Armchair experts get tf in here and explain to me what the fuck just happened. Jayden Baugh was 12 carries, 13 yards, 1.1ypc at one point. Is Mizzou secretly good? Florida had a let down game? Like seriously wtf
Mizzou's front 7 is legit good. They have a good QB and great running game. Mizzous weakness is their secondary...Mississippi St has a very good QB and Florida has a below average QB. I think that's the best way I can describe the situation
Mizzou def front line was insane. Just shut down the running game of FL. I personally saw this a 100 miles away and didn't assume Baugh would work them silly with his run game......
Florida ran into defense that can stop the run and made them one dimensional. The offense begins and ends with Baugh. Also their defense kinda ass but they scored so many points it didn’t matter in previous games.
You nailed it. It was pretty apparent in our game that Florida’s offense started to struggle every time Philo had to drop back and pass the ball, but our run D was so bad that they just kept running it down our throats without an issue.
Even though Philo is his guy, it's still gotta be tough going from Haynes King, a QB who could turn a shitty game plan into a victory, to a mere mortal at the position.
Talk among the GT crowd that the friction between Key and Buster reached its peak before the Pitt game last year; Buster wanted to start Philo, bench King, and run his game plan. For a few weeks, it has seemed like Buster may have been right. I'm not so sure. It seems he still has problems calling games where his "Plan A" doesn't work out, but he doesn't have The King to bail him out anymore.
Also a lights out running game makes the defense look good because they are rested and the coaches have time to look for answers while the opponents offense feels more pressured.
Watch enough Academy games (Army, Navy, Air Force) and you notice that is usually how those teams win. When ND plays Navy, I can usually tell in the first quarter what the game is going to look like. If Navy hasn't punted or turned the ball over in the first quarter (or if ND hasn't had multiple quick scores), it is going to be a nerve wracking game to watch.
Florida and Mizzou run similar wide zone schemes and Florida’s passing game apparently can’t help alleviate. That was really my only Mizzou lean for the game: the can stop the run and practice wide zone runs everyday, can Florida throw? Evidently not
That was his final state line, and 12 of those yards came on the first carry of the game. The pass defense is a problem, but the run defense looks legit.
I'd feel a lot better about where we are right now if not for what Alabama did to Mississippi State today. Makes our loss to them last week look quite a bit worse.
Baugh's first carry of the game went for 12 yards. His other 11 carries went for a combined 1 yard and 6 of those carries were for negative yards. Missouri's defense completely swallowed him.
Mizzou plays its best when it has something to prove. They made a whole season-long slogan out of it a few seasons ago. However when it’s a very comfortably winnable game, mizzou shits itself and then plays with it
I mean… Mizzou lost to 16 straight ranked opponents before today and haven’t lost to an unranked team in 2-3 seasons. Which kinda proves the opposite of what you said. They’ve been incredibly consistent about beating bad teams and losing to good teams.
