News [Matt Hayes] The SEC willingly flushed its conference championship game that last year had better ratings than all eight first round CFP games of the brief, 12-team era.

They paid 205M for those 12 extra games. I’m not sure that the conferences didn’t get fleeced in this round of expansion.

I’m not sure ESPN didn’t get fleeced

Don’t worry, it’s us fans who will ultimately be fleeced.

They didn't. They will sub-license several of those games to other networks and make back more than the "new money" they just agreed to add to the CFP.

I’m not sure. If they sub license it out there’s a reason

That figure is net new after considering what they would’ve sent conferences for the championship anyway. So from the $345m figure, the SEC, Big10 and others will still get their share of the pie for a game that now doesn’t need to take place.

The 205 net new will then be split (proportionally) to almost only power four conferences with the majority of teams coming from SEC and Big10 (again). If we were to take the rankings today, it would add 5 SEC teams of the 12 additional slots.

Then you get revenue from on-campus games, CFP pays schools for making it and advancing. I think the SEC and Big10 did well again.
