News [Matt Hayes] The SEC willingly flushed its conference championship game that last year had better ratings than all eight first round CFP games of the brief, 12-team era.

Shit, for some of us, winning the conference is the biggest thing in football we can reasonably hope to acheive, now that ESPN has murdered the NY6 bowls.

And no, "making the playoffs" is not the same thing. Nobody hangs a banner to declare that they lost in the playoffs.

Exactly my point. Especially with 24 teams in the playoffs. No one in the B1G or SEC should be happy that they made the playoffs.

Making the playoffs itself is definitely not a banner hanger. I can imagine that maybe people will celebrate how far they made it in the playoffs though, similarly to how CBB fans measure success by the tournament run.

That said, “made it to the group of 16 in the playoffs” is a whole lot less fun than “won the PAC 12”

Basketball teams hang bangers for making the tournament and making it to different levels.

Why shouldn't that be celebrated?

Schools hang banners for Sweet 16, Elite 8, and Final 4 all of the time.
