The 24-team playoff ruined the sport. Can’t even have a one-score OT anymore.

For those of you who didn't catch the first three quarters, I cannot stress how much of a hard left turn things took in the fourth quarter
64
u/NoFalseModesty Nebraska Cornhuskers 3d ago
99.6% win odds with 90 seconds left.....to losing by 13 in OT. That's an incredible faceplant.

u/sunburntredneck Alabama Crimson Tide • Texas Longhorns 3d ago
Can't wait for Ohio State to win Tank Job of the Week after losing a lead in the second quarter and staying behind all game
Okay, maybe it won't be that bad. Maybe it will be Texas losing to Florida by 3 after giving up the lead in the early 3rd.

I watched UAB absolutely dominate because the first play I saw was the 2pt conversion

A 13 point win. Just what we expected through 4 quarters of play. Bowl eligibility is still on the menu boys!
16
u/Dry-Membership3867 Jacksonville State • Arkansas 3d ago
Turns out all you needed to do was fire dilfer and promote the OC who had zero experience as a position coach, mustless OC beforehand with the exception of a brief stint in the AAF.
12
u/Dervoo Furman Paladins • UAB Blazers 3d ago
Just gotta beat Charlotte and Temple. Team still isn’t playing at their ceiling, either. If we can play complete football games like we played in the 2nd half today or the 1st half against Memphis, we’ll finish this year with a winning record.

u/Dropbackandpunt UAB Blazers • The Bones 3d ago
The tenacity of this team is impressive. It feels strange having hope and expectations again.

u/GrimWickett UAB Blazers • Marching Band 3d ago
Don't write off chances to win at USF and UNT either
71
u/Dropbackandpunt UAB Blazers • The Bones 3d ago
Football terrorist Trent Dilfer set us back so far as a program. His teams had zero fight and never played a second half. We have a ways to go to build back up but with that turd gone we again have a team that doesn't give up. Not only that but they found a way to win by two scores in OT. GO BLAZERS!
28
u/Dry-Membership3867 Jacksonville State • Arkansas 3d ago
I think if Mort brings in an OC next year, this team will be at the top of the AAC.
17
u/Dropbackandpunt UAB Blazers • The Bones 3d ago
Grantham has surprisingly been an inspired hire as DC. For sure if we can do the same with an OC then we are definitely competing next year.
7
u/Revolver_Oshawott_ Iron Bowl • Sickos 3d ago
It seems like he's usually good in Year 1 (and sometimes Year 2) then he just forgets how to coach D
3
u/_Feagans UAB Blazers • American 3d ago
Out offense has been so bad it makes me wonder if it’s the players, not having a true OC, or just Dilfer actually calling more plays than we thought. Probably a mix of all. Give UAB an OC and a little more NIL and we can cook
3
u/Dry-Membership3867 Jacksonville State • Arkansas 3d ago
I think it’s the former, I think yall need a few more players and a true OC.

My thought was that this had happened very few times, and I can now say my alma mater has done it.
I wouldn't have guessed it was as few as four, though.
1
u/Gusanito99 USF Bulls 3d ago
What are the other three?
17
u/hedgehog18956 UAB Blazers • Alabama Crimson Tide 3d ago
Kansas did it back in 2022 against WVU, Central Michigan over Eastern Michigan in 1998, and ASU over USC in 1996
7
u/sunburntredneck Alabama Crimson Tide • Texas Longhorns 3d ago
Somehow, Kansas and Eastern Michigan being parties to two of the other three is exactly what I expected
1
u/click__it Marshall Thundering Herd • The Bell 2d ago
Being in South Bend to watch Marshall beat Notre Dame, and then afterwards seeing Kansas run back a pick 6 in Morgantown was a top 3 CFB day for me and it was not #2 or #3

I know Kansas-West Virginia ended that way a few years ago, don’t know what the others are
7
u/ConflictSudden UAB Blazers • Gulf South 3d ago
Arizona state did it vs usc in 1996. I only know this because they also beat defending national champion Nebraska that year 19-0. A game where they scored 3 safeties.

u/Cliffinati NC State • Appalachian State 3d ago
3 WHAT
1
u/FyreWulff Nebraska Cornhuskers 3d ago
Team just completely collapsed. That's also the last time Nebraska has ever been shut out. The previous shutout was at home in 1968. Which leads to the strange fact that the last Nebraska coach to get shut out by another team is Tom Osborne.

One of the things I'm proudest of with this team is that they don't give up. The Dilfer teams seemed like they would give up as soon as they lost the lead.

Td 2 point conversion. Td in overtime, then a pick 6 to end it.

Honest sincere question:
I did not watch this game.
But how can someone win by 2 scores in OT? I thought each team possessed the ball and first score-and-hold wins?
How was UAB able to score multiple times in OT, when ECU never scored in OT?
TIA!!

So ECU QB is UBER garbage but some reason that didn't stop their coaches from trying to have him throw almost the entire second half...
Which is what led the comeback in the first place.. watching a QB over throw a open in route multiple times wasn't enough for them to just say fuck it.. run it.. they had like 90 yards rushing first half and 20 passing . Ended with 120 passing and only 180 rushing.. ahead the entire second half btw..
You tell me their coach wasn't trying to lose?

I’ve learned something interesting these past few weeks: want a game to get interesting? Go to bed while listening to a radio feed on your phone. I think it’s now three times in the past couple weeks between NFL and college where I fall asleep when the game is uninteresting and wake up later to piss and hear “(TEAM) HAS WON IT IN OVERTIME!”

Do you know what's worse than ECU losing from a two-score lead at half, allowing the game tying TD being scored from a 97-yard drive in less than 1:30 left in regulation, only to lose in OT? The fact that this game ended past 11pm on the east coast and I have to be up at 5am to go on a run. Maybe I'll just stay awake, angry all night...
