Debate Am I the only one who thinks Oregon and Dante Moore are overrated?

They’re projected to be top 3 this season, and Dante Moore is seen as a top 3 quarterback going in. Idk I don’t see it, even this past season they really didn’t have many impressive games. They beat Penn State who absolutely collapsed, then didn’t really win anything impressive.

Their playoff performance before Indiana was pretty bad, and then they got destroyed horribly by Indiana. What’s the hype about this team? They look like 2025 Penn State.

I mean, that's kind of a silly argument, considering they were only 1 of 5 teams that played Indiana close last year. They also beat Iowa off an insane throw by Dante Moore, trounced USC, and blanked TTech while putting up 23 against one of the best D's football. That's way better then what 2024 Penn State could say, as their only quality wins were Illinois, SMU, and pending your opinion on Boise. Not to mention having fraudulent wins against some pretty bad teams like Bowling Green, Minnesota, and 2024 USC.

I just don't see how you can think they will be 2025 Penn State. Unless he gets injured, or has an insane fall off, Dante Moore will absolutely be a top 5 QB next year, and considering they have a middle of the road schedule, there's a real possibility that he might end up in the Heisman conversation.

I don’t know if they looked pretty bad, but I felt like throughout the season they were getting a ton of credit for a pretty meh schedule

They underperformed against JamU and Texas Tech, even Lanning said it.

14

u/Duck_Stereo Oregon Ducks Apr 05 '26

Underperformed for how good they are, not objectively. The JamU game was a blowout at halftime and the Texas Tech was a playoff shutout. Neither of those are “pretty bad” imho

u/Stock-Memory9483 Florida Gators Apr 05 '26

For their roster and recruiting strength the JMU game should not of been that close

10

u/Electrical_Pop_2828 Apr 05 '26

It wasn't close. We it down sometime in the 3rd quarter and yeah our backups played like ass.

8

u/Opulent-tortoise Apr 05 '26

Close? They demolished JMU. They scored on like every possession. Yeah you could argue their defense should have performed better but JMU never made a dent in the scoreline the game was never remotely in question. And they embarrassed a Texas Tech team that plenty of analysts had predicted to upset them

2

u/Even_Mastodon_8675 Apr 05 '26

And the game was indeed, not that close

2

u/MontyAllTheTime Ohio State Buckeyes Apr 05 '26

well the fact that you are looking at the Oregon v. JMU game and calling it ‘close’ tells me that when it comes to analyzing and understanding the sport, your competency level is not at the level required to understand what makes Oregon and Dante Moore good or bad.

u/Massive-Blood7796 Apr 05 '26

This has to be bait, neither JMU nor Tech were ever in those games for a second

6

u/Efficient-Tip-2081 Apr 05 '26

They beat Texas tech by 4 possessions I think, right? They were easily top 5 or so. That’s not overrated in my book.

This guy made pretty much this same post a couple weeks ago.

He prefaced it by saying he didn’t watch the games lmao.

Lmao he’s going crazy in the OSU game thread rn. Good call by the haters 😭

That’s how I move Brochacho 😎

It’s also worth noting that they were incredibly injured at receiver for a huge chunk of the year so teams could key on Sadiq easier in the passing game and it showed in their approach. They honestly got pretty conservative and leaned on defense a lot last year. Obviously a huge “if” but if the receivers stay healthy they should be way more dynamic this year. And they only have to split carries 2 ways next year with the 2 RBs who were their best last year.

Defensively they return a ton. Like all 4 starters on the line would have been drafted by the end of day 2 this year and all came back. Their secondary was very good and is almost all back. They return one of their top 2 ILBs in Mixon who honestly played better than Boetcher most of the year.

I don’t know if they’re in the top tier with Ohio State next year but they’re at worst a tier 2 team. Anywhere from ranked 3 through 6 seems fair.

Oregon was down to what RB5 for the Indiana game? It was insane how many injuries that team had at skill positions. I think this year they are a different and more explosive team for sure

5

u/Ayonanomous Apr 05 '26

Well they have a QB returning that lead em to the cfb & have a good backup. WR Room is top tier. Idk team may be really good

2

u/nightowl1135 Oregon Ducks Apr 05 '26

Throw in return most of an already good D and a manageable schedule.

