I’m just going to watch the NFL. This is not worth it anymore. College sports cannibalized itself due to greed.

Join me. It's nice. The game times make sense and they end in a timely fashion. And because of contracts I know roughly what my roster is going to look like in the future.

I’ve been the biggest “CFB > NFL” homer in my friend group.

The passion, the electricity in the stadiums, the suspense of every game being do-or-die, true rivalries that just meant more. You just couldn’t get that level of intensity in NFL.

All of it has slowly been whittled away. If not outright killed, then at least diminished.

u/Upset-Dingo-6879 15h ago

Yeah, now you get great regional in-conference rivalries like Rutgers - UCLA.

u/TimeLordDoctor105 Cincinnati • Ohio State 12h ago

There are definitely true rivalries in the NFL (see either North division, they hate their division rivals). But you are right, CFB rivalries always felt better (I'm definitely not sad that we have lost our 3 biggest rivalry games over the last 15 years /s).

Right now college football just turned itself into a worse version of the NFL

10

u/RiverFrogs Louisville Cardinals 20h ago

Yeah I’ll still probably watch the bigger Louisville games but there’s no way I’m watching half the season and all of the playoff games. Probably save my money for basketball and baseball. Please god don’t expand March madness any further

Since college football is officially a professional sport, I would be thrilled if the NFL decided to pulverize it and start playing games on Saturdays every week.

But we wouldn’t get the weekly hype tweets on ratings from the ESPN PR account anymore 🤣

Against federal law actually lol

Edit~ Yeah, I was wrong. And I have no idea what I mixed up to get to that point.

It is a law from the bill that gave them their antitrust exemptions in 1961. And they have taken pretty much every possible day that isn't forbidden in it including competing with the CFP cause the restrictions only go through mid December. They would immediately start scheduling games every friday and saturday if it got repealed.

Dude (read as the most offensive slur applies most directly to you) how are you so confidently wrong about this in this sub?

It wouldn’t though.

u/Individual_Holiday_9 19h ago

Honestly the nfl is a much better product at this point

7

u/HankChinaski- Colorado Buffaloes 18h ago

It always has been. (Unless you are going to games in person, which college wins by a mile)

u/muttonchops215 Ohio State Buckeyes • Iowa Hawkeyes 17h ago

Nope. It used to be the NFL affected college in regards to innovations on offense and defense. It's the reverse now. College has also had that unique charm to it as well (bands, student sections, alumni).

u/IDontTortureChickens Notre Dame • Ball State 19h ago

I'm watching my teams, but I don't know why I'd ever watch a college football game before November otherwise. I barely do even now. That's as much because of having kids and whatnot as anything, but I will be missing nothing by ignoring the regular season going forward.

3

u/RontoWraps Kansas Jayhawks 18h ago

Well Notre Dame regular season ain’t much to speak of anyway lol (I actually like ND but let’s be real lol)

1

u/IDontTortureChickens Notre Dame • Ball State 18h ago

Can't deny that. I'm crossing my fingers that the talk that some top teams will be more willing to play us under the new system is not just bluster that will be discarded now that they got this dumb playoff in place, but we'll see.

This sub was cheering and clapping for playoffs and NIL

Well, contrats

Leopards ate your face

1

u/Armagetz LSU Tigers 10h ago

This was exactly what the anti playoff folks said would happen. Once the door opened it was gonna get momentum the second they could see how much money they could squeeze.

Sometimes I feel “slippery slope” shouldn’t inherently be regarded as fallacy.

2

u/muttonchops215 Ohio State Buckeyes • Iowa Hawkeyes 17h ago

This sub was cheering and clapping for NIL. Fixed it for you.

4

u/SantosCalzonesBatman 16h ago

Lol. Lmao, even.

People here were still cheering at the prospect of 16 teams playoffs

1

u/Illustrious-Share312 8h ago

My whole life we wanted playoffs but I don't think we realized that it would cost us most of the traditions and spirit that made CFB great.

1

u/SantosCalzonesBatman 5h ago

I dont want to be am ass but how in the lord's name did you guys not realize that?

1

u/Illustrious-Share312 5h ago

Well they introduced the playoff when I was like 19 years old. The BCS system was stupid as hell and 19 year olds are stupid as hell.

2

u/dajadf Northern Illinois Huskies 18h ago

People don't want to admit it.  But P4 is no longer the same game as non P4.  Makes no sense to keep grouping them together

7

u/Calithrand Oregon State Beavers • Platypus Trophy 18h ago

Counter offer: we abolish the portal, and make NIL deals multiyear contracts with liquidated damages clauses running both ways.

1

u/Turbulent_End_6887 9h ago

Who would have ever thought that the NFL would look like the Boy Scouts compared to CFB??

