Florida has fallen for the classic blunder of declaring themselves back after beating a ranked opponent. Believe me I would know

u/trextra Texas Longhorns 13d ago

Listen, I’m still not sure Texas is back.

u/OptimisticTexasFan Texas Longhorns 13d ago

It’s a little reassuring that Ohio St took care of business and Tennessee could actually run the ball today but I’m always on edge

The sequence of LSU blowing out Clemson, Ole Miss beating LSU, Florida blowing out Ole Miss, and Missouri blowing the doors off Florida... makes things a little confusing. Does this mean Texas A&M is beating Missouri next week?

62

u/OptimisticTexasFan Texas Longhorns 13d ago

If it means they lose to the Citadel the next week after that then sure why not

14

u/master_roshis_hat Nebraska Cornhuskers 13d ago

We have some quite compelling "circle of suck" material going on here.

13

u/MyNameBrandon Ohio State Buckeyes 13d ago

The spirit of the PAC will never die

5

u/master_roshis_hat Nebraska Cornhuskers 13d ago

We just need Arkansas to get involved somehow.

8

u/OptimisticTexasFan Texas Longhorns 13d ago

South Carolina we found a new job for you!

2

u/master_roshis_hat Nebraska Cornhuskers 13d ago

The circle must be completed! Which means South Carolina must be sacrificed to Clemson at the end of the year lol... and SC needs to beat someone...

1

u/mudbutter8 Nebraska Cornhuskers 13d ago

That'd be classic t&m and I'm here for it

5

u/duddy88 Princeton Tigers • Texas A&M Aggies 13d ago

The Aggies aren’t beating anyone with a pulse. Marcel Reed is ass

3

u/deadzip10 Texas A&M Aggies • TCU Horned Frogs 13d ago

Having seen him play this year, I can assure that’s a relative compliment - I like watching some asses.

3

u/deadzip10 Texas A&M Aggies • TCU Horned Frogs 13d ago

I have watched this team and I can assure you that is not happening. We. Are. So. Bad.

3

u/Oneanimal1993 Utah Utes • Vanderbilt Commodores 13d ago

It means every one of those teams (minus Clemson) is really a 18-30ish team and none of them ever deserved to be ranked in the top 5

1

u/master_roshis_hat Nebraska Cornhuskers 13d ago

The truth!!

2

u/HuevosProfundos Georgia • Colorado State 13d ago

So like an It Follows situation?

1

u/master_roshis_hat Nebraska Cornhuskers 13d ago

Perhaps... Missouri does play Arkansas in 3 games, I would be perfectly ok if the curse holds out until then. You know. For the lolz

2

u/lolFuckIce 13d ago

8-4 always finds a way

2

u/JakeFromImgur Indiana Hoosiers 13d ago

Please for the love of God no

1

u/master_roshis_hat Nebraska Cornhuskers 13d ago

For the lolz??

0

u/OptionsDonkey 13d ago

Well, Clemson sucks

1

u/master_roshis_hat Nebraska Cornhuskers 13d ago

Well yeah that's kind've the point... or joke lol. Does that mean they ALL suck?

2

u/uno_novaterra Auburn • North Carolina 13d ago

Tbh Tennessee did not look like a ranked team today

223

u/Mapex_proM Nicholls Colonels • LSU Tigers 13d ago

You guys have been a fixture in the playoffs and in championship games since you got your coach. Shit I’d say with Herman too, he fuckin sucked and was quite a dick but he did help make Texas respectable again even if he was frustrating. Wouldn’t say he brought yall back but he brought yall somewhere

48

u/Mavvvs41 13d ago

Yup beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl

4

u/Alone_Advantage_961 Maryland • Notre Dame 13d ago

Also lost to Maryland

2

u/FearTheAmish Ohio State • Mississippi State 13d ago

2x times if I remember right

0

u/Alone_Advantage_961 Maryland • Notre Dame 13d ago

Still blows my mind. I expected it the opposite way.

Also part of a 4 year stretch where one of my flairs opened with Texas. 3-1 but almost a clean sweep. Too bad Texas was back in 2016

40

u/NA_Faker Texas Longhorns • Wisconsin Badgers 13d ago

Herman stabilized the freefall Strong had us in and Sark started helping us climb out of the hole. Won't say we are back until we win a natty

4

u/Mapex_proM Nicholls Colonels • LSU Tigers 13d ago

Pretty reasonable. I’m just glad to see yall competing again

16

u/notwhoiwas12 Alabama Crimson Tide 13d ago

I can agree but Texas has never really been known for winning tons of Nattys have they? Doesn’t seem like it

12

u/ACNH_Solitude Texas Longhorns 13d ago

I mean we have 4. And only 16 teams have won national championships since 1936, when they started the top 25 rankings.

We are top 10 on that list. And we are like the 8th strongest blue blood according to the blue bloods chart. Feels about right.

