Cig is a pyscho coach. Stone faced while his team dismantles Alabama in the rose bowl. He gave us a single smirk at the end and went right back to being the joker.

My reaction after the Oregon game that we might get to face Indiana again: 😃
My current reaction after watching the Indiana game play-out: 😨

He’s going to be a menace for the foreseeable future. He’s gonna fill the Saban void I think.

Alabama’s never been considered an underdog, and Saban already won a National Championship before he took over. If Cignetti stays at Indiana and has long term success, he’ll be the guy with a statue outside of the stadium, and remembered as the guy who made them a powerhouse team.

You think people begin to hate him and Indiana like the Saban dynasty or is this just too good of a story?

Nobody ever liked Bama because they were never a Cinderella. I think if it happens it’s way more like when Clemson won the first recent championship. We got a couple years where it seemed like everyone was cool with us because we were beating Bama, then the support cooled haha.

I think the support for IU will last noticeably longer than it did with you. Clemson is no Bama but generally has had a history of decent success, even having a title back in 1981.

The Chiefs hate didn't really start until the Damar Hamlin incident basically gifted them the 1 seed.

I agree with that. Hopefully we get to see that.

2

u/siblingofMM UCF Knights • Big 12 Jan 02 '26

Yeah could see that, would be nice to see Indiana have some solid years under Cig. College needs more coaches like him

Why are you getting downvoted? This is a good question.

Maybe people thought I was being disingenuous? Not sure, I thought it was an honest, reasonable question. But it’s reddit, so anything goes

Curt Cignetti is the most feared man in college football and he looks like my accountant.

Accountant here. Tracks.

I mean the joker does smile. I get what you’re going for here, but that’s a very significant thing that happens.

He was referring to Absolute Batman Joker, maybe

That is what is scary. Tom Osborne and Nick Saban were both similarly during big wins (just look at the 1996 Fiesta Bowl, when the legendary '95 Huskers were destroying Spurrier's Florida Gators, Osborne was scowling and venting frustration that they weren't dominating even harder). Cignetti is of a very rare type.

That hospital still got destroyed less than Bama did

Shades of another coach who famously was never satisfied….

1

u/Zealousideal-Ad-1676 Jan 02 '26

Here’s hoping he never throws a chair. I am truly worried, though, that his game-time glare is going to start a fire someday.

Saban's spirit left Alabama and went to Indiana.

He's CFB's version of Dan Hurley but just a lot less bitchy

1

u/aksoileau LSU Tigers Jan 02 '26

I feel like this would have been Kobe if he ever got into coaching.

u/TheMiddlechild08 /r/CFB Jan 02 '26

It’s not about money. It’s about sending a message

1

u/TimmyPenguin Jan 02 '26

I'm pretty sure he's manic tbh, he's definitely something!

1

u/Snow_Wolf1069 Jan 02 '26

Mark Dantonio of the NIL era, hopefully he raises the trophy like Mark's 2013 team would've if they weren't snubbed

Saban, Belichik, Cignetti... they are all cut from the same cloth
