Texas has way better wins than any of the other bubble teams, but also the worst loss

I don't think we'll be in, but I'll be curious to see what the committee does

If they want controversy and viewers Texas is in the playoffs. Otherwise I am happy for the season because we beat our rivals and our young o line will get better next year.

u/creamulum1 Texas Longhorns Nov 29 '25

By that do you mean 3/5 are replaced by portal players?

52

u/AdamOnFirst Northwestern Wildcats Nov 29 '25

You need a LOT of chaos. If Bama or OU loses (and OSU wins) it’s MILDLY interesting. If OU AND Bama lose it’s maybe actually sort of interesting. Still don’t see you hopping Miami.

u/sunburntredneck Alabama Crimson Tide • Texas Longhorns Nov 29 '25

Keep in mind, in the eyes of the committee, Miami did not beat Notre Dame. They may as well have not played. We can just assume Miami opened the season by beating Northern Delaware. With this in mind, the argument becomes more coherent

It’s such revisionist history that the ND win didn’t mean anything for Miami. They were ranked #2 in the AP poll and they were legitimately in discussions for being the best team in the country in early October: https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-football-rankings-ohio-state-miami-oregon-locked-in-tight-battle-for-no-1-spot-in-cbs-sports-136/.

All they had to do was lose less than 2 games in a conference that has 0 other serious at large contenders for the playoff.

It’s so true 😂

3

u/RealRevenue1929 Texas • Notre Dame Nov 29 '25

Miami has to beat Pitt who is trying to save their season after getting slapped around by ND. It’s highly unlikely Texas makes the playoffs but it’s not hard to see it happening either.

Let’s got Pitt!

-1

u/Unique-Trade356 Nov 29 '25

What happens if Ohio loses to Michigan

7

u/AdamOnFirst Northwestern Wildcats Nov 29 '25

Then the committee does whatever it can to find a spot for Michigan well ahead of Texas

2

u/thisistheperfectname Michigan Wolverines Nov 29 '25

Wouldn't exactly be finding a spot if Michigan had a better record, better losses, and probably the best win in the country.

1

u/AdamOnFirst Northwestern Wildcats Nov 29 '25

Michigan’s issue wouldn’t be about Texas, it would be about displacing somebody in front of them like Bama. If OU, Bama, ND, and Michigan all win I think k it genuinely puts the committee in something of a bind.

-15

u/WhereInDaFuqIsWaldo Miami Hurricanes Nov 29 '25

no way they deserve to hop us objectively. surface level they have more losses and lost to our common opponent (that we killed mind you). Knowing the committee and where the money is they will tho. even (assuming we we win tomorrow which is no guarantee) tho we add another ranked win

22

u/robotsincognito Miami Hurricanes Nov 29 '25

They do have good wins. It’s hard to discount that. The committee will easily discount their bad loss though.

-4

u/WhereInDaFuqIsWaldo Miami Hurricanes Nov 29 '25

im not discounting it just saying we should still be ahead of them

10

u/_4D4M Nov 29 '25

Do you think you can beat Texas? Curious. And what score?

3

u/XCCO Iowa Hawkeyes • Oklahoma Sooners Nov 29 '25

If I can oil up my body to be extra slippery? It'll be close, but I think I stand a chance because they'll underestimate me.

1

u/WhereInDaFuqIsWaldo Miami Hurricanes Nov 29 '25

absolutely we would beat texas in my mind. Prob a similar game to ND like 27-24 or smt like that

2

u/inqte1 Nov 29 '25

1 more loss but played more good teams and more quality wins. Its not black and white.

0

u/godzillamegadoomsday Nov 29 '25

I mean they beat the teams that both beat bama and Texas so shouldn’t those be quality wins

1

u/AdamOnFirst Northwestern Wildcats Nov 29 '25

I mostly agree based on W-L count alone, but I think there would be soeculation

22

u/tr1cube Clemson Tigers • Illinois Fighting Illini Nov 29 '25

It’s weird, because I don’t think a 3 loss team should be in, but I DO think those good wins outweigh the 1 really bad loss. Texas had a fluke game against Florida and is one of the top 12 teams.

13

u/LoudHorse25 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Nov 29 '25

I feel like this glosses over the middle of the season where they had 3-4 matches they escaped. They could easily be a few plays away from 6-6 as well.

