stray cat in canal winchester area. she’s been coming to our porch every night for food; we can’t keep her and wanna find her a home. i’m thinking she’s a stray but there’s a chance she’s lost. she seems young; could be under a year. it’s been hard to tell but we’re pretty sure she’s female. she has gold/green eyes- they’re pretty crusty so she keeps them half shut. she would need to go to the vet for sure. we could arrange for her to be picked up if someone wants her; or if anyone recognizes her, please lmk. she’s so so sweet and deserves a home.

Advice / Question Mom is struggling with her stray cat colony

Thumbnail

My mom lives on a small farm in a very remote town in Ohio in between Wheeling, WV and Pittsburgh, PA. One day earlier this summer she noticed a few stray cats on her property. Not thinking anything of it she started feeding them and in return they kept the mice away.

One of the cats ended up being pregnant. After she gave birth all hell broke lose and they started showing up in droves. She is now up to ~14 cats on her property.

Every rescue she has contacted is at capacity. She is taking them one by one every few weeks to get fixed. But it’s getting to be a LOT for her. And now… the mama cat that will NOT let her touch her is … you guessed it, pregnant again!

If anyone has any recommendations for places she can contact that can take the cats or help find homes for the cats. She won’t stop trying her best to take care of them but she is constantly overwhelmed both mentally and financially by her little colony that decided to make a settlement on her land.

Rescue Can anyone help rescue this kitty?

I was getting ready to rescue this kitty, things happened, I can't afford to rescue it. Kitties age is unknown, I believe it's female, unaltered. When it first showed up about 3 months ago it was DROOLING and in pain, whatever it was made one of my cats sick. I *think* it got hold of a horned lizard and got a full squirt in the mouth, but don't know for sure. 49, Chino Valley, Az

Update* Kitty has been rescued by a very wonderful person. Thank you to all of you for helping.

Advice / Question Help - Feral cats being disposed of!

Hi All, I love animals especially cats and my heart goes out to the feral population in Scranton and anyone who cares for them.

I live on the north side and there is a very serious problem I could use help with. A neighbor not satisfied with animal control's trap & release program started trapping ferals here approximately 8/2025 and is just getting rid of them. This person is not working cooperatively with animal control and is trapping and disposing of even neutered cats. The matter was reported to SPD who gave this person a cursory interview and dumped the issue on animal control who did zero to stop this crime. Reporting this to the mayor's office and all city councilors yielded nothing but "we'll look into it" and no awsers or action.

This person started trapping again 9/2026. I reported it again and a polite officer from SPD showed up and listened but said the issue had to go to animal control. Most disappointingly he didn't even check the trap which was in plain view! No one from animal control has followed up.

A few days later I heard electronic beeping coming from this person's porch. I looked from the sidewalk and it was coming from the trap which likely had a cat in it. I called dispatch and told them they needed to send someone NOW and they'd catch this animal abuser red handed. No one from SPD or animal control showed up and now another feral cat has been disposed of by this vile individual.

If you are an animal lover in this city, please complain about this to the mayor's office and council and demand action. Please reprint and spread this call for action in other social media. If anyone knows of any county or state agencies that can help then please share.

Thank you and God Bless.

mayor: [Scranton311@scrantonpa.gov](mailto:Scranton311@scrantonpa.gov)

city council: [fvoldenberg@scrantonpa.gov](mailto:fvoldenberg@scrantonpa.gov)

Fundraiser A Boy and His Blanket: An Update on Rocket and How You Can Help This Lil' Fighter

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We shared Rocket's story a while ago, when he was touch-and-go. Look at him now!!! Unfortunately, Rocket does need surgery to amputate his leg.

Rocket's story and how you can help.👇

He arrived in foster care at just 3 days old, weighing only ounces and needing round-the-clock care to survive.

His foster mom fed him every hour, day and night.

Rocket fought. He grew into a happy, playful kitten with a serious love for his blankie.

But an infection from his umbilical cord caused septic bursitis in his leg, and now Rocket is facing another fight.

After weeks of trying to treat the infection, his veterinarian has determined that amputation is the only way to give him lasting relief from his pain.

Rocket's surgery and veterinary care will cost $2,800, and we're asking our community to help us reach that goal.

You can donate here (any little bit goes a long way!): https://givebutter.com/rocket-surgery-fund

Let's get Rocket through surgery and back to his blankie. 🐱❤️

Rescue [Ellis county, Texas] I have finally caved and asked for help with Otis but Facebook groups in my area are zero help.

I was recommended to come here from r/colonycats Otis is a cat I took in after someone abandoned him in my neighborhood. I'm not sure how he knew but he came meowing at my door with his brother who we called Milo.

