I genuinely have no clue what their plan was after the penalty

Looked like it was supposed to be a hook and ladder that got shut down

I’ll start my own football game. With blackjack and hooks.

In other words, a misdemeanor

1

u/lampshade69 USC Trojans Sep 13 '26

Hook em

1

u/grahamalondis Texas Longhorns Sep 13 '26

Isn't it a hook and latter? Like hook and lateral? Latter and ladder are pronounced exactly the same way but one makes sense because it describes the play and the other one sounds like a child's board game.

lol they thought they were us

Damn I’m old for getting that reference. Also bonus points since it was against OU

One of the funniest games ever

I think they wanted to do it the play before as well and just didn’t

1

u/Tarmacked USC Trojans • Alabama Crimson Tide Sep 13 '26

The receiver hesitated for some odd reason

1

u/FrostTroll69 Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 13 '26

It was a hook without the ladder

Honestly good on the WR for not trying to force the lateral when he saw it fall apart

1

u/decoy777 Ohio State Buckeyes • The Game Sep 13 '26

Yeah it was that didn't go well. But smart to not toss it and fumble. But when you don't have a time out it's not gonna go well if you can't get out of bounds

1

u/FuckThesePeople69 Sep 13 '26

I thought it was hook and “latter”… as in lateral.  Am I crazy?  Either way, it ended up hook and horns tonight. Fun game.

No, it's hook and ladder. The nickname is a homage to snakes and ladders.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '26

We call that the Hook ‘em and ladder 🤘🏻

Day’s had some nasty late game playcalling chokes in his career

13

u/plinywaves Northern Illinois Huskies Sep 13 '26

Was definitely supposed to be a hook and ladder play but it fell apart.

Probably not worth trying some trickery like that unless you have practiced it a lot

1

u/foampro Washington Huskies Sep 13 '26

It was either that or a Hail Mary

4

u/size0618 Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 13 '26

“Establish the run”

Ryan Day, probably

Why not chuck up to J. smith, Calvin Johnson style

2

u/TheOrangeFutbol USC Trojans • Tennessee Volunteers Sep 13 '26

You see, it was a failed lateral setup in the middle of the field in your own territory with no timeouts to set up the final play where you have to dial up another miracle to get into field goal range, except time will run out before you can get out of bounds on the second miracle play.

It was very simple, really.

Do I really look like a guy with a plan

- Ryan Day

1

u/AutomaticAccident Kalamazoo Hornets • Michigan Wolverines Sep 13 '26

That, I think, is Ryan Day's biggest flaw as a coach: he can't improvise when the initial plan doesn't work.

1

u/opensourcefranklin Sep 13 '26

Looked like a failed hook and ladder. I think they knew Sayin can throw down the field like 45-50 yards max, a hail mary was never gonna happen.