3

u/F1_revolution Texas Longhorns Nov 29 '25

Our OL was retooled about 8 games into the season. The starting center got hurt and the backup had to start, played decent enough, so when the starter was available again they just played him at LG and we haven't been a total turnstile at that spot since. It's still not good, but that spot isn't abhorrent like it was.

3

u/RegularHabit834 Texas Longhorns • Florida Gators Nov 29 '25

We also lost to Florida by one score and ohio state by one score so we could easily flip literally two plays and be 11-1 with the only loss being UGA. It works both ways. Wins just matter less.

2

u/tr1cube Clemson Tigers • Illinois Fighting Illini Nov 29 '25

You are right. I guess I didn’t really pay attention at the time, but needing OT to beat both Kentucky and Miss State in back to back weeks (who are combined 3-13 in SEC play) is hard to overlook.

41

u/DVauthrin Texas Longhorns Nov 29 '25

Notre Dame lost to Texas A&M at home who just lost by 10 to Texas. Their only quality win is three-loss USC.

Texas has three top-15 wins (Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt). The reason to put Notre Dame above Texas is they have one fewer loss. It’s going to be an interesting conversation for the last spot if Ohio State finally can beat Michigan.

If Pitt wins tomorrow, I’ll change my stance about them. Georgia Tech doesn’t have a ranked win all year. They essentially were a better version of Missouri in the SEC who stayed ranked by beating who they should and losing to every ranked team they faced.

10

u/WakingEchoes Notre Dame Fighting Irish • Team Chaos Nov 29 '25

Keep pretending the Kentucky, Mississippi St and Georgia games didn't happen.

10

u/HambFCFB Wisconsin Badgers Nov 29 '25

The committee has shown time and time again that winning close games against bad teams does not effect blue blood team's rankings.

1

u/LoudHorse25 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Nov 29 '25

You don’t get punished, but you dint get rewarded for it either. And when a cause for punishment comes in the form of a L, they absolutely factor it in then when deciding rerank a team.

15

u/DVauthrin Texas Longhorns Nov 29 '25

The Georgia game was 14-10 going into the fourth quarter. Texas absolutely sucked in the fourth, with Kirby Smart’s onside kick being the nail in the coffin. Texas certainly didn’t play well against Kentucky or Mississippi State, but they won.

Also. Notre Dame struggled with 1-10 Boston College, too. It goes both ways.

8

u/DVauthrin Texas Longhorns Nov 29 '25

Also, I will not be surprised if Texas is left out, and I’m fine with that. That said, Sarkisian does have a point about the Ohio State game. If Texas schedules a gimme in week 1 and wins, even with the loss to 3-8 Florida they would be a playoff lock at 10-2 with three top-15 wins.

-4

u/WakingEchoes Notre Dame Fighting Irish • Team Chaos Nov 29 '25

You also looked like cheeks against 2-9 UTEP.

Lmao, you guys looked like shit as often as you looked good this season.

14

u/DVauthrin Texas Longhorns Nov 29 '25

Other than beating Oklahoma and being very competitive in Columbus against Ohio State, Texas did not look good until the November 1st game against Vanderbilt, I agree.

Notre Dame lost its first two games of the year and represents Miami’s only ranked win of the season. You sucked ass to start the season, too.

Compare the resumes and objectively tell me Notre Dame’s resume is better than Texas. If I believed Notre Dame had the better resume, I’d say so. They don’t.

1

u/DVauthrin Texas Longhorns Nov 29 '25

The Florida loss may keep us out, and that’s fine. But Texas’ resume stacks up favorably to Notre Dame’s and Miami’s.

Enjoy the W tonight bro

11

u/DVauthrin Texas Longhorns Nov 29 '25

I always enjoy my alma mater beating A&M.

-1

u/MilkyRed Texas Longhorns Nov 29 '25

Alright lil bro. Glad you got to see what beating A&M looks like tonight

1

u/steampunker14 Texas Longhorns • Army Black Knights Nov 29 '25

Two games we won? People keep bringing up Kentucky like they didn't do the same damn thing to Georgia LAST YEAR.

Mississippi State also took other good teams down to the wire. I don't really see how a 17 point comeback in a hostile environment is some sort of gotcha.

