What a sloppy game all around. But neither team was sloppier than the refs. My god that was shit.

I've been a referee for a long time and understand how tough it is to call a game.

This was one of the worst officiated games I've ever watched lol

Why does it seem like we keep saying that every week? The state of college football reffing is abysmal right now

Tbf it seems like all officiating across all levels of all sports has shifty officiating rn

Honestly NFL hasn’t been that bad this year. There’s a few high penalty games. But nothing anywhere close to daily college calls.

The NFL has had the most flags in years. It’s actively destroying games.

Everything is more rigged than it has ever been, in large part because embracing gambling provides the avenue/cover for it to be more profitable to do so than ever before

NFL rigging it for the Chiefs in the Swift era is an example outside of that framework where the motivation is obvious

FIFA rigging it for Argentina in the Messi era is another one like that where it was about viewership, and the 30 percent of ticket resales FIFA now gets

Everything is increasingly corrupt as the oligarchy consolidates their control and returns us to feudalism

It was also concerning how the head ref during reviews was legitimately asking basic procedural questions. That is not a good look that a ref is needing to ask for help in understanding how the game works.

About 8 uncalled DPIs and holds everywhere

Your first drive, might’ve been the first pass, where they didn’t call a pretty clear PI on a pass to Becker I just knew what kind of game we were getting out of the refs. At least it was mutually infuriating I guess lol. Good luck the rest of the way, hope Hoover’s shoulder isn’t hurt too bad

Same for Sayin. Hope he's well and playing next week.

Good news is we have a bye next week. It either gives us time for Sayin to get healthy or it gives us time to prep the back up.

Well shit, just heard he's out several weeks. Hopefully your backup gets up to speed.

5

u/bringbacksweatervest Ohio State Buckeyes 1h ago

Yeah I didn’t have a ton of hope for him. Those hits on the QB’s arm mid throw never end well.

Seemed something might have been broken tbh. Hope not, but Day said he's out for several weeks.

Thanks. Same with Sayer. Hard fought, good defensive game. Offense (both teams), officiating, and IU 's kicking game all left a lot to be desired. Two good teams that have some things to clean up.

Big 10 refs just straight up don't call holding. Except the occasional time where they do, as a treat. But it's rare

u/randomguy84321 Ohio State • Ohio Northern 1h ago

They pretty much only call penalties at the end of the game. Whether the game is on the line, or its just garbage time

3

u/Cynoid Ohio State Buckeyes • Texas A&M Aggies 1h ago

OSU has had the least penalties called in their favor(on average per game across all of cfb)for 3 years straight. Our opponents also tend to get less than usual as it makes refs look worse to call nothing in OSUs favor if they still make calls against us.

Honestly, after these 2.5 years of watching Jeremiah Smith, I think he just has this affect on the game on both sides of the ball. He is very physical while also requiring some kind of DPI or holding to stop him. You can probably call OPI, DPI, or holding on most of his targets. But you have to call it both ways and the officials just let it play on both sides of the ball.

Guy hasn't had a DPI called by the DB guarding him in 12 games or something like that. It is insane.

Including the missed hold that should've nullified the TD pass if he'd been inbounds

5

u/Formal-Telephone5146 1h ago

That’s why i thought the TD was no Good but they didn’t even call it I rewinded my TV a few times like dam if marsh had caught that for a touchdown but that oblivious holding wasn’t called I’d be pissed

Idk, besides the fumbles I don't think IU looked that sloppy. And IU seems to me like they have more realistic upward potential within the season, we have issues I don't think we can fix this year.

And yeah, the officiating was the worst I've seen in a long time, though not the most lopsided. If I'm being honest with myself, it probably favored us a bit more than IU, but there were plenty of calls that either or both teams should be furious about

4

u/Aslad24 Indiana Hoosiers 2h ago

I think you guys still have a good chance. That O-line will need better pass protection but run protection was decent at points.

I’m not too worried about either of our teams, Hoover sailed some passes but can see both teams still making a run.

5

u/Marvin-face Indiana Hoosiers 2h ago

They were consistent in not calling DPI. It was a great game to be a DB.

3

u/jeff_barr_fanclub Ohio State • Washington 1h ago

Did they call PI even once? I can't remember lol

3

u/Marvin-face Indiana Hoosiers 1h ago

I'm pretty sure they didn't

2

u/jeff_barr_fanclub Ohio State • Washington 1h ago

I wanted to say that but I wasn't confident, I kinda thought maybe we had one go our way while I was raging and/or drinking so I didn't risk the embarrassment

2

u/cavsking21 Purdue Boilermakers 1h ago

Not the starting OSU DBs, but that was because Becker and Marsh were frying them alive. Better QB play and those guys combine for 300

2

u/jeff_barr_fanclub Ohio State • Washington 1h ago

Yeah we allowed way too many totally uncontested passes

5

u/cavsking21 Purdue Boilermakers 2h ago

IU's defense is nowhere near as good as last season's and Hoover is super inconsistent. I think in a game where OSU played so badly and IU still needed the refs to bail them out that final drive, it's hard to say IU is really contending

I enjoyed the one play where the pass looked like it was aimed right at the ref's head, The Longest Yard style.

1

u/ech01_ Ohio State Buckeyes 1h ago

This game was horrible bull shit. But I’m glad to be on the winning side of horrible bull shit.

Time to call on Sherrif Boz

u/Umutuku 2h ago

How sloppy would you say, on a scale from 0 to AI?
