What does this graph mean?

Post image
3 Upvotes

This is from Color & Light by Charlie Pickard et. al. in the Value Scales section.

In the second paragraph Pickard says “our vision has evolved to be more sensitive to changes in the darker end of the value scale”

I interpret this sentence as: Subtle changes between darker values are easier for humans to distinguish than subtle changes between lighter values. So a black and slightly less black will be more noticeable than white and slightly less white.

Then in the next paragraph in the Exponential Drop-Off section he says “the loss of value accelerates the closer it gets to black”

I interpret this sentence as: there are less color options the closer you get to black

Not the graph, it looks like the number of observed values is highest when the actual value is closer to 10… which is white? I think I’m missing something here.

Can anyone help me identify my misunderstanding?

Learning Colour

I need some help with finding some good and free resources for learning colours. I mainly work with watercolours, acrylic markers and sometimes digital as well. (videos that start from the basic would be helpful as I believe my fundamentals are lacking)

Thank you in advance!!

Also any tips to choose colours for a composition would be really appreciated as well :)

An autumn colour combination I’m loving 🍂🤎

Burnt Olive — PANTONE 18-0521 TCX
Toffee — PANTONE 18-1031 TCX

Such an easy combination for autumn modest outfits. Burnt olive gives the outfit that rich seasonal feel, while warm toffee keeps everything soft and neutral.

I’d pair an olive abaya or maxi dress with a toffee hijab — or reverse the colours for a softer look. 🍂

Would you wear these two together?

Why does this color look both green and blue?

We are looking at paint samples for trying out a sort of Dark Academia vibe for our guest bedroom, and while we think this color looks to be a nice deep green on the sample card we have, we are worried that it might turn out like in the second image.

Please help me understand how this one color can look so dramatically different, and what exactly it is that makes it so blue in some images.

I find difference about this colors

you can can call me strange but as of now I don’t find color blue to be masculine (for boys), and pink to be feminine (for girls), the only colors I can say that now is that the color white is feminine to me because it reminds me of a woman’s soft touch for girls), and black is masculine because it feels edgy and rebellious to me(for boys).