7

u/farfle10 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Nov 29 '25

*’One fewer loss’ and has looked like an infinitely better team for the last 2 months

3

u/DVauthrin Texas Longhorns Nov 29 '25

Notre Dame looked like a better team in October, minus Texas beating top-10 Oklahoma. In November, both teams have looked good overall. Texas dominated Arkansas last week, beat Vanderbilt at home and A&M tonight with a dominant second half.

Outside of a poor 4th quarter in Athens, Texas and Arch Manning have played well this month.

1

u/LoudHorse25 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Nov 29 '25

If we’re doing transitive wins-loses here, you’ll have to get in line behind Miami who actually beat us H2H but is ranked behind us.

2

u/DVauthrin Texas Longhorns Nov 29 '25

I believe Miami should be ahead of Notre Dame in the current playoff rankings with you both having two losses and them having the head-to-head win.

2

u/nd5thyear Notre Dame Fighting Irish Nov 29 '25

And the most losses

2

u/burywmore Oregon Ducks Nov 29 '25

Texas is not a bubble team.

4

u/ParaBrutus Ohio State Buckeyes • Michigan Wolverines Nov 29 '25

The committee will be angling to get Texas in. None of the other bubble teams have nearly the TV audience draw.

5

u/PM_ME_YOUR_FAV__SONG Oklahoma • Red River Shootout Nov 29 '25

You just can't justify putting a 3 loss team that lost to a 3/4 win team in the CFP (yes I know we did not score an offensive touchdown against that team but that does not negate my point)

11

u/nbunkerpunk Texas Longhorns • Paper Bag Nov 29 '25

The radio guy said this is the first time a team had three top 10 wins in six years. I was a little surprised by that info. I doubt Texas will get in but the chaos on this sub if they would be magical.

10

u/moffattron9000 Team Chaos • Sickos Nov 29 '25

Counterpoint: Counting top-10 wins on weeks that are not the current week are dumb. If you did that, Charlie Strong would have a top 10 win in 2016, even though that win was against a Notre Dame that went 4-8.

3

u/TeeDeeTeeEcks Texas Longhorns Nov 29 '25

I agree with you, but those teams are all top 15 now anyway. OU and A&M are still top 10. Vandy literally would be top 10 if they had beaten us. Our fault for beating them lol.

None of them went anything close to the 4-8 Charlie Strong example.

0

u/nbunkerpunk Texas Longhorns • Paper Bag Nov 29 '25

I definitely see a valid argument for both mindsets. I don't really pay much attention to stats like that but I do recognize that the energy going against a top 10 team is very different than going against an unranked team. Hindsight is always 20-20 but I'm very confident players treat those two examples differently, even if coaches say they don't.

2

u/steampunker14 Texas Longhorns • Army Black Knights Nov 29 '25

A team that made the national championship last year lost to Northern Illinois.

2

u/MentalDesperado Ohio State • Wooster Nov 29 '25

Will depend a bit on other games, but personally, I think you’re in.

1

u/_Reaper_of_Mars Ohio State Buckeyes Nov 29 '25

This is my take as well.

1

u/j48u Ohio State Buckeyes Nov 29 '25

They have the worst loss, but also the objectively best loss - since that seems to be important now.

1

u/Awkward-Freedom-2962 /r/CFB Placer • Vanderbilt Commodores Nov 29 '25

Texas IMO basically has to get in the top 10 in order to go to the playoffs. 12 seed will be the AAC champion and the 11 seed will almost certainly be the ACC champion unless Miami makes the ACCCG and wins which is unlikely. Unless major chaos happens tomorrow they probably don’t make it.

Unless the committee throws them in for controversy and money; I wouldn’t put it past them to do that.

1

u/FrogTrainer Ohio State Buckeyes • Toledo Rockets Nov 29 '25

They also have the best loss.

-3

u/Xavier207 Texas Longhorns • Bayou Classic Nov 29 '25

We are definitely better than the 4 teams ranked ahead of us plus ND, but if we don't have 4 really poor games we'd be in rn.

Saying that Texas game was neck and neck is very disingenuous.

1

u/AuraMaster7 Texas Longhorns Nov 29 '25

Both of which were neck and neck until late in the 4th

Did we watch the same game? We were up 24 until the 4th quarter. We collapsed in the 4th quarter, you literally have it entirely backwards.
