FEI SOR

Strength of schedule ratings represent the number of losses a team two standard deviations above average would expect to have against the schedule of opponents (ELS), the number of losses a team one standard deviation above average would expect to have against the schedule (GLS), and the number of losses an average team would expect to have against the schedule (ALS)

Ok but you understand the AP is 62 voters in media across the US. Do you think they get on a group chat Sunday morning and all decide together where to rank teams? I mean just win games and the ranking will come. I would have Duke right now at 25 and Mizzou out.

No but the issue is the preseason rankings. I've seen the Mizzou vs. ranked opponents stat thrown around a lot this week. Their lone ranked victory in that span is #24 Boston College in 2024. Why was BC ranked? They beat "#10" Florida State, who then went on to finish 2-10. BC would finish that season 7-6, but Mizzou still gets credit for a ranked win.

We're seeing that same thing play out with Kentucky right now.
