When it comes to creativity October truly is my second favorite month of the year, it's just fun to have a reason to write spooky lines with a bit of playfulness.
So fire up your Game Boy/DAW/synth/Ouija board or whatever ritual you use to breathe life into something terrifying, with sounds that belong in the past but are still religiously celebrated over here <3
If only there where some awesome musicians out there who can save this poor girl!
Le rules (please read them carefully as there might have been some slight updates!):
Three weeks for the contest to write a original piece, closing date will be Oct 22nd.
Only original uploads for this contest: this is NOT a moment to try and promote older work.
Absolutely No AI generated music will be accepted, when in doubt I will ask you to provide proof of your work.
Your submission has to be chiptune but like before that is vaguely defined, I don't mind what you use and how you use it, as long as it makes me want to dust off that good ol' classic system because your epic music is giving me an urge to kill something pixelated!!
Max 1 submission per artist name.
Stick to the contest prompt, if your track does not bring out any Halloween vibes, it won't be accepted for the voting round.
I expect tracks that makes me want to call the ghostbusters!
This month (fun?) fact:
Samhainophobia means fear of halloween, there are people out there who are going to have an extra spooky month!
Now go and be awesome!
-Carf!
PS: I have added an option to opt-out of the monthly mix, just in case if for any reason people do not like to be part of it but still want to participate with the contest itself.
I'll give you a hint. This is a cover of an awesome song composed by my friend Adam Skorupa, known as Skorpik. It's music from the game "Behind the Iron Gate." I'm not sure, but I think it was the first Polish game I bought. Doomy atmosphere, you know. Amiga 500, etc. The song I'm presenting was composed by my friend Joel Morris. Listen. I think it's top-notch. Big shout-out to Skorpik and Joel.
Hi, I finally finished this Game Over track made with 0CC FamiTracker (& NES-palette cover animation using LibreSprite and MediBang Paint). Inspired by Dimeback, chibi-tech and Jake "virt" Kaufman, among others.
I ported karimkfoure's m8emu, which runs the Dirtywave M8 Headless firmware without a Teensy, to Apple Silicon Macs.
Get M8_V6_5_2C_HEADLESS.hex from Dirtywave's repo, pick it in the app on first launch, and play from the keyboard or a gamepad. Buttons are remappable.
It isn't notarized. Move it to Applications and run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/m8emu.app once before opening it.
Massive thank you to Max Levin, who had the recording on a tape. What a find, what a find. There's even an unreleased song in here that i've never heard them play before, it's at the end.
While not used on any specific type of hardware, It has a distinct style specific to it that's easy to tell apart from other chip tune music. A decent amount of older PC games used it. As an example of the Windows MIDI sound font I linked a song above that was designed for it.
I'm trying VGM Music Maker. Every drum sample i get is either not even drum sample or doesn't work. So I'm going the worst possible way to fix as someone not experienced.
Anyone hints to making a drum kit in the instrument tab?
There's a new Android chip tune player on the Play Store. Full disclosure: I was a beta tester and received the app for free (it costs $5) to test. I'm not being compensated to post about it. Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. The search works pretty well. Songs on HVSC, ASMA and Modland are all indexed. VGMRips has some search capabilities. JoshW's archives are browse-only. I was able to queue up a bunch of my personal favorites... Delta, Last Ninja Wasteland, and Onslaught (Mod). One thing I thought was pretty cool is that you can switch the playback speed right in the play screen (between PAL and NTSC). Onslaught sounded slow to me, but when I switched ot over to NTSC, it sounded perfect. Anyway, I liked it, just thought I'd share.
Dearest bleeps and bloops!
The world's dankest chiptune collective is bringing unhinged chiptune radio, live to your little pixel ears at 6PM CET.
In today's episode we'll be listening to both stupidly good and good stupid music, as well as get a quick recap of some personal selects from last weekend's Lo-Bit Club vol. 2 and Syd in Sweden!
Tune in at sydhavnsboelgen.dk or 98,7FM if you're near Århus, Denmark!
Crunchy wishes from KSÅ Krew!
