I think we can all agree those refs were ass

Piggybacking to point out it was Kyle Olson's crew: The same crew that awarded Tennessee an illegal onside kick 2 weeks ago

16

u/kmack312 Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

when they called Olson's name at the beginning, my BP went up

4

u/ToughHardware 6d ago

and how about that 1 second timing call that got overturned

5

u/ABVerageJoe69 6d ago

Wowww. Why in the fuck would they give him this game, or let him keep it, after fucking up multiple rule enforcements in the prior week???

51

u/Eizion Georgia Bulldogs 7d ago

Pretty sure all refs work for draft kings now

It’s like EA College Football’s AI chaos logic has become real life

I mean the picked up flag on that PI should be investigated, full stop. That was egregious.

They literally set the precedent not even 15mins prior and then picked up the flag and ignored it in a way that completely warped the outcome of the game

*edit: maybe they didn't throw the flag? Might have been a broadcast goof. Regardless, it's a ludicrous no-call after they called the exact same shit on Bama not even one quarter earlier

118

u/hobosockmonkey Georgia Bulldogs • Kennesaw State Owls 7d ago

There was never a flag thrown, Herb and the broadcast just assumed there was one

29

u/DrSmartyBritches Mercer Bears • Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

I think we shouldn't allow mouth guards to be the color of flags. Earlier in the game, I mistook a flying yellow mouth guard for a flag.

5

u/EnforcedRug Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

I saw the same one and thought the play was coming back. Looked exactly like a flag until replay

2

u/LunchboxSuperhero Georgia Bulldogs • UCF Knights 6d ago

Vikings players wearing yellow gloves that are the same color as a flag gets me not often than it should.

2

u/bighootay Wisconsin • Minnesota-Duluth 6d ago

Packers' shoes, too

1

u/LunchboxSuperhero Georgia Bulldogs • UCF Knights 6d ago

For whatever reason those don't get me as often. Probably because there's still a lot of yellow in their uniforms so they don't stand out as much and I guess hands look more like flags or something?

103

u/Perfect_Cranberry_37 Minnesota Golden Gophers 7d ago

I keep seeing people say the flag was picked up, was it actually thrown? I thought the broadcast just had a quick trigger finger on the graphic and then cut the camera to the ref like a normal penalty before they realized nothing was thrown

23

u/KirbyDumber88 Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

Yeah it was never thrown. It was also a bad throw anyway. Graphics guy just jumped the gun.

2

u/BillyBobChorton Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

ESPN was dickriding bama so hard they just assumed bama would get all the calls

14

u/the_D1CKENS Alabama • Jacksonville State 6d ago

That wasn't dick riding tho. It was a blatant blown call. He literally ran through the receiver

-13

u/Tazarant Georgia Bulldogs • Mercer Bears 6d ago

The receiver who wasn't in position to catch the ball? You're right.

19

u/GarySe7en Alabama Crimson Tide 6d ago

The ball that hit a player?

u/Always_Chubb-y Georgia Bulldogs • Transfer Portal 6d ago

Bro stop, it was 100% DPI

-8

u/bradye0110 6d ago

Must’ve watched with the tv off

12

u/DrBowe Georgia Bulldogs 7d ago

That's a fair point, maybe it was just a false flag (hah) on the banner flash? Even still, to NOT throw a flag there is criminal.

-21

u/Smitty_Werbnjagr Alabama Crimson Tide 7d ago

It was thrown

6

u/AnsgarShipsHildegard Georgia • Florida State 6d ago

Except... it wasn't

26

u/Falcon84 Georgia Bulldogs • Kennesaw State Owls 7d ago

Did they actually throw the flag or did ESPN just put up the graphic because they assumed it was PI?

7

u/Phantom1100 Alabama Crimson Tide • Team Chaos 7d ago

That PI robbed one of our quarterbacks of a legacy drive, or an overtime thriller.

13

u/DrBowe Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

The game was genuinely such a fucking classic in the making and then they just...killed it. Put the finger on the scale and shoved it down hard. It's impossible to feel good about a win after that

15

u/JahPraises Alabama Crimson Tide 6d ago

You guys played a great game. I’m hurt, because of more than one ref call, but we did just watch the two best teams in the country slug it the fuck out. We will meet again friend. 🤜🤛

5

u/gilias Alabama Crimson Tide 6d ago

This was the first full game I got my wife to watch with me and she was into the game. It was a shame to see it end in such a BS way rather than letting it become the classic game it has been building up to by that point.

You guys fought hard, and the refs BS isn’t on your team. We’ll get another chance to play another classic together in a few months, I’m sure.

1

u/tider21 Alabama Crimson Tide 6d ago

I was at the game and they never threw the flag. It was just so obvious that ESPN thought there HAD to be a flag…

1

u/Narrow-Paramedic4051 LSU Tigers • Tulane Green Wave 6d ago

You're right, it was thrown and they picked it up.