I'm not sure where Milo and Otis went but eventually Milo stopped showing up and it's really sad because he was soooo loving. Otis was a big scared cat that hissed when I picked him up at first.

Well Milo stopped showing up and then Otis showed up with an injury one night. His front left leg had what looked like a snake bite? I'm not sure. It was not exactly a snake bite but there were very noticeable perfectly round holes all over his arm.

I took him in for almost an entire month, got his arm healed up with A LOT of care, we made sure he was clean and healthy, then the Saturday before last we let him out. (We are not allowed to have more than one cat)

Well come Sunday morning he is bleeding everywhere and just runs right inside. We clean everything up from where he tracked blood and we cleaned the arm with peroxide (diluted and es, I know that must have hurt) and then with bactine followed by triple antibiotic and gauze, finished it with a self adhering wrap.

He is doing okay for now but I do not have any more gauze (it's a long story but I don't have a car right now and the people I can ask for a ride will not take me places for the cat I'm almost positive. They are not those type of people) and I'm honestly not sure what else I can do besides giving him more triple antibiotic.

The wound is closing up I can tell but all around the wound the skin is stiff and either scabbed over or his entire arm is dead with necrosis or something. I don't think he can feel it but if I were to peel the scab blood and other stuff would come out so idk if that's making it worse or if I should attempt to remove the nastyness myself?

I'm sorry and I hate to ask. He has also had a big hole in his face from God knows what and he had his face cut down the middle by what I can assume was another cat.

If there is anyone in the south Dallas area or Ellis county area specifically, and you want to help or can give me advice, please let me know.

I have no idea what to do.

P.S. I included a picture of my pumpkin boy!

Advice / Question Should I adopt a stray cats kitten?

[Lusaka, Zambia] There's a stray cat I had been feeding for almost a year. It would sit by my door, welcome me when I get home from work, and even bring me gifts. It had kittens a little over 2 months ago, and only one of them survived. So it slowly introduced its kitten to me by bringing it to my door whenever I got home.

Now the cat died and it's kitten still comes over, I feel the need to have it vaccinated and cleaned and become it's owner, but I'm afraid it might run away, what do I do?

Advice / Question How do I help my neighbor's outside cat and her eye?

Post image
32 Upvotes

I know this is long but please bear with me, trying to provide context for why this is such a volatile situation with my neighbors.

I live in a very urban area, on a street with single family homes. We are between a train and a busy major road. Our city also has a very aggressive and large homeless population who will torture and kill stray animals (without going into detail, I know this through my job). There are also loose large dogs in my neighborhood regularly. Most concerningly, we have a serious coyote problem across the city, and pets are regularly killed by coyotes. Coyotes will be on the street in broad daylight. I found one of the street cats killed by a coyote while walking my dog at night last year. My across the street neighbors have always had a female cat with no collar that hangs out around their home and yard. They have 2 dogs that live inside, one is an unneutered husky who occasionally gets loose and runs into my yard.

I started interacting with this cat probably 4 months ago. She would be hanging out on the sidewalk in front of her house and I would pet her on my way to the train and coming back from the train after work. She started taking a liking to me and getting excited when I would come around. I also got introduced to some of the occupants of the house this way. We had very friendly interactions and would chat or say good morning as I petted the cat. They told me she was a stray that started hanging around their house about 4 years ago, so they started feeding her. At that time she never wore a collar. Note that I never at any point went into their yard, this all occurred on the sidewalk which is city property. Additionally, the cat always had a clouded over, enlarged eye. I've never owned a cat so I wasn't sure what the deal was with her eye. She doesn't seem old so I thought it was odd.

The cat would roam around the street daily so she started coming to my yard and waiting on my porch, often in the morning before the people in her house would get up. I would go have my coffee on the porch and she would sit on my lap and get petted. Then when I left for work I would either just leave her in my yard, or a few times I would pick her up and deposit her into her own yard on my way to the train (I'd rather carry her than have her cross the street alone, people drive crazy). My husband bought a few cans of wet cat food at the grocery store one day because he apparently thought she was a complete stray? I explained that she does get fed at the neighbors house. But then we just had cat food we had no other use for so I put a little bit on a paper plate maybe 3-4 times a few days apart and set it out for her (not a full can, I would split the cans and refrigerate the rest in between). Apparently you aren't supposed to do this with outside cats but I didn't know at the time.

A bit after I last fed her, two of the neighbors (including an older woman who is evidently the mom, I had never seen or met this woman) came over and yelled at my husband while I was at work. The cat was chilling in my driveway, I had been at work for at least 6 hours at this point (I was working 10-12 hours days at the time, not home except for early mornings and nights). My husband tried to be friendly and cordial (I watched multiple times on the ring camera) and they maintained an aggressive tone and said I was "disrespectful" and trying to steal the cat. One of them said "what if we tried to steal one of your dogs" and at this point my husband pointed out that our dogs live entirely inside so this comparison did not make sense. They took the cat and went home, of course she was back a few hours later when I got home. The next day she was wearing a collar (no tag).

