Also the narrative that universities, that can't even afford to pay full time teaching staff and are continually raising tuition, are somehow making money hand over fist off college athletes.

This is such bad faith rewriting of history

First off the idea that universities were not making bank off of college athlete before the current era is absurd on its face.  Are a few sports paying for most of the other sports?  Sure but that don’t mean they aren’t profitable and any university that can’t afford to pay their professors back then but especially now is a poorly run school that either has shitty attendance or some other issues cause no universities with the revenues they bring in should be struggling to pay their professors especially back then

However the people back then that wanted change were never wanting Athelstan to be paid like professional athletes that got twisted after court rulings and what not and NIL.  The idea at the time behind the push was for college athletes to get paid enough to live off of and that would be fair and that larger universities and larger sports would subsidize the smaller ones.  Then in situations like video games where a image was being licensed they could sign a deal and a trust would be set up that they would be able to cash in when they graduated

There is no way we can go back to the way it was before but if we want to fix NIL that’s the way it should be done

It is however, their fault for hiring 19 vice deans of diversity and other useless bureaucratic bloat, which is the only reason they’re “unable“ to afford things