1

u/hereforfootball303 Penn State Nittany Lions 5h ago

I thank Pat Kraft for blowing up my team so I can really commit to not giving a shit. I already started when the recruiting I had followed for years got torn apart and I realized I barely know anyone on the team.

-2

u/autobotCA Kansas Jayhawks 20h ago

No need for the NFL, It’s basketball season now.

0

u/originalusername4567 Kansas Jayhawks 19h ago

I've already been there as a Chiefs and KU fan. I'm still continue to show up to KU home games because it's still a lot of fun to be there. But I'll probably stop watching the away games over the next few years.

2

u/RontoWraps Kansas Jayhawks 19h ago

KU dumpster fire aside, it was still cool to watch around CFB cause I genuinely did like watching the games for the regional & in season rivalry. The whole product just kind of stinks now. It’s just a worse version of football. Rather just tune in on Sunday to see the best.

2

u/Excellent_Hedgehog62 UCLA Bruins • Rose Bowl 18h ago

Add to the fact that they quite literally killed off our entire region of the country, which used to be an unbreakable stronghold for this sport. I’m already tired of watching my Bruins play Maryland and Michigan State. I just don’t care for these schools. Even if we make a 24 team playoff next year, it’ll feel so processed. Sure we might fill up the Rose Bowl if we host a first round game. But it’ll be like eating McDonald’s where you feel like shit immediately after, or in this case, when we get blown out by Ohio State or something in the second round. Just to have to enjoy what’s left of the sport at this point.

-1

u/AdBoring5565 14h ago

Stfu, if you dont wanna watch then just stop. Fuckin Reddit ass comment "I'll probably stop soon" fuck off

1

u/originalusername4567 Kansas Jayhawks 9h ago

If I show up to watch KU home games I'm probably still gonna comment on those. But maybe with more comments like yours I will move onto a less toxic platform

1

u/AdBoring5565 7h ago

Quit being a baby. "Maybe I'll leave then" ...go? You won't

1

u/originalusername4567 Kansas Jayhawks 6h ago

Why do you care so much?

1

u/AdBoring5565 57m ago

Why do you?

This is what killed cfb for you? Yall haven’t won a conference championship since Nixon was president. Maybe Yall can actually make the post season now lol

7

u/RontoWraps Kansas Jayhawks 19h ago

Uh no, I still liked watching SEC & Big Ten football; I’m not just a homer. If I just cared about Kansas, I wouldn’t really be into CFB at all lol. Use your big ol Bama brain.

-4

u/AlphaBravo95 Alabama • North Alabama 19h ago

I am using my brain. Cfb will be fine and you’ll be back for more. Yall are just being dramatic 😂

4

u/RontoWraps Kansas Jayhawks 19h ago

Maybe it’s me hitting my mid 30s, but it’s just not as good of a product as it was 10, 15 years ago and that affects where I spend my time. Rosters change way too much and we’re seeing things like conference championship games go away. The NFL is flat out better football. I’m not saying that CFB is dead, I’m saying the NFL is a better professional league. Better football, more stability.

1

u/AlphaBravo95 Alabama • North Alabama 18h ago

I agree with the roster issue 100%. We gotta figure out a way for the kids to get paid and also make a commitment to where they are playing. But I’m also in my mid 30s and be honest with yourself, if you could go back and time to the bcs days, old you would be psyched for a playoff. I get nostalgic over it too sometimes but we gotta be real here

5

u/Calithrand Oregon State Beavers • Platypus Trophy 18h ago

Nope.

As a fan of a school that had zero chance of ever winning a national championship based on final AP (or Coaches!) ranking, had zero chance of winning a national championship in the BCS, and have zero chance of winning a national championship in the CFP... the BCS era at least let us play for a shot at the Rose Bowl. Most of the time.

Now, the best we can hope for is the Alamo Bowl.

1

u/AlphaBravo95 Alabama • North Alabama 17h ago

The rose bowl is still around. You can still win it

2

u/Calithrand Oregon State Beavers • Platypus Trophy 17h ago

Sure, we could play at UCLA. But the Rose Bowl is not still around. There is a postseason game played in the stadium known as the Rose Bowl, but it's the the Rose Bowl. That is dead and buried.

-1

u/AlphaBravo95 Alabama • North Alabama 17h ago

Despite my attempts at blocking it out, I know we played in the rose bowl last season hahaha last Oregon state made it to the rose bowl was 1965. It’s not like they were “letting” you in often. Beat Houston and Texas tech and Boise state and you’d be in the playoffs but yall lost to tech and Houston so you failed when given the chance to prove it on the field.

The worst part of college football is asshole large school fans thinking winning titles is the only thing worth caring about. The general population having your corrupt mindset is what’s ruined this sport

-6

u/Krabs9 18h ago edited 18h ago

Lmao it's funny this will make me start watching college football. This product is so much better than what it was 20 years ago. Still not very good compared to the NFL though