The cat continued to visit daily and I would just pet her out front, no feeding. One weekend day she came and sat on my lap while I was reading. As she was sitting, my neighbors were all in a car that drove by and started yelling at me out the window and calling me "cat thief" and saying I was feeding her. I just said, no I am not feeding her she just comes here. They drive off and so I decide I'll write them a nice note explaining that I have stopped feeding her, and she just comes here on her own. However as I was writing this, cat sitting several feet away, the car came back 15 mins later and the older woman and her husband were the only occupants. She got out and came to my porch and started screaming at me. Both my husband and I were more polite than we should have been and I kept saying, hi I was just writing you a note, can we have a conversation about this? She just kept screaming random things for probably 10 minutes as I tried to de-escalate. She said I stole the cat off her porch? I did firmly say that never happened. Eventually she tried to grab the cat and it ran from her behind me. I ended up going inside and I think she did grab the cat after that and left? I never gave them the note, there is no point. My plan after that was just to call the cops if any of them came in my yard again, but we've had no interaction for probably 2 months.

So I started having my coffee in the backyard where the neighbors can't see me. Of course the cat comes every day to hang out with me. She is there like clockwork and if I wake up late she sits and waits for me. I have her a little hammock thing and a few toys back there, and I give her fresh water twice a day. I have never seen a toy at her house, she didn't know what to do with them for a while but now she plays regularly and asks me to play. I don't think she gets enough water at home because she is thirsty when she comes over. I brush her and clean her face daily, including all the discharge from her bad eye. She is truly the sweetest and cuddliest cat I have ever met, and she tolerates perfectly being cleaned, picked up, etc. She sits in my lap every morning and makes biscuits on my robe and will even rub her face against my cheek. One time it rained and I found her soaked and freezing hiding on my outdoor shelf, I made her a shelter with a heated blanket and dried her and warmed her up. We live in a hot area so she wouldn't be too cold in winter, but we sometimes have heat over 100 and I always fret about her and put ice packs in her mat outside.

The issue I am posting about is her eye. It has been getting worse and more swollen over the past few months. She can't see out of it at all. I have been trying to figure out how I can help with this. First of all I think the eye is probably beyond help and needs to come out. It's so bad and she can't see out of it at all. If I thought drops or something would help it I would just sneak her in for an appointment early in the morning and get them. But I can't exactly get an eye removed without the neighbors noticing and losing their shit.

I don't think she gets any kind of vet care whatsoever, she has clearly had a flea once or twice so I don't think she's getting basics like flea and tick meds or vaccines. Her collar came off at some point and they didn't bother replacing it (it never had a tag anyway so not sure what the point was). I thought the eye was severe glaucoma, but recently I spoke to someone who used to do cat rescue and she said it's a virus or infection, that could spread to her brain if left untreated. That really freaked me out and I feel like I have to do something now. I know I could just stick her in a carrier and take her in without issue, she's very chill.

I have basically unlimited budget here (and I know my neighbors definitely do not). I will pay whatever is needed for this cat, I love her. But I'm not forking over several thousand dollars for eye surgery and then leaving her outside as coyote bait. If I get her a surgery she's coming to live in my house and be safe, full stop. But I'm afraid this is going to cause a situation where my neighbors may resort to physical violence and harassment, and try to hurt my small dogs. She's being medically neglected at this point, and I would be justified in reporting them to animal control, but I don't want her to end up in a kill shelter.

What do I do here? I'm at the point where seeing her eye causes me so much anxiety every day. I can't let her suffer like this, she is such a little angel. I have included pictures over time of the eye (it's nasty in earlier pictures but now I clean it every day so less crust).

21 week old boys. They were cuddling in the shelter and who am I to break those two up? Meet Atlas and Nova. Atlas is the Siamese and he’s super super shy while his brother is way more explorative and out going. Context I got them both Friday and it’s a whole thing I made another post on my page. They just got neutered a few days ago, they’re in a brand new environment, with brand new people.

Any tips on helping Atlas come out of his shell more??

Lost Kitty [Davis, Utah] October kitty

Found this little one in a bush mewling late last night on 10/3. I’ll admit I didn’t wait around to see if its mother was nearby. It was alone and seemed to be in distress. My dog who is a sweetheart with baby animals found him and my husband and I grabbed him and fed him some wet food. I Took the day off to get it settled and adjusted. Not sure if he belongs to anyone yet, I’m reaching out to local blue app groups to find out, and tried to get him to see the vet. We have an adult cat and dog, but any tips would be awesome! Thanks 🖤🖤🖤

Advice / Question Looking for information on an ear tattoo on my mother's cat.