We can't all be Bama brother

16

u/mildorf Texas Longhorns • Lonestar Showdown 13d ago

No but winning it all or making the natty with an SEC championship are the only two endings where Texas is **** (I’m not gonna say it)

5

u/Mavvvs41 13d ago

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted lol. Very reasonable take and I agree

5

u/apathynext Texas Longhorns • Rutgers Scarlet Knights 13d ago

2 final 4s in last 3 years. No one else has done that. If that’s not “back” then what is? If it’s title or bust then “back” can only be like 3 teams.

4

u/Mapex_proM Nicholls Colonels • LSU Tigers 13d ago

Yep. I fucking hate title or bust mentality. The consistent greatness yall exhibit to me is back. You guys are always three plays from the natty, and in this day and age that says something

1

u/loopybubbler Ohio State Buckeyes 10d ago

Kinda fortunate to be in the final four both times tho, coming down to luck in scheduling. I don't think its controversial to say Georgia in 23 was probably better overall than Texas and Alabama, not to mention FSU who was left out while undefeated. And then in 24 the bracket was broken and Texas got soft opponents (and still nearly lost to ASU). Penn State had the same advantage in the 24 bracket and that "final four" designation is misleading for them as well.

1

u/apathynext Texas Longhorns • Rutgers Scarlet Knights 10d ago

It’s not controversial that Texas made it either though (as 3 seed). Georgia’s schedule that season was extremely soft.

The game against ASU had some of the most favorable officiating you’ll ever see to bring a team back from the dead.

Wins are wins. Texas was also only 1 play from beating Washington…it works both ways.

1

u/loopybubbler Ohio State Buckeyes 10d ago

Yeah I mean I would've put Texas in too that year, they deserved it and to have a chance. I guess my point was more like, making the final four doesnt mean a team is one of the 4 best (like if you had to bet your life on an outcome).

2

u/apathynext Texas Longhorns • Rutgers Scarlet Knights 10d ago

Ok, make it top 6. That’s still elite.

2

u/brobbins8470 Oklahoma Sooners 13d ago

Championship games? What championship? They've made two total conference championship games with Sarkisian and no national title games

4

u/danoflano3000 Texas Longhorns 13d ago

😂

1

u/Mapex_proM Nicholls Colonels • LSU Tigers 13d ago

Which is two more than they’ve had since Mack brown? A

2

u/JustAManAndHisLaptop Oklahoma Sooners • /r/CFBRisk Veteran 13d ago

Wrong lol they made it with Herman

2

u/brobbins8470 Oklahoma Sooners 13d ago

That doesn't mean they've been a "fixture" though

1

u/FellKnight Boise State • Tennessee 13d ago

Yeah, as much as the "Texas is back" memes were funny after 2016 vs Notre Dame, even as a total neutral to slight dislike about Texas, they are absolutely "back"

10

u/good_morning_magpie Nebraska • Northwestern 13d ago

Hey bud, spare a little back for a former conference rival? For old times same. Just to get me by for a little while. I’ll pay you back I promise.

7

u/ncxhjhgvbi 13d ago

That game against OSU two years ago could have gone either way honestly. That was the true champ game

8

u/International_Gap719 Missouri Tigers 13d ago

You’re back…I think

9

u/Blanknameblank818 13d ago

We’re good not great. Our schedule is ROUGH, would be happy if we finished the regular season with 2 losses.

0

u/hopeless_dick_dancer Texas Longhorns 13d ago

I know we’re making jokes and all, but that’s stupid. We’ve been back since 2023.

Another self hater. Must be a Texas state alum

1

For real. Kind of disgusting to see someone say this shit.

1

u/Catracholoco Alabama Crimson Tide • UAB Blazers 13d ago

If beating Arizona st in a recently invented playoff quarterfinal game is back then you’re there!

-1

u/Titleist917d3 Oklahoma Sooners 13d ago

Considering they didn't make the playoffs last year and this year is undetermined its kinda hard to declare they are back. At least the aren't a complete no show dumpster fire like my team.

3

u/SouthernSerf Texas • South Carolina 13d ago

How about OU try and win a playoff game before trying to weigh in on wether or not Texas is back.

0

u/Titleist917d3 Oklahoma Sooners 13d ago

Hey thats fair but we've made it to the dance plenty of times and thats better than lots can say. And ive been on this side of the rio grande hearing about texas is back for the last twenty years and it never seems to materialize.

We've been falling upward this season. I'm very uncomfortable.

As well as going in against a Sicilian when death is on the line

I’m just relieved we may still have up to another decade of mid gator football if they follow a similar timeline

1

u/rmckenzie2255 13d ago

So you enjoy not having competition? Sounds boring.

6

u/BillyBobChorton Georgia Bulldogs 13d ago

I enjoy the misery of the gators, absolutely. I suffered through the 90s and Tebow years for this.

2

u/rmckenzie2255 13d ago

Fair enough

5

u/Don_Gato1 Florida Gators • Hobart Statesmen 13d ago

I think also the preseason polls overrate SEC teams and we’re all fumbling around the first few weeks trying to figure out if these teams are actually good or not

Like who knows if Ole Miss and LSU are actually good or not, but Florida stomps OM and suddenly we’re crowning them a top 10 team

There shouldn’t be any rankings before week like 6

1

u/poopbuttmcgillicudi1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 13d ago

When did that happen to you guys?
