I said the same thing in half as many words to my buddies from college.

It baffles me. We have every resource imaginable. We have one of the largest and most passionate fan bases in the game to the point that we're known as a cult (we are).

I don't fucking get it. I've been watching this disappointment for decades.

It seems impatience is a big part of it. If a coach isn’t winning championships in 4 years then he’s out. Same with QB’s. There’s also the coach selection where we take coaches that are clearly past their prime like Franchione and Jimbo rather than picking someone with potential who can help foster a culture of success.

Elko is a huge breath of fresh air because we finally picked a guy who proved he can win games but doesn’t come with the expectation of recreating some past explosive success like Sumlin had at UH or Jimbo had at FSU.

We’re already seeing the impatience about Weigman who hasn’t played in a down in nearly a full year and struggled in a new offensive scheme against a very tough defense. We know he can be successful based on last year’s performance, but we need to give him a few weeks before we can declare the world is on fire.

I do think impatience is a big part of it. The move to the SEC is another example of that. If manziel's years were still in the big 12 (which was pretty bad at the time), you might have gone undefeated and met Bama in the national title game. Instead you lost a couple games and defeated Bama in a meaningless game and they won the title. OU was the second best team in the big 12 that year, and you absolutely stomped them in the bowl game.

It also led to you massively overspending for Jimbo, who was already showing clear signs of being fraudulent at FSU. I do think the Elko hire is the sort you should have been making all along. Up and comers who are either great assistants or early head coaches. That's where programs find their bob stoops or Kirby smart or (god forbid) art briles.

I think it's partly because the Aggies have a massive inferiority complex that you don't see at a lot of other schools of that size. They are much more concerned with the appearance and trappings of success, without having the patience to try and build it from the ground up.

Basically true. I think the move to the SEC was a nice idea but yes probably rushed as we basically tried to reinvent our story and dropped all our storied match histories to get a bit more TV recognition.

Hopefully the Elko choice is a sign of changing mentalities because I can’t handle having idiots try to describe us as the iPhone of CFB again or whatever nonsense these marketing people come up with.

And I've made justifications like that every year for the last 8 years. At some point you have to cut the cope and realize there's something deeper.

Also no shit if a qb doesn't win the ship in 4 years you move on, they have 4 years of eligibility.

Obviously we don't do that with QB’s, when we’re lucky to have the same QB start two years in a row. That was just  awkwardly phrased.

The point still stands that the AD just dumped money at the first sign of any success with Sumlin and Jimbo. Texas also had a coaching carousel the last 12 years but they didn’t blow their load the first time Charlie Strong or Tom Herman had a decent season and give them championship trophies.

Most teams go decades without winning a championship despite having resources but only A&M seems to dump a bunch of money on a coach and pretend he’s about to be the second coming of Saban every year.

But jimbo CLEARLY wasn't getting us anywhere. It's wild to pretend otherwise. The man had top 5 recruiting classes for 3 years and still lost to fucking wake forest.

There needs to exist a line. Don't get me wrong- I'm all in on elko. But without a good OC a&m is fucked with him coaching. He's defensive mind is second to none. He brought back the wrecking crew in what, 15? I believe in elko. I think everyone does. I don't know if the problem is just weigmann or a combo of him and our oc.

I hope I didn’t imply that Jimbo didn’t have enough time. I thought the Jimbo hire in general was a mistake considering his best days were clearly behind him. It was just another example of A&M boosters thinking that you could take a shortcut to success.

We’re also on week 1 against a very good defense. Conner was nervous enough to throw up while walking. The OC and the whole system is new. I’m disappointed we couldn’t pull out a win, but far from panicking. Even Johnny’s first start was a loss after all.

Johnny's first start was a loss SOLELY because of Bertolet. Kicking cost us the game against florida.

From at outsiders perspective, I think it's the OC. I didn't like the way they called the game today. Yes, weigman was having a horrible game, but they certainly didn't do him any favors. Could've schemed something up to get him in a groove, but they just kept banging their head against the wall. Also, the run was working and they seemed to abandon it when it mattered most.

As an Indiana basketball fan, I understand what you are going through.
