Les Miles lost to Ole Miss in 2009 by spiking the ball as the clock expired when they were down 2, well within FG range, one play after letting like 15 extra seconds tick off the clock before taking a timeout.

I was at that game,, sitting next to the visitor section. Everyone in the damn stadium was befuddled when the game ended.

The Les Miles school of clock management at LSU was something else. Also, that isn't, because you also won equally dumb ways with the same said clock managment.

I was jumping up and down on my couch like Tom Cruise yelling "Thank you, you beautiful idiots" at the TV when that happened.

I remember during LSU week last year telling the bus driver one morning about the play and she thought it was hilarious that Les Miles would even try that play to begin with. Idgaf what team you are, you don’t spike the ball with that amount of time left. You get your field goal team out there and kick a game-winner. It’s not rocket science.

Eberflusian levels of clock management.

I think Tennessee getting so confused by LSU's confusion and having 13 men on the field was worse.

What about that GT loss where all they had to do was take a knee, but they ran it, fumbled it, and the opponent (Miami, I think?) ran it back for a TD? I think I’m remembering that correctly.

ETA: was it the other way around? Someone help me out. I just know it was a brutal way to lose.

2023, Miami ran it and fumbled when they could have just kneeled on 3rd and 10 with 0:35 on the clock and GT had no timeouts remaining. GT recovered with 0:26 left and threw a TD on 2nd down. Bad and absolutely a coaching blunder, not necessarily a QB error like this one.

Maybe he thought the secret clock had a second left.

As bad as that was I think this is worse.
