The GoFundMe was posted May 2, 2026, so the attack presumably happened within a short time before. The location is Kentucky, United States. The child appeared to be maybe three or four and was bitten on the head and face. It appeared to be one deep bite, but fortunately with no tearing. His mother, the author of the post, was bitten on the hand pulling the dog off of him. Of course the useless shitbull owner refused to pay for the damage his murder mutt caused.

Personal Story Aunt put pitbull down, October 10, 2026, Mcallen TX
Aunt put pitbull down, October 10, 2026, Mcallen TX. last week my uncle was putting the sectional cover on the sectional when their pitbull thought that my uncle had a cat or something in his arms. So he begun attacking. He jumped on my uncle and his claws dug into my uncle’s arms and legs. My uncle had scratches on his arms. But the thing that really got my aunt and uncle is that the dog would not listen and they describe that something snapped in the dog and they lost control. I knew this would happen but didn’t want to say anything in the years before this. The dog was once owned by my cousin and her ex boyfriend. Im not surprised that the boyfriend got the dog. he was the type who owns them. but my aunt is the type who is adamant that its not the dog its how they are raised and there was no reasoning with her. I have to pick my battles. and I don’t want to pick a fight with my aunt. but I’m glad the dog is now dead. I’m not sorry or sad about the dog. It doesn’t deserve to be mourned because it would have mauled someone and wagged its tail.

Human Fatality(ies) 4-year-old boy killed by godmother's pit bull. Moreno, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina 2026-10-10
Tragedy in Moreno : A pit bull killed a 4-year-old boy who had gone to spend a few days at his godmother's house. The incident occurred inside a home located at 2500 Fresnos Street, in the town of Francisco Álvarez. The neighborhood is in shock.
According to what Primer Plano Online was able to reconstruct with sources from the investigation, the woman left the house with her partner to go pick up her daughter from skating and the little boy was left alone on the farm.
Apparently, the animal managed to enter through a ventiluz (small window) and, not recognizing the child, immediately attacked him. Upon returning, the woman, identified as Yohana Mercado (31), found the horrific scene: the dog on top of the bloodied child, still biting him in various parts of his body.
“When they managed to pull him out , the boy was already dead,” sources close to the investigation told Primer Plano Online. The boy was identified as Homero Mauro Leonar Fernández. Prosecutor Carina Saucedo ,of UFI No. 2 in Morón, ordered the woman's arrest while she evaluates what legal action to take. Initially, she is being charged with manslaughter.
The judicial official also ordered the transfer of the child's body to the morgue for the required autopsy. The dog, meanwhile, was placed in the custody of the Municipal Zoonosis Department.

Personal Story Took a chance on a tiny mix and regretted it
Went to shelter adopted tiny pit mix, seemed quiet and docile, now in hindsight I’m pretty sure was illegally dosed with trazodone or another sedative.
At first peed thought no problem, takes times to adjust. After two weeks I’m gonna return her, for a litany of issues.
So far:
Separation anxiety
Cat aggressive
Over-stimulation and chokes herself jumping 100x per walk
Pees on the floor with no warning over a dozen times IN FRONT OF US 20 minutes after being walked many numerous times
After being put in crate just pees in crate if left longer than 1-2 hours even after being walked before being put in.
I am angry, and I feel bad getting rid of a dog but there’s something mentally wrong with her, if I give her treats and treat her well, i notice she gets more anxious/resource guarding and pees in the house more.
She tried bolting for an outdoor cat on a simple walk, and growling at one inside who was a good distance away.
At a relatives house we had some children inside, she peed 20 times, as the crate had not yet arrived.
In the crate nonstop whining and scratching even staying by her and petting.
I don’t know why anyone would inbreed an entire genetic lineage this fucking bad, I don’t know why you’d drug a dog to offload it on someone who will inevitably return it.
It’s so frustrating as I’ve grown up around dogs all my life and wanted to take a chance, and now I’ll never adopt again from another fucking shelter.

Child Victim Girl killed by pitbull in back yard. Family adamant it was a cougar, and that the dog was a Cane Corso. Breed confirmed as Amstaff by girl's father. August 13, Graham WA.
The family of a 5-year old girl found dead in their back yard claimed it was a cougar that killed her, despite police having to shoot the dog to get to the girl's body. The family originally described the dog as a Cane Corso, but in the September 26 article linked above, the girl's father confirms it was an Amstaff belonging to a friend. The police took the unnusual step of correcting the family's claims it was a cougar before DNA testing was complete.

