Eurovision Asia 'Light' by Beck has been disqualified from ESC Asia 2026 - 'Chamguigeer (Without You)' will now represent Mongolia in its place 🇲🇳

Thumbnail instagram.com
• Upvotes

hey y'all! 🤠

so, a few days ago, it was discovered that 'light' by beck, the song originally chosen to represent mongolia at eurovision asia 2026, had actually been released via facebook in 2018, thereby making it ineligible to compete in eurovision asia.

well, it's just been confirmed that 'light' has indeed been disqualified for having been released publicly before 1st july 2026 (this seems to be the eurovision asia equivalent of 1st september for europe, as in the earliest date that songs can be released and be eligible for eurovision asia).

'chamguigeer (without you)', the runner-up of mongolia's national final 'mongolia's chosen one', will now represent mongolia at eurovision asia 2026 instead.

💬 Discussion What is the significance of the number "62020161" on the cover of Alexandra Capitanescu's "CMYM"

I have been listening to her new album an unhealthy amount, but noticed oddly the covers of "Choke Me," "Heat" and "CMYM" (her three album singles) haven't changed to the album cover yet (which is typical when a song releases in an album at a later date). I've never looked at the cover arts all too closely, but I noticed an interesting string of numbers on the cover art (for the single, not the album). Does anyone have any ideas what this could mean?

Happy Birthday to Lucio! 🎉

Wishing you the best and let's remind ourselves of this awesome "electric guitar" version of your classic song.

This was the first time when I got certain "winner vibes" (similar to when Salvador mimicked trumpet during his 2017 rehearsal) that year.

Brunette represented Armenia in 2023 with Future Lover. This is an interval performance she did at the 2025 NF. I hadn't come across it until today and holy smokes she's amazing! If Brunette ever wants to come back to ESC as a contestant or interval act or in any other capacity, I'll be a very happy Eurofan.

Subreddit / Meta Subreddit 2026-2027 Mod Team Hiring

Hello, lovely community!

Another year, another Eurovision season, and now with Eurovision Song Contest Asia in the mix!

With the continuing global expansion of the contest, we would like our community's mod team to better reflect the variety of nations taking part. To that end, we are opening our 2026-2027 Eurovision season hiring process today.

While we are especially looking for candidates based in timezones in Asia, the Americas, and Oceania, all are still welcome to apply!

What does it entail?

Moderating is a volunteer, part-time position in which you'll help manage the day-to-day operations of this community. No experience is required, and most of the work is not too different from your regular experience of browsing Reddit. Unless you decide to help out with larger, optional behind-the-scenes projects, anyway. ;)

How much time do I need to commit?

We get it, life is busy. We do expect you to check in every once in a while to help out, but you'll set your own "hours". As we're fond of saying, real life always comes first! That being said, it would probably only be slightly more time than you already spend on Reddit as is.

How do I know if I'm selected?

We will go through applications on a rolling basis and will reach out to you if selected! Many people do not handle rejection well, so we do not generally send out notices that you were not selected. If you were not selected in a previous year's hiring round, you are still welcome to try applying again this year!

Please do note that all mods we "hire" start out on a temporary trainee basis to test if they're a good fit and learn the ropes first before they become a full mod.

Where do I apply?

Right here! It should only take about 10-15 minutes to do so.

What if I have a question?

You can ask in the comments below or write to us via modmail, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you all, but especially to those who apply! 😄

Eurovision Asia Australia’s SBS 🇦🇺 will air Eurovision Asia with Courtney Act commentary

Australians, for once, will be watching Eurovision at a decent time (midnight, apparently?).

Side note: for a broadcaster who isn’t eligible to compete in the Asia edition, I’m surprised they bought the rights to air it.

Side note: with Courtney Act as the commentator, it's safe to assume Eurovision Asia is gonna be fully in English. Which isn’t surprising, since they do that in the OG Eurovision, but it would’ve been nice to have it in the host country’s language, too.

💬 Discussion What are the rules towards words or lyrics with a normal-controversial double meaning?

To clarify, like in one culture, the word could be completely normal for one country but maybe pretty offensive or a swear word in another?

I just wonder because I'm sure they don't want to offend anyone, especially with broadcast rules, but they might not want to censor, which could be a normal word.

I just came across a tiktok video of like a Filipino and Latino couple, saying the word 6 which is a rice cake in the Philippines, but apparently the father was so shocked when was being said.

That video was kore educational and didn't get much backlash so maybe it'd be okay?

I also remember another word, which is "konyo," tho it does have a different spelling in Spanish. It just means an English or English leaning speaker for us. Then on the other side is a swear word

So I wonder how much they'd allow it. Cuz also if considering many more might consider it "bad words" with the bigger Spanish audience compared to Filipino language. I'm guessing it also depends on the language I guess.

Let me explain better: why is Eurovision 2026 still being billed as "Malta 2026" and not "Ta'Qali 2026", as happened with "Tbilisi 2025" or "Madrid 2024"?

