Buckeye’s, I would have let them score and tried to use the full minute to get a field goal. Let’s get me on your staff.

A full minute and at least one time out.

KIrby would've nailed that for sure, scored a full TD, then kicked onsides to just twist the knife as the game clock ran down to 0:00.

u/Dr_Findro Texas Longhorns Sep 13 '26

Kirby would have converted a fake punt while up 20

It's kinda crazy we didn't. Not to mention conservative play calling and taking a down the field shot on 3rd down leading to a longer field goal.

Absolute disaster coaching across the board after half by Ohio State. They genuinely let the players down

Auther smith is ass

We can blame day sure, he hired Smith, but that hair Mary and a fucking hook and ladder were both panic calls like the game was over. He was playing for a miracle.

Sark was arguing for the td and im over here like "no, no, sark. Let them lose the game."

Everyone and their fucking invalid grandmother knew that was the play. When they brought dude down at the 32 millimeter line that was all she wrote.

Its Matt Patricia, guy is notorious for boneheaded defensive playcalling

1

u/MightyParticular2332 Sep 13 '26

Maybe OSU should do the fan be the defensive coordinator lmao except it's in the 4th quarter for one series ☠️🤣

Said that after the catch where he was tackled at the 1 initially. Better to just let him run in. Think we would have had ~1:20 at that point.

Ryan day doesn’t know ball

u/GamingTatertot Clemson Tigers Sep 13 '26

The clock management by both teams there was insanity.

Just a disaster of end of game management by Ryan day.

A full minute with a timeout? jfc day is so stupid

u/JelloJeremiah Texas A&M Aggies Sep 13 '26

Don’t forget going for it instead of taking the 25 yard field goal earlier.

I genuinely wonder if it’s an Ego thing. Like, he thought they could just do prevent defense and run out the clock, and that they could just stop them at the goal line with no effort. How inflated did Day’s head get?

I think the two early turnovers got into his head and made him complacent.

1

u/JelloJeremiah Texas A&M Aggies Sep 13 '26

They definitely did. He thought he was playing Maryland or Wisconsin where he could run the ball up the middle and spam prevent defense for the second half and call it a day.

4

u/Weed_O_Whirler Purdue Boilermakers Sep 13 '26

OSU was trying to stop them, and Texas wasn't using clock. It was a very odd series of plays.

As much money as these programs throw around, spend 100k on a "Situation Analyst" who just plays NCAA '27 all the time and has every scenario already figured out.

1

u/JelloJeremiah Texas A&M Aggies Sep 13 '26

I mean shit CFB27 coaching suggested plays would have won that game

2

u/Fathoms_Deep_1 UCF Knights • Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 13 '26

There was a browns game against the chargers a few years ago where they were in the same boat, and their solution was to literally get behind the runner and physically push them into the end zone.

Should’ve done that

2

u/starvs Sep 13 '26

They just missed a pretty easy field goal? I don't think it's a given that going for the goal line stand is worse probability than the alternative you outlined.

2

u/JelloJeremiah Texas A&M Aggies Sep 13 '26

The kicker was 3/4 on the night with a long of 48. Rough miss, but it’s not like you couldn’t trust him to make one. The goal line stand is 102% worse odds than my suggestion (with a 2% margin of error)

2

u/TeeDeeTeeEcks Texas Longhorns Sep 13 '26

I actually think our RB didn't really try to score on first down. He ran straight into the pile and didn't even make a second effort. But I do think he tried to score from the second down onwards.

1

u/callyour_bell Texas A&M Aggies Sep 13 '26

Can’t march down the field if you’re not on offense! Are they stupid?!

1

u/KeThrowaweigh Ohio State Buckeyes • Maryland Terrapins Sep 13 '26

Or not played prevent defense to begin with so we had a much better chance of getting the ball back with several minutes and all our timeouts…

1

u/lilboytuner919 Ohio State Buckeyes • Marching Band Sep 13 '26

You can be our head coach!

1

u/reap3rx Ohio State • North Carolina Sep 13 '26

Do you promise to also fix our fucking kicking game? If so you're hired.

1

u/JelloJeremiah Texas A&M Aggies Sep 13 '26

I’ll find some homeless dude from Australia and pay him $50 to be the kicker

1

u/reap3rx Ohio State • North Carolina Sep 13 '26

You're hired, Coach JJ

1

u/gmr548 Texas Longhorns • Washington Huskies Sep 13 '26

They thought they were going to keep Texas out.

Reddit always says "let them score" and a lot of the time it's a bad take but Day really should have let them score
