I feel bad for Marsh. Indiana fans saying Ohio State got lucky. If he stays in bounds Ohio State fans say Indiana got lucky.

It's a bad take either way. Both teams deserved to lose. Horrible execution and countless mistakes.

Officiating was horrific both ways as well.

We made too many mistakes to expect a win. Hoover missed his receivers all day.

Also, that RTP would have been a BS way for OSU to lose.

We could say the same thing about Sayin.  It was honestly terrible QB play for most of the game and it would have been awesome to see how it would go if both looked consistently competent.

41

u/boog2352 2h ago

I think both QBs were overthinking, too hyped, whatever, to start the game. I think they both calmed down, found the game, and the coaches made adjustments. Then, both got hurt. Sucks, still a great game.

u/pardonmyignerance Ohio State • South Carolina 2h ago

I felt like I was watching Thursday Night football for two thirds of the game.

6

u/FrequentTurn9637 Ohio State Buckeyes 1h ago

100%, sayin is the same Donarld. Keep giving the ball away and cannot read defense, taking bad sacks after bad sacks after bad sacks

3

u/Bersho Ohio State Buckeyes • Dayton Flyers 52m ago

Honestly made me nostalgic for old school big ten football… terrible qb play, good defense, and abhorrent officiating lol

11

u/InnocuousAssClown Illinois Fighting Illini 1h ago

It looked like grounding on that play too, unless I missed something? Broadcast didn’t even mention it.

3

u/ABVerageJoe69 1h ago

Without looking back, from memory, the white hat was busy throwing the hold and it looked like the QB was to the right of the ref aka outside of the tackle box, no intentional grounding.

I could be wrong though, I don't have the play in front of me.

1

u/InnocuousAssClown Illinois Fighting Illini 1h ago

I really thought he was in the tackle box, but yeah it’s totally possible he rolled out of it. The broadcast showing why it wasn’t called would’ve been nice.

3

u/JuiceDiesel 1h ago

Yeah. If Indiana makes one of those missed field goals. This game is a different story

2

u/Technical_Part8423 Ohio State Buckeyes 38m ago

Ohio State dropped one INT and the other hit the safety directly in the face lol. There's tons of "what ifs" every big game.

3

u/bluesshark 2h ago

I'm completely neutral and was screaming "come on bro" at the overthrows, embarrassing

3

u/EnderTheTrender Oklahoma Sooners 2h ago

Don’t watch OU you’ll have an aneurysm

102

u/ixMyth Oregon Ducks • Cascade Clash 2h ago

B1G refs continue to show everyone they're incompetent

17

u/HeyBim007 2h ago

During one of the replay reviews, the ref was acting like he didn’t know the rules and memorized what the reply dude told him to say. Strange shit

7

u/fuzz11 UCLA Bruins • Auburn Tigers 2h ago

If this was the Chris Henry catch he just wanted to make sure he was saying the right thing. Not too odd to acknowledge the guy in the replay center has a way better view than you

1

u/-spartacus- Iowa Hawkeyes 2h ago

I feel the same way, he wanted to talk to them to practice what he was saying, not that he didn't know the rules. That said the former Pac12 refs that did WM vs UM earlier this year was bad last year and again bad this year.

3

u/Kilen13 Miami Hurricanes • Edinburgh Predators 1h ago

Honest question, is there a conference where we agree their refs are at least consistently decent?

2

u/Montigue Oregon Ducks • Stony Brook Seawolves 2h ago

We don't deserve it, but UCLA v Oregon should have gone into OT

46

u/pillowcheeks3 Indiana Hoosiers 2h ago

I’m just happy to have consistently competitive games against you guys now

6

u/ShabooyaBop Ohio State Buckeyes 1h ago

Real Buckeye fans know Indiana has been a thorn in our side for a while. Always a tough game when yall are on the schedule.

5

u/FirmWillingness5003 Ohio State Buckeyes 1h ago

True. Always was a wrestle until mid second half. Never felt good about playing IU.

66

u/Shot_Macaron_9158 2h ago

This is a good take. Both teams made mistakes and had questionable calls go their way, seems like the better team edged out the win at the end of day

56

u/OwnWalrus1752 Indiana Hoosiers 2h ago

OSU’s defense is filthy. Indiana’s defense is filthy. Hoover probably isn’t the guy. Sayin has trouble under pressure but he’s definitely improved over last season. OSU can win even if Smith is taken out of the game for the most part (but he’ll still get his). OSU is going to be in bad shape if Sayin is out for any length of time.

43

u/Technical_Part8423 Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

Ive seen Sayin play scared before but I have no idea what this was today. Even when he had a clean pocket, he missed receivers by 20 feet.

17

u/BikingEngineer Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

He spent the whole game last week getting blasted from his blind side, so that definitely affected his confidence today. It didn’t help that he was constantly pressured right in front of his face.

