Credit Score If you need a free CIBIL report more than once a year, use UMANG / DigiLocker

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

While you can always just check your credit score using apps like GPay or OneScore or other apps, they don’t give you a printable PDF of your CIBIL report. That becomes a problem when you actually need the report for reference or to email a bank about mismatches or reporting errors.

And CIBIL officially allows only one free credit report per year. If you want another one, you’re asked to pay ₹118, and that’s just for the PDF that you can download just once (with no score included).

A workaround I recently discovered:
Use UMANG, or access UMANG via DigiLocker on the web. Enter your PAN details and it redirects you to CIBIL’s own website, where you can view a newly generated score with report and download the full PDF report for free.

I used this recently twice within the same month to verify closure of a credit card and to check whether Kotak was reporting my FD-backed credit card as secured or unsecured after emailing them to rectify it.

Once you have the PDF, raising disputes with banks for small errors like this becomes much easier.

Hope this helps someone.

EDITED TO ADD: Here is the link to Umang website: UMANG - One App, Many Government Services. Here are screenshots to guide you through the process on recommendation from u/TauJii:

  1. https://ibb.co/Fk9Tq3gS (Enter PAN Details)
  2. https://ibb.co/1t5FRtHZ (Select a report and it will redirect you to cibil website)
  3. https://ibb.co/jkB7W5C7 (Click on print this cibil report to download a pdf copy, no login is required)

TL;DR:
CIBIL gives only 1 free credit report per year. Apps like GPay/OneScore don’t give a downloadable PDF. If you need another free CIBIL report, use UMANG via DigiLocker on web, it just redirects to CIBIL’s site and lets you download the newly generated report PDF for free that people pay 118 for.

Credit Score I had one late payment in 2007 and look what it did to my CIBIL

Post image
532 Upvotes

Also that late payment was by mistake as I forgot to pay on time by few days due to a busy schedule. Rest is all perfect. I have 322 timely payment and no other default. I would expect my score to be nothing less that 850 but cards are always stacked against person as compared to company. A company with much worse credit rating can raise crores of loans but we individuals have to be so proper. Just one late payment can push your score below 800.

Credit Score Realised the importance of even 1 point in CIBIL score today

I'm looking to take a home loan soon. Explored a lot of banks and finally came across union Bank offering the lowest rates.

However they give 8.1% to people with score of 800 & above and 8.2% to people with score between 750-799.

And guess what's my score! 799 😭

Any tips on increasing it?

Have been paying on time since 2016, just 1 late payment in 2018. No open loans. ~25L Total credit limit across cards. Utilisation is always around 5% & might have gone to 10-15% at best.

Credit Score Stop stressing over CIBIL enquiries

Post image
152 Upvotes

I keep seeing posts about “how many enquiries are too many” or “will this enquiry reduce my CIBIL score?”

Honestly, nobody really knows the exact formula CIBIL uses for every individual case, so there’s no point stressing over every single enquiry.

Just focus on the things you can control:
1. Pay EMIs/CC bills on time.
2. Keep utilisation under control.
3. Don’t apply for credit unnecessarily.
4. Check your report for incorrect enquiries/accounts.

A lender enquiry doesn’t automatically mean your score is going to tank.
Pay on time, maintain good credit behaviour, and stop obsessing over every enquiry.

Credit Score Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my CIBIL.

Post image

I started with app loans.. snapmint kind of pay later. Then I got offers from other apps too used them paid always on time, all were unsecured loans obviously. Later last year got bike from l&t finance and took a loan of 120000 and paid almost half now. Total due is now somewhere appx 65000 and 20k on apps.

My salary i get 20-23k in hand.

Issue is my cibil keeps revolving around 750 sometimes it is 745 and sometimes it's 750 sometimes it's 755 but never increase from this. Also the credit history is 2 years appx.

May i know what's the reason? Why cibil don't increase. I don't even get a credit card so that I can use it for cibil improvement. Where my friends earning same gets loan offers and credit card offers.

Where I am doing wrong!

(Please don't tell me you should not have purchased bike with this salary as it is paid by my father so it doesn't counts under my personal debt)

Credit Score Flipkart super money fd credit card is goat for building credit score:)

Hey everyone, just wanted to share a quick story because I wish someone had told me this earlier.

I recently got into credit cards, but since I’m a student I had no CIBIL score (literally 0) and couldn’t apply for most cards or even the usual FD-backed ones that require ₹10k–₹20k FDs.

Then I found out about the Flipkart SuperMoney FD-backed Credit Card. You can start it with just ₹500 FD.

Applied for it, got approved easily, started using it for small purchases and paying the bill on time. Within a month, my CIBIL shot up from 0 to 770!

Here’s why I think it’s a game Changer

You can start with just ₹500, so zero stress about big FDs.

Completely online process no bank visits.

Instant approval and smooth delivery experience.

The app lets you track your FD, spending, and payments easily.

You even earn interest on your FD while using the card.

Honestly, this card makes building credit effortless perfect for students or anyone with no credit history.

Credit Score How do I take it beyond 800?

Post image
117 Upvotes

I'm 26 M. My score was 786 before taking a home loan which was disburserd on 16th January. Probably that pushed it to 796. The EMI will start from February end and i plan to prepay aggressively.

Other than that, I have a 3+ years old Standard Chartered Manhattan Platinum credit card with a 50k limit.

The Bank Manager has promised me a 0.15% ROI reduction once I go beyond 800. How do I get there within the next 3-4 months?

Credit Score SBI did credit inquiry 3 times for one credit card

Post image
111 Upvotes

I had applied for SBI credit card in July. My application was approved and received the card ik around 7-8 days.