Hi all,

My mom adopted a lovely kitty this year and she has an inner ear tattoo that neither of us have seen before. We were just trying to find out if anyone recognized this particular marking, as we have both volunteered in rescue quite a bit in the Western US but never seen this particular marking. I assume it means she is spayed, but I am not sure. We are in the PNW, however I'm not certain where she came from originally. Any help would be appreciated, we would love to find more background.

Rescue Ohio, Cat Rescue - But Why Not Feed Till Fat?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Duane Hook, a cat rescuer in Ohio had uploaded one of his rescues yesterday. Thank you Alyssa fer takin this kitty in after the rescue and congrats you got a new kitty! The stray orange kitty had been stuck in the tree fer 5 days. One of the first things Hook conveys to the neighborhood folks whom called him before he goes up the tree is: don't let the starvin kitty eat a bunch of food when he is outta the tree. Why do you think that is?

Spoiler, tap to reveal text:

I think what the danger is, is refeedin syndrome. The simple summary is that after a "few" days of starvation, the body switches to consume energy from the muscles and fatty tissue and essential electrolytes are depleted. A sudden infusion of food (carbs, like dry food) can create an explosion of insulin production and offset the electrolye production and balance healthy bodies can normally weather. Imbalance can create a cascadin effect creatin other medical conditions where kitty suddenly takes a nosedive and can go into critical condition, needin emergency vet care.

---

Below reprinted from Getmeowtahere - Cat in a Tree Rescue's FB post:

I received a call from a couple of different neighborhood residents regarding this unknown #ginger #cat that was chased #upatree 5 days earlier. The neighborhood came together to search for an owner but none was found. Thankful for Alyssa stepping up to care for this big scared boy and for him to change his mind and walk right over to me. #catinatree #animalrescue #treeclimbing

Advice / Question UAE, AL AIN my cat is missing while im away for college.

Post image
84 Upvotes

(This is going to be a long post)

My cat "Mipha" has been missing for 7 days now.

He's been missing before btw. On july 11th, he jumped from our balcony at around 5 or 6 am in the morning while I was sleeping, and I did everything I could for 2 days, had no results.... well, around 12:00–12:30 am on july 14th, my other cat, "Zora" (who is mipha's brother), started meowing a lot. It almost felt like he was trying to tell me something. He led me to the balcony and started meowing even frantically. That's when I heard 2 faint meows, which sounded a lot like mipha..... long story short, I got him back.

He looked really tired, had a busted lip, and had some crumbs stuck to his mouth( poor guy tried to gnaw on/eat something hard). He came in and spent like 10 whole minutes just drinking water and just laid on the floor for VERY tired and didn't eat anything.

All this happened AFTER my high school exams when I was still home in the UAE

Here's what I did for those 2 days:

The moment I realized Mipha was not home, I went out and immediately started searching the under the balcony area and possible places he could've gone. I used to search like 7 times a day, and it would be of no avail. I put a blanket out that I had been using and HIS food bowl with food out under the balcony area, which might've helped him identify his way back or something.

...............My parents had left for a trip at around 5 pm on the 26th of September and had come back around 3 pm on the 27th of September....

Zora is home, but Mipha isn't... Im in India for college, and it has been SEVEN DAYS

My dad goes out 3 times a day and searches for him... It's been difficult. I've been a complete mess as I can't PHYSICALLY do anything ....... I feel like I should mentally prepare myself to forget him or something as it's the same news every day when I call my parents "we have not seen Mipha yet."

Mipha is a 1 year old white cat, and he is neutered.

There are a lot of stray cats here, my dad called me and told me he heard a couple of cats fighting outside while he was sleeping (around 6am) rushed out to see if Mipha is involved... he wasn't.

I genuinely dont know what to do, im so lost and devastated. Knowing he is out there, alone with no food and water, scared..... breaks my heart.

I read this one user had a cat who went misisng and was found in a cargoship in a neighbouring country, the cat might've jumped into a pick up truck or something.....

Thinking of all these possibilities terrifies me, I just want my baby back safe and healthy.

If you see this post please please please reply. Let me know if anything similar has happened to you or someone you know and if I should provide additional information.

Heart-warmer Meet Our Most Recent Rescued Kittens

Post image
237 Upvotes

Look what we discovered while trapping recently! All five of these kittens popped out from under a fence.

Hmm, what to do, what to do???

Of course, we picked them up, cleaned them, and fed them.

Three of them had their eyes matted shut, but after multiple vet visits and loving care, they are doing great.

They'll be up for adoption when they're old enough and fixed, but for now they are living the good life with us.