1

u/Ayonanomous Apr 06 '26

Yeah the DL came back & all were draft picks so idk why folks ignoring that. But hey we will see

3

u/evantom34 Apr 05 '26

Oregon is a great team. Dante has flashed some real potential. I’m hopeful he keeps developing, but we will see, he’s largely a 2 year starter at this point.

u/Any_Holiday_1932 Sep 05 '26

Yes - Moore can't win big games, Lanning is a mid coach. Too goofy. They're undisciplined. Lot's of talent, but no Cignetti in them at all. Saw them live against Indiana last year, was totally unimpressed. Now they're down to Boise by 10 in their opener.

1

u/Stock-Memory9483 Florida Gators Sep 05 '26

Thank you for bringing this post back, this game is just an assterclass for Moore and Lanning.

2

u/Any_Holiday_1932 Sep 05 '26

Or a Disassterclass. Some team is going to get duped into drafting Moore. I wouldn't touch. Will be the next Cleveland bust. You heard it here first.

big duck fan..im with you though. he has good arm, but doesnt do well when pressured. thats putting it nicely. and our o line gets dominated vs good teams. we look great against shit teams..and silly vs good teams. noit buying the hype

u/mtmc99 Apr 05 '26

There are a bunch of Washington fans. I guarantee we all feel that way

2

u/Rabidschnautzu Ohio State Buckeyes Apr 05 '26

Probably a bit overrated, but they ain't no Penn State.

1

u/gerg555 Apr 05 '26

They've lost 3 games in 2 yrs and all of them were to the eventual national champion

1

u/MiddleAgeJamie Oregon Ducks Apr 05 '26

Will always be seen as overrated until they win the natty.

-1

u/seattlesportsguy Washington Huskies Apr 05 '26

Nope. Fuck the Zeroes.

0

u/CutToTheChase56 Washington Huskies Apr 05 '26

I’m biased as a Huskies fan but I think I agree with you, big shocker. The looked sluggish against Wisconsin (can’t really say shit about that though, we should NOT have lost to them), barely beat Iowa, only pulled away from USC late and the UW game was closer than you might remember.

I think they were clearly a second or even third tier team last year and I’d be shocked if they advanced into legit natty contention after losing so much in the trenches and showing depth issues late last season.

6

u/mccainjames11 Apr 05 '26

We lost 3 o-linemen but 2 of them were the biggest liabilities on the offense. Kept almost every key defensive player we could outside of Theineman. FWIW we didn’t really expect to be good last year and were surprised that we got to the final 4 lol. The thought process is that with another year, Moore and the rest of our key players on offense will have better chemistry and be more cohesive (our two best RBs were both freshmen last year).

Wisconsin was in a monsoon, genuinely the worst weather game I’ve been to (and I’ve been to a decent few). Iowa/USC/UW were all solid enough teams that I don’t feel bad for playing them close. Iowa in particular was the hardest game Indiana has all season.

1

u/nightowl1135 Oregon Ducks Apr 05 '26

I wouldn’t say ‘didn’t expect to be good.’ My goal was to make it back to the CFP and win 1 game so they ‘overperformed’ in that regard but you’re right in that last year was thought of as a set up year for this season where there are legit natty hopes even amongst some of the most clear eyed observers. Even last year at this time, people were “Should be good in ‘25 but ‘26 is the real special season potential”

-3

u/94-25 Apr 05 '26

The only people that don’t think Oregon is overrated are duck fans and ESPN

3

u/Responsible-Still839 Oregon Ducks Apr 05 '26

Duck fan here that also think they a bit overrated. Maybe ranked 7 or 8 to me.

1

u/nightowl1135 Oregon Ducks Apr 05 '26

What exactly is your definition of ‘overrated’?

2025 Preseason Ranking: 7th. Postseason? 4th.

2024 Preseason Ranking: 3rd. Postseason? 3rd.

2023 Preseason Ranking: 15th. Postseason? 6th.

2022 Preseason Ranking: NR. Postseason? 16th.

If anything, they get a little underrated pre season.

Never understood the hype of Lanning, he turns into James Franklin in the playoffs.

Oregon is ALWAYS overrated.

2

u/nightowl1135 Oregon Ducks Apr 05 '26

2025 Preseason Ranking: 7th. Finished 4th.

2024 Preseason Ranking: 3rd. Finished 3rd.

2023 Preseason Ranking: 15th. Finished 6th.

2022 Preseason Ranking: NR. Finished 16th.

That’s Lanning’s record. He’s actually consistently been “always” a little underrated. If anything.

Oregon was top 3 last year and the year before. How’d that work for them? Their coach is ass and an asshole. It’ll never work