-1

u/Worried-Turn-6831 Alabama Crimson Tide 7d ago

I guess I just don’t understand why you would throw the flag and then pick it up

Why throw it in the first place?

8

u/idnttcrisis Georgia Bulldogs • Texas A&M Aggies 6d ago

They never threw the flag in the first place. The score bug on ESPN flashed a yellow “flag” icon because it was pretty obvious that a PI would be called by the referees.

1

u/Worried-Turn-6831 Alabama Crimson Tide 6d ago

wtf that’s even wilder lmao

1

u/idnttcrisis Georgia Bulldogs • Texas A&M Aggies 6d ago

Yup, should have been called. This season has been making me learn a lot about the difference between the TV cast on-screen and the actual field stuff. Biggest example this season was the Michigan 1 sec discrepancy.

2

u/Worried-Turn-6831 Alabama Crimson Tide 6d ago

Also it’s wild that in the World Cup we could tell if someone’s pinky toe was offsides, but in football we just let an old dude eyeball the spot every time

1

u/idnttcrisis Georgia Bulldogs • Texas A&M Aggies 6d ago

They even have sensors in the ball! Or look at how much tech is involved in modern day cricket or baseball. It’s baffling that we still only rely mostly on human eyes in both the NFL and CFB.

3

u/nerd_with_anxiety 7d ago

its 2026, have you seen how many gambling ads there are everywhere?

someone had an agenda, no doubt lmao

2

u/mostlycharmless9 UAB Blazers • Alabama Crimson Tide 6d ago

Shit like this is exactly why I hate sports betting. Regardless of whether you are correct, the stink of fixed games will always hang over sports with the gambling being as ubiquitous as it is now.

2

u/nerd_with_anxiety 6d ago

oh no doubt. whether or not its real, that cloud will hang over our sports probably for the rest of our lives. dont even get me started on how much gambling in general has exploded and become acceptable in the last couple years. its genuinely disgusting that we let it go this far to me.

-6

u/Jazzlike_Eye_1379 7d ago

It should cover that bogus offsides flag on the blocked punt

3

u/Autolycus25 Georgia Tech • Alabama 6d ago

Move on. If it wasn’t offside, it was a dead ball false start. The block would have been wiped off either way.

1

u/Jazzlike_Eye_1379 6d ago

But the officials DIDN’T call the false start. They allowed the play to happen and then incorrectly called Tyler Simmons offsides, which the head referee later admitted was wrong. So in the actual sequence of events, Georgia made a legitimate blocked punt, and the officials erased it with an incorrect penalty while missing Alabama’s foul. I’m not claiming the rule says the punt should have counted. I’m saying the officials’ actual mistake benefited Alabama and hurt Georgia.

So, like I said, this missed call should cover.

24

u/Ugaalive1991 Georgia Bulldogs • NC State Wolfpack 7d ago

2026 refs are ass all around CFB and NFL.

18

u/BobbysSmile Alabama • Alabama A&M 6d ago

I dont even have the heart to argue about it anymore. It seems like every week theres some refball shenanigans. Just going to go to the LSU post game thread and shittalk until its time for bed.

5

u/AccountantOptimal674 Alabama Crimson Tide 6d ago

They always are man, that’s part of the game in the SEC. When you have two heavy weights playing against each other, you’re also playing against the refs.

I don’t care if you dominate a team, or you lose by 3, the refs are gonna be ass in our conference. That’s just how it is.

As an Alabama fan, I think DeBoer and his coaching staff hasnt accepted that yet. It’s just a fact of the game.

I remember watching the UGA vs AU game last year and just thinking “What in the fuck is going on??” Before I caught myself. I mean a ref got fired from that game. FIRED from that game.

That’s just how it is from the “premier conference in college football”

You have to remove all doubt. Alabama didn’t.

1

u/Mister-Manager South Carolina Gamecocks 6d ago

It sucks how the more marquee the matchup is, the worse the refs are. You can just tell how badly they want to be on TV. They probably like the controversy afterward too because they like being the center of attention.

-13

u/unodostreys Georgia Bulldogs 7d ago

Yes. Bama would say we were favored but the INT was clearly bobbled and hit the ground, plus on Bama’s 1st TD a guard had his arm around our DT’s neck.

7

u/Phantom1100 Alabama Crimson Tide • Team Chaos 7d ago

I actually agree that was not an INT. So you can have that one. Still doesn’t excuse the others.

3

u/Various-Advantage229 Alabama Crimson Tide 7d ago

I've been watching football for 30 years that's the worst no call PI I've seen in a big game besides ram saints. Doesn't really compare to the other nit picky stuff in the game

2

u/ProbablyRickSantorum Hail Saban 7d ago

Ah yeah that completely erases the picked-up flag on PI, the clear targeting on Coleman-Williams, 2x face mask on Crowell, the list goes on.

4

u/EmpoleonNorton Georgia Bulldogs • Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

There was also a late hit on Gunner (that even your defender thought he was going to get flagged for), as well as a play where you got a sack where your player jumped offsides before the ball was snapped.