9

u/Oligonucleotide123 Ohio State Buckeyes 1h ago

What was weird is that he was so efficient on the opening drive and looked locked in. Once he took the first hit it started coming apart

1

u/BucksBrew Ohio State Buckeyes 0m ago

I don’t think he plays scared, he’s just not accurate. He underthrows and overthrows.

6

u/PossessionConnect963 Ohio State • Michigan State 2h ago

I agree people are saying it was a bad game and if you only care about offense it was but both defenses played well.

7

u/JEWISHPIGFARMER Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

I disagree with Sayin improved. He's more willing to use his legs, but his ball placement has definitely gotten worse, and that used to be his trump card.

1

u/Oligonucleotide123 Ohio State Buckeyes 1h ago

IMO he's regressed a bit since last year. Pocket presence hasn't really improved and his accuracy is down a bit. I still like him as our QB but he wouldn't be my top pick

1

u/81jmfk Ohio State Buckeyes 1h ago

Day said Sayin is out for several weeks.

1

u/scots /r/CFB 1h ago

There are two 5 stars waiting on the depth chart

1

u/Shot_Macaron_9158 2h ago

Agree on most of what you said, but I wouldn’t be too harsh on Hoover. Missed a lot of throws, but he’d be looked at as a hero if Marsh got a foot down. Ultimately IU looks like a legit playoff team though, hopefully the ap voters don’t punish them too hard in the polls tomorrow

2

u/OwnWalrus1752 Indiana Hoosiers 2h ago

I’ve liked Hoover but he sails the ball way too often. I can’t put a lot on Marsh because Hoover could’ve put us up a few times and just missed or underthrew and kept the receiver from beating their guy. He needs to show that he has the juice to play a complete game against at least a good defense.

1

u/Shot_Macaron_9158 1h ago

True, and I don’t mean to be too high on Hoover either. He’s fixed his interception issue but now has an accuracy one. But I think he has proven to be good enough to keep IU a contender for the playoffs

0

u/OwnWalrus1752 Indiana Hoosiers 1h ago

He reminds me a bit of 2025 Caleb Williams. Doesn’t turn the ball over, but he also misses on some easier throws.

2

u/fulltimehustlin Ohio State Buckeyes 1h ago

I fully expect IU to get credit and OSU to get punished based on how it ended.

3

u/Shot_Macaron_9158 1h ago

Idk with the blatant sec bias, could end up seeing both get punished

1

u/Agile_Natural8251 1h ago

Yep. That's for sure.

-3

u/Defiant-Recording-28 1h ago

IU was statistically the "better team" on both sides and missed 2 FGs and a wide open TD? How could you say the better team won?

1

u/Shot_Macaron_9158 1h ago

You can cherry pick certain stats but IU also fumbled twice and gave up a terrible long td pass on 4th and 2. This is college football, shit happens but it evens out over the course of the game usually

53

u/FrostTroll69 Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

Refs were awful. Worse than Michigan/western Michigan

22

u/PJA0307 Ohio State Buckeyes • Capital Comets 2h ago

The head umpire almost seemed like this was his first game reffing. Hearing him ask about the rules during replays was alarming.

2

u/cormack16 Ohio State Buckeyes • Georgia Bulldogs 1h ago

Hes been around for a while but always seems very timid when announcing anything.

75

u/takequake76 Michigan Wolverines 2h ago

Even if Marsh stays inbounds, there seemed to be a clear hold by the IU left guard

That roughing the passer was also ridiculous

45

u/FrostTroll69 Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

Yeah. But no flag came out

40

u/TheWrathofKrieger Ohio State • Michigan State 2h ago

I was going to lose my mind if Marsh got a foot inbounds because the hold was so egregiously obvious.

12

u/tosubks Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

We got 1 holding call in our favor today and that was already too many. Not just gonna get another one for free like that…

4

u/BuckeyeEmpire Ohio State • Penn State 1h ago

Might be the only one for the rest of the season

2

u/Sam_Strake Texas A&M Aggies 1h ago

Which is true for just about every highlight in college football history too

1

u/00trysomethingnu Tennessee Volunteers 1h ago

Why was it ridiculous?

3

u/Technical_Part8423 Ohio State Buckeyes 37m ago

Because it wasn't roughing the passer.

2

u/BuckeyeEmpire Ohio State • Penn State 1h ago

Because it wasn't late at all. And if it was there were 10 hits with the same timing against Sayin

1

u/00trysomethingnu Tennessee Volunteers 54m ago

Agree to disagree on being late.
Agree on what Sayin received.

-17

u/NoNameHoosier 2h ago

Crown of helmet into the chin of the QB. The RTP was pretty obvious

2

u/Technical_Part8423 Ohio State Buckeyes 37m ago

Except it didn't.....

2

u/Dull-Equipment-5954 Ohio State Buckeyes 38m ago

Was not the crown and Hoover ducked into the hit already in progress. Was the side of helmet/shoulder into chest.

