Apologies to rational fans in the thick of it, but I’ll enjoy the “should OSU move on from Ryan day” takes for the next year/until he wins another natty.
If he got fired he’d have at least 125 job offers by the end of the day. I used to say it was only bama Georgia and Clemson, but now I think it’s only Georgia and Indiana that wouldn’t give him a call.
Yeah, this honestly hurt way less than I thought it would. The fact we made it to Atlanta, won a playoff game, and have the #2 incoming class after our coach's 2nd season also helps soften the blow.
While this is the death of the "mystique", I'm just glad it appears it's not the death of the program. I can handle being a fringe playoff team most years. I'm just glad we appear to have avoided going the way of Nebraska, at least for now lol
His comment history is full of calling people fake fans for not crashing out enough after the loss, but he also apparently never pulls against Auburn except in the iron bowl because of “mutual respect” or some shit.
Burn what down? I want to do the opposite. But we can't build ourselves up and do better if our attitude suggests that losing our conference championship AND the Rose Bowl is good enough.
1) not a bowl game
2) sure as hell not the Rose Bowl game
3) whatever it is, it doesn't have a trophy or a meaningful outcome, so again, nothing to show for it
4) they beat us in the regular season, so it's breaking even at best
Literally nothing to show for our efforts this season. I seriously don't know how else to put it. But I guess some of us are happy with just winning some games?
I'm glad to see somebody say this. Losing obviously blows, but I was in college to mid 20's when Nebraska had their moment in the sun. The older I get, I'm just grateful I got to see that sustained level of awesome for my team that really had no right to ever be that good.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Cigars on fire on the Third Sunday in October. I watched field goals glitter in the dark in the 2011-12 BCS NCG. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
I know better than to let my emotional outlook on things be dictated by a bunch of college kids(and shitposters on reddit). If we win, then great, if we don't, then oh well.
Moreso everyone's schadenfreude & the result of this specific game(and the SECCG), not the year as a whole. I know what an actual bad year is like, and I'll be able to deal with those just fine.
Honestly the consistent national championships thing isn't even my biggest issue, its from a fan perspective that when I was a student you'd know the names of a lot of the players cause the roster wouldn't change much at all. You'd see new ones who replace the graduating ones, obvi but you weren't seeing such giant lineup changes to where each season you go "who are these people". Idk it's probably not actually important but its something I kinda miss.
This is honestly why my interest has waned over the last few years, yeah. But I was just answering on if anything like Saban's run could happen again, & I don't think it's possible if you have to re-recruit your team every year
Man you’re really on Bama’s dick for a Longhorn lmao. Sorry they got utterly destroyed today, it’ll be ok dude. They lost FOUR games this year. Florida State is a worse loss than any of those you just listed btw. So is getting beat 38-3 by Indiana. That’s an ass stomping.
There’s actually a short list of teams that didn’t lose to Windiana by 35. Welcome to the NWO. This sub is like watching Ron Burgundy cope with a female anchor.
The only true blemish on the season is the week 1 loss to FSU. Their other losses are all to playoff teams, two of whom they traded wins with. Even if they're "not a top 10 team," this is hardly a bad season. Any other program would kill for this to be considered a down year.
Also it's my duty to mention that it's hilarious reading a claim like this from a ND flair.
Why do you assume that ND even would have made it to the second round considering they couldn’t beat the two playoff teams they played?
All this hypothetical glazing for Notre Dame is insane. People act like it’s a guarantee that they’d be competitive, yet the only actual data we have says otherwise. The best thing on their resume is a loss to a team that didn’t score a TD in the first round. I’m supposed to believe it’s a sure thing they’d play Indiana close?
12-team playoff. OU, JMU, and Tulane are objectively behind them. I’d say A&M falls behind them too. That puts them at #8.
The options for teams to jump them are: ND, Texas, BYU, Vandy, Utah.
Vandy is obviously out. Texas’s claim is pretty weak given a similar resume, but Bama only caught a 3rd loss because of the CCG. Unless you really want to say all 3 of those other teams have a better claim than Bama, that still leaves them in the top 10.
They still have some top recruits. I would not count em out so quickly. DeBoer might be toast though. So might the "don't consider conference title game performances in the final rankings" thing.
It was always going to come down, just a matter of when. Saban not only took Alabama to such great heights that regression was inevitable, but he also dipped out right as NIL and the Transfer Portal really started ramping up.
Now it’s a completely different landscape in college football in terms of team building and roster/organizational management.
Don’t let it bother you. They will go back into panic mode when yall start dominating next year. Some of us have decades of angst from Saban ruling the cfb universe lmao
fully embrace College Football Accelerationism. Duke beating Virginia, Diego Pavia gets another year of eligibility, Indiana winning a playoff game in football, all harbingers of the end times. we will be reborn with a full realignment
Y'all always make fun of teams for 'hypothetical wins' yet completely discount actual wins.
You guys are clearly insanely biased and don't care about actual reality. Youre the same type of people that said TCU didn't deserve to be in when they got smacked in the title, despite them ALSO actually winning a playoff game. Keep operating on blind hatred, its so funny
I agree. It’s a completely different world in so many ways from the Saban era, but it’s hard seeing Alabama in the way we all did. That dominance will be really hard to replicate I think with how college football works these days.

This is the death knell for the rep they built from the Saban era for me. Goddamn.