The game was not well officiated. You were not the only one who got the bad side of calls.

2

u/richierich3414 Alabama Crimson Tide • Team Chaos 6d ago

Your defender also had a late hit on Russell as he was sliding that didn't get called in the first half. Not as bad as ours but still a late hit.

1

u/ThoughtBroad Georgia Bulldogs • Arizona Wildcats 6d ago

He dove over Russell and parts of his body hit him.

1

u/richierich3414 Alabama Crimson Tide • Team Chaos 6d ago

I'll admit I didn't go back and watch i just remember it and in real time it looked like a late hit so that's fair.

3

u/ThoughtBroad Georgia Bulldogs • Arizona Wildcats 6d ago

Yeah I just hate this game went this way. Was just fucking ugly officiating, and those refs should be fined or suspended. The damn ball hit the receivers leg in the end zone and was still a non DPI call….just embarrassing honestly.

3

u/richierich3414 Alabama Crimson Tide • Team Chaos 6d ago

I can agree with you on that 100%. At worst we head to an overtime classic or a dramatic final drive from Georgia, instead we got refs ruining a game.

1

u/ThoughtBroad Georgia Bulldogs • Arizona Wildcats 6d ago

Yep. But I think these two teams play AT least one more time, if not two. I can’t celebrate this win though….not with how it ended

1

u/EmpoleonNorton Georgia Bulldogs • Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

He dove over him. I zipped back to watch it when it happened live, it looked close, but he made a clear concerted effort not to hit him.

Also, what part of "the refs sucked all around" are y'all missing.

3

u/What_A_Ledge 6d ago edited 6d ago

Wasn’t targeting in the slightest
Edit: was wrong. Definitely targeting

2

u/richierich3414 Alabama Crimson Tide • Team Chaos 6d ago

Head to head contact with thr crown of the helmet isn't targeting now?

1

u/What_A_Ledge 6d ago

Guess I’ve missed an angle from the broadcast, seems to be enough talk about it that it probably was targeting. Initially I didn’t see anything and it looked like his head hit the ground. Still can’t find any decent angle online.

My bad. Hopefully he bounces back, never want one of these kids to have a head injury.

1

u/richierich3414 Alabama Crimson Tide • Team Chaos 6d ago

https://x.com/TheUASignGirl/status/2109112189806325807?s=20

In this replay you can see him go limp before he ever hits the ground. It's caused by the hit to the back of his head from Georgia. I'm more upset about this call than the DPI because that's a player safety issue.

2

u/What_A_Ledge 6d ago

Ohhhh wow. Yea. And if I’m not mistaken Herb quickly mentioned they did review this briefly? That’s bad man. There is no point in 1. Having targeting and 2. Making it reviewable if we can’t protect players when it’s obvious like this.

Appreciate the link I couldn’t find a decent angle at all.

Hate the BS of this game. May we get a cleaner round 2 in Atl

2

u/richierich3414 Alabama Crimson Tide • Team Chaos 6d ago

Yea it was a fantastic game, but unfortunately it was ruined by a lot of calls that took points off the board for Bama. If we just straight up lost i wouldn't be as mad but we got screwed several times with no explanation from the refs. I predict it'll be a rematch in the SEC championship and i hope its a fair game for both sides.

1

u/What_A_Ledge 6d ago

It’s looking that way, never know though. Pretty confident in saying we watched 2 of the top 4 teams in football go at it tonight. So at the very least, that feels good to confirm, if you will. The refs sucked. Is what it is.

Here’s to a potential heater of a game in Atl in 2 months. Cheers, have a good night

1

u/ProbablyRickSantorum Hail Saban 5d ago

Respect for revisiting your opinion based on new evidence. The world needs a lot more of that these days. You’re a real one.

-1

u/ProbablyRickSantorum Hail Saban 6d ago

You need your eyes examined.

2

u/What_A_Ledge 6d ago

Saw the angle I needed to see. You’re right. Definitely head to head

0

u/Mornings_kill Alabama Crimson Tide 7d ago

Everything before I’d say it was the Refs letting them play. The head to head contact to RCW could be seen as targeting but it can also be seen as just an unfortunate play. That PI was a full gift to Georgia

6

u/Phantom1100 Alabama Crimson Tide • Team Chaos 6d ago

The facemask was bad. You cannot miss as qb facemask as a ref lol. It’s like the most obvious penalty to call ever.

2

u/unodostreys Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

It was the RB.

-2

u/unodostreys Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

There was no head to head. Our guys banged heads and RCW was unfortunately driven into the ground headfirst by 2 guys on his back.

6

u/Mornings_kill Alabama Crimson Tide 6d ago

You are blind if you think there was no head to head collision. His head whiplashed and THEN smacked into the ground

-4

u/Unlucky_You935 6d ago

Bama is ass too

2

u/DickKickem93 Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

No they ain't

-1
