Ya, turns out there’s only a handful of dudes who can coach a championship squad and it’s near impossible to know if you have the guy until they’re your head coach.
Yeah, but how many across the country told us 4+ years ago that snagging Napier from Louisville was a homerun hire and that he was going to work out better than Urban Meyer did. We heard that from coast to coast about what a great hire the man in the black polo was.
I think he could have been a lower G6 HC this last offseason if he really wanted to. Curious to see if he holds off a year or so and waits for a good job opening in the SEC since likely the only openings in the SEC are.likely South Carolina and maybe Arkansas if they decide to can silverfield after 1 season? Idk if I'm missing a school
Faulkner will get a huge offer to coach at FSU. He was amazing at Georgia Tech, awesome at Florida, and now FSU watches elite Miami and Florida dominate while FSU program has collapsed.
There's an old saying in Tennessee - I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee - that says,
'fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again.'
I'd like to see the stats on it, but my gut says you're probably better on average getting a really good coach from a lower level than a second-hand coach or an activ co-ordinator.
They aren't exactly the same beast, but the things that correlate to running a winning program at the G6 and FCS levels also tend to be things that correlate to running a winning program in the FBS.
Just need to not do anything stupid like hire a coach who won games because he had a P4 level QB at G6 school or something, then it's a bit more of a sus hire. But sustained success over the period of several QBs, you probably are getting a good one.

Maybe hiring a successful G6 coach can indeed work