2

u/ExtremeWorkinMan Nebraska Cornhuskers 42m ago

I'm going to guess based on the fact nobody has said anything that it's not the same crew, but man it was SHOCKING to complain about the officiating for the Maryland at Nebraska game just to discover it was the same crew as Michigan/Western Michigan

2

u/FrostTroll69 Ohio State Buckeyes 41m ago

The same for both of them?!? That crew sucks, probably the same

-16

u/Background-Economy85 2h ago

Ohio state fans think the refs are awful after every damn game lol

5

u/Technical_Part8423 Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

Every single fan base in the history of sports does.....

-8

u/Background-Economy85 2h ago

It’s mainly you guys. You guys are soft as hell.

7

u/Technical_Part8423 Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

Okay virgin

3

u/Dr_Nebbiolo Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

Well, it’s a pretty good take most the time for… checks notes… any college football game

10

u/FrostTroll69 Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

Seriously, they were tackling our WRs, holding like crazy (even the last play our LB was held like crazy), and sayin should have had 3 RTPs.

5

u/Critical-Raspberry19 Colorado Buffaloes • Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

-9

u/Background-Economy85 2h ago

No, Florida gators. We own you bub

4

u/LilFiz99 Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

Hoover overthrew him. I don't feel bad for Marsh. Don't feel bad for Hoover. Feel a little bad for Amare Ferrell. Getting two turnovers just for your QB to have his worst game of the season while you're on the defense allowing just 12.29 points a game. That is who should be upset.

3

u/lil_layne Indiana Hoosiers 2h ago edited 2h ago

I mean it was a classic defensive B1G game with shitty refs. Also I love hearing these booth review inside conversations because it really shows how clueless even the umpire is about the rules.

3

u/jackedbutter Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

This game was straight ass my dude

5

u/Ben_Flame_ Indiana Hoosiers • Paper Bag 2h ago

I personally can’t blame marsh here. I don’t think any luck either. Both defenses looked good to great most of the game and both offenses looked fairly shit.

The officiating was again just horrific I don’t understand the point of rules if they’re consistently ignored across the board.

2

u/BigThistyBeast Indiana Hoosiers 2h ago

I’m just grateful we’re still good enough to not be getting blown out

2

u/Aragorns-Broken-Toe Indiana Hoosiers 2h ago

I feel bad for Becker too, takes alot of shine away from a monster day.

Better team won, nothing else to say

0

u/-spartacus- Iowa Hawkeyes 2h ago

Both teams deserved to lose.

I don't agree with this at all, both teams played hard, made mistakes, forced mistakes, and it came down to a single play. Exactly what you would expect of two good teams duking it out.

I'm tired of CFB turning every game into some sort of disaster when it's close and more of a disaster when it isn't.

1

u/Technical_Part8423 Ohio State Buckeyes 35m ago

Playing hard and not executing aren't the same.

1

u/PeedOnMyGODDAMNFoot Michigan State • Georgia Tech 2h ago

ehh I dont feel too bad for him. he could have had it worse!

1

u/Stairway_toEvan Indiana • Washington State 2h ago

Both QBs were putrid most of the game with the occasional good throw. Both teams lefts a lot of points on the board.

I feel bad for Sayin. Hopefully it's not as serious as it seemed but I have a bad feeling he's done for the season.

1

u/UltraaVincent 1h ago

It’s not a bad take. We got lucky he couldn’t get his feet down. We wouldn’t have been able to drive the field (see Texas 2026) to set up a FG (see Indiana 2025, UGA ‘22, UM ‘24) with a backup QB.

1

u/00trysomethingnu Tennessee Volunteers 1h ago

I’m not really seeing IU fans saying Ohio got lucky.

2

u/Agile_Natural8251 56m ago

Well, in a way they did. They got lucky Marsh didn't get his feet down, but I'll be, maybe not the first IU fan, to say that it wasn't luck on Ohio State's part that they put us in a position to need that last minute catch.

1

u/Kinmar 1h ago

If officiating was horrible both ways does that make it good officiating?

1

u/BucksBrew Ohio State Buckeyes 1m ago

That roughing the passer call holy shit.

0

u/TheMcWhopper Notre Dame Fighting Irish 2h ago

Ohio state did get lucky. Marshall wasn't in coverage and just straight up blew it. Bad awareness, he handed them the win on a platter

2

u/Old_Pomegranate_2589 58m ago

Ohio State is always getting lucky. That’s why they haven’t lost to Notre Dame in 90 years. It’s the fairy dust.

0

u/CaptainHolt43 Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

Nobody would say Indiana got lucky if he makes that catch. That's just silly

1

u/Agile_Natural8251 59m ago

Exactly! It would have been (and almost was) a gutsy comeback. Looking at all these comments someone summed it up accurately: both teams (on offense and defense) made mistakes and made some big plays. Both quarterbacks made some lousy throws and some great ones. And both teams got some good/lucky officiating calls and both got some bad calls and no calls. It was a hard fought, not pretty defensive battle. Both teams need to improve, mostly on the offensive side of the ball.
