I left the house at 4am, a helicopter was hovering and a cop car was circling the block (Normandy Heights). Westbound 40 traffic stopped on the Patapsco bridge, with literally 20+ police vehicles, all with lights flashing. Eastbound was clear but officers were alongside the road with at least one K9. Anybody know what was going on?

The Exxon station on Montgomery Road near the Long Gate shopping center is closed. There's lots of construction equipment and the lot is torn up. Does anyone know what is happening?

Just had it go off for the second day in a row. Not particularly long, about 10-15 seconds before things get going again, but it's very frustrating and the frequency is getting worrisome because my neighborhood has almost never had problems like this before this year. So, isolated incident or is there some sort of regional power grid strain happening?

At the community meeting in 2022 the developers of Ellicott Mill Apartments shared that the starting rate for a one bedroom would be between $1,700 and $1,800*. Yes, I know that was 4 years ago and markets change -- but the prices released on the Apartments.com page last week are insane.

I work in housing development and there is absolutely no reason why rents should increase $450-$550 in four years (one-bedrooms are now starting at $2,255 and go all the way up to $2,875). Yes, the development process and construction period experienced serious delays and certainly incurred more costs. But this is not what we agreed to as a community! That price range was similar to nearby apartments at the time (Ellicott Grove, Burgess Mill, etc.) and now the prices are even above Oella Mill, which is notoriously expensive.

Personally I am very annoyed. My partner and I have been watching the construction for years and had always hoped to move into a two-bedroom, assuming it would be at worst $2,400-$2,500 based on the one-bed pricing from 2022. But two beds are now $3,460??? Up to $4,140??? That's a mortgage payment on a $700K+ house with a 20% down payment.

Hopefully the market won't respond and they'll have to drop the prices for leasing, but wow, I am very disappointed. The exclusion of any formal affordable housing in a 190 unit development is bad enough (would it kill you to set aside 20 units for low-income folks, especially with the opportunities for additional funding if so?) but now even moderately high-income folks like myself are excluded. More housing for the uber wealthy in Ellicott City... as if there isn't enough for that.

If the development companies involved in this project initiate a new project anywhere in the Baltimore region I'll be at the public hearing, mouthing off, unless they drop these prices.

*I cannot find a source for this online unfortunately, but there are some FB comments after the hearing that shared that figure. I remember reading the notes from the community hearing back in 2023 but I can't find them anymore. If anyone has that please feel free to DM or comment here.

I live in Woodstock and I'm looking for a good auto shop in the greater Ellicott City area. Both my husband and I have Subarus and mostly just need routine maintenance but my car is about 15 years old so some things are probably getting close to needing to be replaced.