I refreshed my credit score today to see my score dropped my 8 points due to 3 credit enquiries done by SBI. I have credit cards from HDFC and ICICI as well but didn't face such issue with them.

Is it normal for SBI to make multiple credit enquiries for a single card?

Credit Score Anyone closed an old credit card and regretted it later?

Thumbnail

I have a 5-year-old Federal Bank credit card that I'm considering closing.

I barely use it anymore because the rewards points and cashback benefits aren't very attractive compared to my other cards. It's mostly just sitting in my wallet and taking up space.

For context, I have other active credit cards with higher limits that I use regularly. My main concern is how closing this old card might affect my credit score, especially since it's my oldest card (around 5 years old).

Has anyone here closed an old credit card and seen a noticeable impact on their credit score? Would you keep it open for credit history purposes, or just close it if it no longer provides any value?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Credit Score -1 CIBIL, “No Credit History” → 790 CIBIL + 9 Years Credit History in 15 Days?! 🥹🥹How?!

For the last 2–3 years, I genuinely thought I had no credit history because whenever I checked CIBILand even my slice and simply click card rejected due to no cibil score, it showed -1 / score not generated / no recent credit history.

So I assumed I had to start from absolute zero. I got an 5k FD-backed Kotak credit card specifically to build my credit score aug 15.

The funny part? I didn’t even use the card during the first ~15 days — ₹0 utilisation. After aug 29 i got a notification in gpay ur cibil score updated.

Then suddenly I checked my CIBIL…

Score : 780. 🥹 with a clean 26/26 repayment history.

And then I noticed something even crazier: my report is showing around 9 years of credit history.
Apparently, an old two-wheeler loan from around 2017–2019, which I had completely repaid and closed, is still appearing with its repayment history.
Now I’m seriously confused 🥲

1. Did the Kotak card trigger the generation/refresh of my CIBIL score, even with ₹0 utilisation?

  1. Or was the 780 already coming from my old two-wheeler loan history, with the new card simply causing CIBIL to generate/update my score?

  2. And how exactly can a closed loan from 2017–2019 give me ~9 years of credit history today?

I’ve attached screenshots of the old loan, repayment history and new Kotak card.
Would love to hear from anyone who understands CIBIL scoring/reporting better. Because I spent 2–3 years thinking: “I have no credit history 🥲”

Meanwhile CIBIL was apparently sitting there like:
“My brother, we have your entire 2017 EMI attendance record.” 😂

Credit Score Advice for reaching 800+

Post image
31 Upvotes

Hey,
I’m 22 years old and currently in my final year of B.Tech. Since I’m still studying, I don’t have a job or regular income at the moment expect for the pocket money I get from my parents . My credit history is around 2 years and 3 months old.
I started my credit journey with an FD-backed OneCard, and I’d like to eventually build my CIBIL score above 800. What can I do to achieve that? Since I’m a student, I obviously can’t take high-value loans like a home loan just to build my credit history.
Also, what are the other advantages of having a high credit score? And is it possible to get premium credit cards based primarily on a high credit score, even if I don’t currently have a job?

Credit Score HSBC TravelOne cc rejected — not due to credit score (800+), but “behaviour score” 🤷‍♂️

Post image
116 Upvotes

I wanted to share my recent experience with HSBC, in case it helps anyone considering the HSBC TravelOne credit card

I’m already an existing HSBC credit card customer (Visa Platinum). A few weeks back, I got a call from HSBC customer support saying I’m eligible for the TravelOne card with a joining fee of ₹5,900 and I applied.

Completed KYC, waited through the long process… and then got a rejection. Initially, they just said “internal criteria” and stopped responding. After escalating, I finally got a proper answer.

👉 Reason for rejection: Behaviour score

👉 Not credit score

For context:

* My CIBIL score is 800+

* No missed or delayed payments ever

* Salaried professional with handsome salary

* Existing HSBC customer

* But I have 15+ active credit cards

HSBC clarified that the rejection was due to their behaviour score, which apparently considers factors like the number of existing credit cards, even if your credit score, income, and repayment history are strong.

So basically:

* Good credit score ❌ not enough

* Too many cards ❌ red flag for HSBC

Honestly, I wasn’t aware that simply having a higher number of cards could itself be a red flag, even with good financial discipline. This experience made it clear that going forward, I’ll probably need to rethink and reduce my credit card count instead of just focusing on score and payments.

I’m not saying HSBC is wrong — banks can have their own risk models — but it was frustrating because:

  1. I was proactively told I was eligible

  2. They took me through full KYC

  3. The actual reason came out only after escalation

Posting this so others don’t assume a rejection always means poor credit score. Sometimes it’s just that you’re too credit-active for a particular bank’s appetite.

If you already hold a lot of cards, you might want to rethink applying for HSBC TravelOne — or at least be prepared for this outcome.

May be it’s my issue. Happy to hear if anyone else faced something similar with HSBC or other banks.

Credit Score Credit score dropped by 69 points

Post image
35 Upvotes

Credit score dropped due to missed payment with axis, i missed the due date on 4th September since i thought i had paid it, then they reported it on 23rd Sept, after which i paid the bill. Tried calling them today, but the rep said they can't do anything about it, and when politely asked to speak with the supervisor, he said he would arrange a callback in the next 24hrs.

It was a mistake on my part, but can nothing be done to reverse this reduction report from Axis? i have 5 years of on time payments, and this was my first card as well. It really seems like overkill for a 150 Rs missed CC payment to drop cibil by 69 points. Any advice is appreciated.
