Notes from Dan Campbell press conference on October 19 2026

Dan Campbell: "We got some clarity on some things we can do...I think we are improving in areas...I think we're beginning to figure out who we are a little bit."

Campbell said it'd be "asking a lot" for Brian Branch to give them 70+ plays vs. Green Bay on Sunday.

Campbell expands saying the plan is for both Brian Branch and Cade Mays to play this week, but they're still figuring out their workload this week.

They're still trying to figure out if they want to rotate Cade Mays (wrist) and Juice Scruggs at center.

Dan Campbell calls Penei Sewell's move to left tackle "outstanding." Says he may even look more smooth out there, and sees him still improving.

Campbell said he felt – in some ways – more optimistic heading into the bye this year at 3-2 than he was a year ago at 5-2. “We're ascending and we're growing, and we're young," he said. "That's exciting. I do feel like we're on the rise here."

My Kerby conspiracy theory

Since so many people believe the conspiracy that Kerby won't ever play again, I'm throwing my tinfoil hat into the ring.

I think he had to take some banned substances in order to rehab his knee. Either HGH, steroids, the blood of a virgin saint, or something else. He's ready to go, but can't until the banned stuff gets out of his system, and he won't test positive for it anymore. That's why he thought he was going to start the year playing. It was supposed to be cleared by now, but it's lingering around. As soon as it's gone, he is on the field.

EDIT: Didn't think I needed to say this, but I was wrong..... this is a joke.

Post drafting Gibbs in 2023, the Lions have not blown a 4th quarter lead in regulation

Post drafting Gibbs in 2023, the Lions have not blown a 4th quarter lead in regulation (only two games listed - Lost to Seattle in OT, Dallas refs failed to report).

This is a Dan Campbell stat and a testament to the identity of this team. They know how to finish games, manage the clock, and go for it on 4th down to end the game better than any team. Great coaching, great play calling, and great execution under pressure.

Truly Brand New Lions because look at how many blown leads under the Patricia regime.

Anybody else feeling optimistic?

I feel like we have a great chance of booming from now on. Granted I think our secondary is still going to give up yards. But our defensive line can hopefully continue to produce at an elite level. Branch is coming back. I had us at 11-6 at the start of the year and I still feel the same. I like bold predictions. And I think at home against the packers we put the league on notice. Not by blowout but by an adaptable all grit team that at the head level with Campbell refuses any less than what his players are capable of.

Can someone who knows ball better than me tell me how he’s doing? Haven’t heard his name much and feels like we barely see him on the field.

Why not Kool-Aid

I've seen a lot of trade ideas to snag players from struggling teams - why not go after Kool-Aid McKinstry from the Saints?

If we were willing to give up a second and something else for JPJ, why not the same for Kool-Aid who is younger and cheaper?

Plus he played for Gibbs, Jamo and BB at Bama, so he gets to reunite with his boys.

I get that the NFC South is a toss up so Saints may not be ready to sell, but they have the Steelers and Browns before the trade deadline. If they are sitting at 2-6 at that point, do they make some moves?

Cardinals hold off the Rams in AZ and keep the Rams offense to 16 points

Every win counts in the NFL. Don't care if it was just the Cardinals, dropping 45 points and having what 5 or 6 straight 3&outs is a big deal no matter which team you're playing.

I daresay...we just gotta clean some things up. We may not be dominant this year but wildcard is very much within reach in this NFC.

I think the Lions will spank the Packers next week

They're riding high on a primetime win over a shit Dallas team at home. 4:25 start at home is gonna be absolutely lit! 31-17 with a late Pack TD to make it look closer than it was.

So, who do you think Brad is calling the Chargers and Colts about?

Mack? Donte Jackson? Nick Cross or Blackmon for safety depth? Haven't watched much of either of those two teams this year...doubt anyone instantly fixes our roster, but having veteran depth in the secondary and defense in general is always good

SG-H has an interesting story to make it to the NFL. I hope he becomes a mainstay on the D-Line.

Why does this sub want Brad to go “all-in” and shorten our window by years when it almost never works?

It worked one time for the Rams, with a lot of lucky bounces and dropped game-winning interceptions to help them get it done. Every other “all-in” move I can recall did not result in that team winning a ring.

Shit, when’s the last time the consensus favorite pre-season has even won the Super Bowl?

Unpopular fact - there is a massive amount of luck and random chance that goes into determining who wins the Super Bowl.

You could assemble the greatest team in history but if you don’t get lucky, you won’t be winning shit.

The current and greatest iteration of the Rams unbeatable on paper super team is 2-4.

Why not build for sustainable success to give ourselves the most chances for things to fall our way? (Stay healthy, get lucky breaks, etc)