We’re trying to grieve.’ Sheriff Swank’s posts hurt deceased girl’s family By Peter Talbot Updated September 23, 2026 10:40 AM
The day the family of a 5-year-old girl killed in Pierce County laid her to rest, they still did not know what happened to their “beautiful” and “sassy” little girl. While they grieved, Sheriff Keith Swank posted his opinion online with a tone of certainty. “I need to set the record straight,” Swank wrote Sept. 12 on X, responding to a post that claimed the girl was killed by a cougar. “The dog, I repeat, the dog killed this poor child. It is very tragic, but it was the dog, not a cougar.” Alice Jo Sandholm Locke’s cause of death had not been confirmed by the Medical Examiner’s Office, and it remained pending Tuesday. In follow-up posts on social media, a commenter asked Swank what the source of his information was. He responded: “My brain.” Swank went on to accuse some members of Alice Jo’s family of spreading lies, and he said he was considering releasing body-camera footage of the dead child. He said he hadn’t shared it because of the trauma it could cause her family and the community. In an interview with The News Tribune on Sept. 17, Alice Jo’s parents, aunt and grandmother explained that they were offended by the sheriff posting what he thought happened to Alice Jo without facts to back him up and without speaking to her mother and father. Josie Locke, the mother of Alice Jo, said the posts were too much. “We haven’t gotten answers,” Locke said. “That’s why we don’t understand why he was able to even talk about it because nothing has come back.” Justice Sandholm, the girl’s father, questioned why Swank chose to weigh in at all. “If his daughter passed away, would he want me posting on there my conspiracy theory about what happened to his daughter without having factual evidence?” Sandholm said. “Or would that man, as a man, be mad and hurt?” Alice Jo’s family emphasized that they don’t know what killed her, but they want people in the Graham area to be aware that there have been confirmed cougar sightings so they know to keep a close eye on children. Locke said law enforcement should not exclude it as a possibility in her daughter’s death investigation. But the family is concerned that’s exactly what has happened. “It could have been the dog, could have been a cougar, could have been anything, but we don’t know,” Locke said. “So at the end of the day, another little kid walks down that road and dies, that would be on him, and that’s wrong.” In a written statement to The News Tribune on Tuesday, Swank defended his posts on X. In his posts, he said if the Sheriff’s Office thought a cougar was responsible, they would have had the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife respond to help capture or kill the animal. “I stand by what I said on X about the dog being the one that killed the little girl,” Swank told The News Tribune. “It is a tragic event, and no family should have to experience what they are going through.” Deputy Carly Cappetto, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, said Tuesday that a preliminary investigation indicated the child’s injuries were consistent with a canine attack. But she said DNA comparison between the deceased dog’s saliva and Alice Jo’s wounds would provide confirmation and help investigators make final conclusions. “We understand there are members of the community who remain concerned that a cougar may have been responsible for this tragic incident,” Cappetto said. “The DNA analysis is an important part of the investigation and will help provide clarity regarding the animal involved so that appropriate conclusions and responses can be made.” ‘I screamed and screamed and screamed.’ Alice Jo died Aug. 13 at a property south of Graham, near 304th Street and 92nd Avenue East. She was spending the day with her grandmother, Paulla Snider, at a friend’s house. Snider said Alice Jo was on a deck when she went inside to turn off some water. The first call to 911, according to the Sheriff’s Office, was for a missing girl. When deputies arrived, Cappetto said an aggressive dog came at them outside the property, and a woman came out to restrain it. Deputies told her the dog needed to be put away if she wanted help looking for the girl. “The investigation goes on from there,” Cappetto said. MyNorthwest News reported that deputies shot and killed an aggressive dog found near Alice Jo’s body. A detective told the news outlet that the animal had gotten in the way, and that they needed to render aid to the girl. Sandholm said the dog belonged to a friend of his and that it was related to his dog, a type of pit bull called a Staffordshire Terrier. He said his daughter had spent many weekends around the dog without issue. Locke said she heard about the incident and called 911, too. She was told the road was likely blocked off, but she went to the property and made it through. Law enforcement vehicles lined a gravel road. The rest, she said, was a blur. “I made it halfway up the road, I think, and I turned around because I didn’t want to remember my daughter the way that they were explaining things,” Locke said. “And I just sat down, and I mean I screamed and screamed and screamed and bawled.”
About a month later, on Sept. 17, investigators carried out a search warrant at the property. Deputy Carly Cappetto, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, said it was necessary to finalize investigative reports. “Once the reports are completed, they will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review,” Cappetto said Tuesday. “Any decisions regarding the case moving forward will be made by the prosecutor.” Swank demanded apology from girl’s aunt Alice Jo’s funeral was Sept. 12 at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood. Hundreds of people attended, and a horse with flowers in its tail pulled a carriage that held the girl’s white-and-pink casket. She was born in January 2021 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma. Locke said she was the most beautiful girl she’d ever seen.
“She’s the closest thing there is to perfect,” Justice Sandholm said. “She’ll tell you that. She’ll say, ‘In my world, I’m the closest thing to perfect there is.’” Alice Jo lived in Spanaway and Graham. Her aunt, Patience Sandholm, said all of her family helped raise her. Patience Sandholm said she was a grandma’s girl, a momma’s girl and an aunt’s girl. She said she could talk all day about Alice Jo. The day of the funeral, an account on X posted a screenshot of a Facebook post from Patience Sandholm. The post said a cougar had killed Alice. Now, Patience Sandholm says she doesn’t know what killed her niece, but she does have evidence of recent cougar sightings. Patience Sandholm showed The News Tribune a photo from a neighbor’s trail camera of a cougar in the area in late August. And the Department of Fish and Wildlife’s map of predatory wildlife incidents shows one confirmed sighting Aug. 24 east of state Route 7, near the Maxine G. Morse Nature Conservancy. “I have proof of there being a cougar,” Patience Sandholm said. “I have video footage of the cougar from multiple neighbors. I even have more reports. They’re just not following up and doing their job. I am.” The day after Alice Jo’s funeral, Patience Sandholm said she was at her desk when she got a phone call from a number she didn’t recognize. It was Swank. In the conversation that followed, Swank demanded an apology for scaring the public, according to Patience Sandholm. She said she told him his online posts had been “beyond disrespectful.” “I’m going to need an apology from you for all this (expletive) that you’re stirring up because we’re trying to grieve,” Patience Sandholm said. “Nobody wanted to get on social media and do all this. Nobody wanted to do all that.”
Snider said she thought the night after the funeral was the first time she slept since Alice Jo died. She said the whole thing had been “like a big nightmare,” and the last thing she wanted was to hear from a cop who she said didn’t know what he was talking about. “Until something’s been confirmed, I just wish everybody would just stay out of it, you know,” Paulla Snider said. “It would be better for us, all of us. It’s hard every day to live with her being gone, my baby.” This story was originally published September 23, 2026 at 5:00 AM.
