Announcement Regarding low-effort posts & questions

Hey everyone,

Regarding these common posts such as: “what to do in Nicosia, what to do in ….” or other real estate and common tourist questions that can be easily looked up and have been answered before.

Please just report the post and do not engage in the comments, if you think the post should be removed. When there are multiple reports on a post, we receive a notification and can deal with them on a case by case basis. When you engage and start discussions we are more hesitant to remove the post as you all invested your time for a response and it would be counterproductive to remove them. At least thats what I would think.

If you have different suggestions on this topic let us know.

Venting / Rant Venting

I’m terrible at Reddit posts and rants so I apologies
in advance.

I moved here with my wife from the UK for a better life.
Back in the UK, I had a very successful sales career and my wife had a job she enjoyed. We had a very nice brand new car every few years (company car) and rented a nice house. We moved to Cyprus because, in the UK our income was amazing but after taxes and all day to day expenditure, we were still left with very little at the end of it. On top of that, England was becoming a much more unpleasant place to live with all the issues that were happening.

Cyprus was the obvious choice as I am Cypriot. We came over, bought an apartment (which we could never have afforded in the UK) and I started a company.
Unfortunately, my ex employer saw this as a breach of my non compete clause and I had to close down.
This did allow me to cover my wife and I expenses for a year however so this kept us living well.

My wife then fell pregnant with our son. I obviously had to start getting a stable income in so I started doing swimming pool maintenance and servicing, with some Wolt deliveries on the side. As we don’t have a mortgage or anything to pay, this has been enough to keep us stable.

We have just found out my wife is pregnant with our 2nd child. Based on how much our baby boy has cost us the first time, I’ve now been looking for another job position, but something a bit mote suited to my previous experience, which is sales director/sales manager positions.

Every single job vacancy I’ve come across on my search, has been for tech, IT or SaaS. Any I have actually come across in relevant fields to mine (manufacturing/engineering) have ridiculous expectations of qualifications and experience (and without the salary to match those expectations)

I guess I’m just having a rant because job searching these last few weeks has been killing me. I’m sure I’ll find something, it’s just proving a lot harder than I thought.

Thanks for reading.

Question Is this normal for a gynaecologist in Cyprus?

Yesterday I visited a gynaecologist in Nicosia, and the experience left me feeling really uncomfortable.

First, there was no receptionist or nurse. He seemed to be running the entire practice alone, which I found unusual for a gynaecologist.

His office was also filled with religious paintings and statues, including a huge Virgin Mary painting directly facing patients. Honestly, it felt more like a church than a medical office. I respect religious beliefs, but personally, I prefer a more neutral healthcare environment.

Then came the GESY issue. He repeatedly insisted my beneficiary number was wrong, even though I've been registered for months and have already used GESY without problems. While I was trying to show him my details, he spent quite some time talking on the phone, barely acknowledging me.

Eventually, I left without even being examined.

What bothered me wasn't just the GESY confusion, but his dismissive attitude and the overall atmosphere.

It's 2026. Am I expecting too much by wanting a professional, welcoming and patient-centred environment?

Has anyone else had similar experiences in Cyprus?

And can anyone recommend a kind, professional and open-minded gynaecologist in Nicosia who works with GESY?

I started a clothing brand inspired by Cyprus

Hey guys !! so this past year I started a clothing brand with my brother n best friend inspired by Cyprus. we spent a lot of time living abroad and being far away made us appreciate Cyprus a lot more. Especially all the little things that you don’t get anywhere else. some of our designs are inspired by things like lefkara lace, aphrodite’s rock, the plastic chairs you see everywhere, local football pitches and just everyday life in cyprus. we also take a lot of inspiration from vintage clothing, streetwear and things we’ve come across while living abroad. it’s been a lot of trial and error, and we’re still learning as we go, but it’s been really fun making something that’s connected to home. thought i’d share a few of our pieces here and see what you guys think. would love to hear some honest opinions, especially from fellow cypriots!

Venting / Rant Is Cyprus traffic getting worse, or am I cursed?

Hi all,

There have been a lot of posts about traffic, parking, honking, etc., in Cyprus, and I have always found those complaints a bit exaggerated. It’s uncomfortable and disrespectful to park outside periptero in the wrong lane, blocking half the road, but in the end, it’s not inherently dangerous, and I’ve always had a rather calm attitude toward all these things.

However, lately, at least to me, it seems that the situation has changed for the worse.

Just in the last 3 months alone, I have encountered the following incidents:

  1. While riding in a taxi, we were T-boned at an unregulated intersection. The driver was probably on his phone.

  2. I stopped at a red light as the first car at the line and was rear-ended. Now I'm facing months of waiting for parts. I have no idea how you could miss that. The guy was probably on his phone too. He didn't have insurance either.

  3. While on the highway, a guy in a huge SUV just started moving into my lane while overtaking me. I honked, and the guy dropped his phone and swerved back.

  4. Just yesterday, TWICE on the same trip, other cars tried to take the first exit on a ring road while entering from the inner circle, surely without indicators. I had to brake hard, and it was pure luck that I didn't get rear-ended again.

Right now, I feel very uncomfortable driving every day because I'm expecting to get hit from any direction and don't trust other cars approaching from behind or the sides.

Well, I didn't mean to write such a long vent, but basically my question is: is this just bad luck and anecdotal evidence on my part, or have you guys also noticed that traffic has changed for the worse, say, over the course of this year?

tl;dr: Has the traffic situation become more dangerous lately, or is it just me and my bad luck?

Help I wrote a small dictionary of Cypriot phrases. Which ones am I missing?

I’ve been writing short explanations of Cypriot phrases: what they mean, where the words come from and how you’d actually use them. So far there’s Ενίξερω, Έππεσεν τ' αφάλιν μου, Κόπιασε, Μεν μασιέσαι and a few more. Full disclosure: I also print them on T-shirts, which is how this started. Two questions: does anyone know where "Αγγούρι του Πίνγκου" comes from? And which phrase should I add next? https://eniksero.com/cypriot-phrases/

How much does a car key copy cost?

They told me the key only is 80€ and the whole key with the sensor etc... it's 300€.

I don't really know the prices and wanted to know if that's the actual average price in Cyprus 😅😊

Help Property conversion question - advice / help needed

Hi Redditors.

I need some guidance as I'm doing this from the UK for now. My mum has a house in limassol - two floors that are not connected ( we have a long standing tenant that lives above the area my mum uses when she goes to visit).

We were thinking of selling but I am now in a position where I may not be able to work anymore, and don't want to stay in the UK if that's the case. The plan was to always move back to Cyprus. I can't afford to rent another place - so we'll have to convert the property so that it's one house and not two floors. .

Problem 1 - the tenant has been there for 30 years and we've put the rent up twice in that time! She's paying £250 and is 93. ( My mum is an empath 🤦‍♀️). So we will need to ask her to move out - which I'm sure will be tricky. We've told her this is what may need to happen as my mum has cancer, and may need to move back with me.

  1. Having done the research it says we may be able to do this is we have proof that we are converting the house for sale or personal use - and need to get plans approved by land registry.
Bonus points if you've had a similar situation with a long term tenant.

So, has anyone converted a property and can you share your experience? Timelines, process?

TL;DR need advice / experiences on how to get planning permission to convert a house.

Car rentals in Ayia Napa

Guys what is the best place to rent a car in Ayia Napa (or somewhere easily close), i need places that you used and had good experience and didn't have any problems, and relatively cheap, with full insurance and no deposit if possible. We want to rent for 3-4 days to travel all around beautiful Cyprus. Thank youuu