I met Kerli (Estonia NF 2004 and 2017, also Sweden 2003) in 2011.

Eurovision Asia 🇲🇳 Mongolia's Eurovision Asia entry, 'Light' by Beck, has seemingly been available online since 2018

Thumbnail instagram.com
213 Upvotes

(as far as i can tell, the eurovision discord's social media accounts are reliable sources. if not or if i've cited in the wrong way, feel free to delete this post, mods 😅)

hey y'all, i've just received some breaking news regarding mongolia's eurovision asia song, 'light' by beck. to summarise here, especially in case any of y'all don't have instagram:

so, mongolia's chosen song for eurovision asia 2026, 'light' by beck, has seemingly been available online for over 8 years - it was first published in 2018 via the mongolian record label 'royal music production' on facebook. this is probably one of the most well known eurovision rules, but in case any of y'all don't already know, to be eligible to compete in eurovision, songs have to be original and can't have been released or performed publicly before a set date (i haven't seen a set date for eurovision asia, but there surely is one).

this is still new info, so i haven't seen any further updates regarding what's gonna happen to the song or mongolia's participation in eurovision asia, but what's probably gonna happen is either mongolia will have to select a new song or, worst case scenario, they get disqualified.

tldr: mongolia's eurovision asia song, 'light' by beck, has been publicly available via facebook since 2018.

📊 Results / Statistics How countries cheated/voted suspiciously at Eurovision in the 1990s and early 2000s - summary

Once there was an interview with the former Icelandic HoD, who mentioned "southern countries" offering him swapping votes in the mid-1990s. In fact, there was a group of countries that particularly favoured each other between 1994 and the introduction of compulsory televoting in 2003/2004.

How come no one noticed? I think the EBU must have seen that. Here's my summary of what I think was a very clear voting pact.

The countries of interest are: Malta, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Romania, Slovakia, Spain and Turkiye + in the early 2000s also FYR Macedonia (now North Macedonia), Russia and Cyprus.

1994: Malta gave 12 points to Slovakia, who got also 7 from Greece and came 19th with 19 points. In return, Slovakia gave 10 to Malta & 12 to Croatia (who got also 10 from Malta and 5 from Greece, ending up 16th with 27 points). Romania got 12 of its 14 points from Malta and Greece / Spain got 15 of its 17 points from Greece, Romania and Slovakia / and Bosnia got 26 of its 39 points from Slovakia, Malta, Spain and Croatia.

Eurovision 1994 was won by Ireland with record-breaking 226 points. Their 3 worst scores were... 0 from Greece, 5 from Malta and 6 from Slovakia. The runner-up was Poland with 166 points and their lowest scores were among others: 0 from Greece and Spain, 2 from Malta, 4 from Slovakia.

If you removed these countries' votes, Malta would've gone down from 5th to 9th, while Croatia and Slovakia would've gone down from 16th and 19th to a shared 22nd place with 0 points.

All a coincidence?

Let's check 1995: Malta got 12s from Bosnia and Croatia, and 10s from Spain and Turkiye. In return, they gave 12 to Croatia, 10 to Greece, 8 to Spain, 7 to Turkiye. / Spain - the runner-up of the show - got 10 from Croatia and 8s from Bosnia, Malta and Turkiye, giving back 12 to Croatia, 10 to Malta and 8 to Greece.

If you removed all these countries' points, the changes would've been: Spain down from 2nd to 5th, Croatia from 6th to 11th, Malta from 10th to 13th, Turkiye from 16th to 18th, Bosnia from 19th to 20th.

In 1996 everyone was welcome in a qualifiers round before the live show. The trend obviously repeated itself. Malta's voting was: 12 - Austria, 10 - Slovakia, 8 - Spain, 7 - Turkiye, 6 - Romania, 5 - Greece, 4 - Cyprus, 3 - UK, 2 - Bosnia, 1 - Croatia... In return, Malta received 12 points from Spain, Romania and Slovakia, 10 points from Croatia (12 went to Slovakia) and 7 points from Cyprus, Greece and Turkiye. You can check the rest.

Had their votes been cancelled, the EBU would have likely avoided the big fiasco of losing Germany in the qualifiers. Germany and Russia (after a tie with Denmark) would have qualified to the live show instead of Spain and Slovakia, who instead of 17th would've come 29th (last).

1996 final also included this group's voting trend. Without their votes in the final ranking, Croatia would have fallen from 4th down to 9th and Malta from 10th to 16th. On the other hand, Finland would've gone up from last to 17th, leaving Bosnia at the very bottom.

It all happened again in 1997 - the final year the juries decided on more than 50% of scoring.

From 1994 to 1997 these 8 countries gave the most points to:

  1. Malta - 236

  2. Ireland - 183

  3. Cyprus - 132

  4. Croatia - 128

  5. Spain - 125

  6. UK - 116

  7. Turkiye - 108

  8. Greece - 95

  9. Austria - 81

  10. Bosnia - 69

All the remaining participants however only have Malta in their top 10 most-voted nations, at 9th with 209 points. Very inconsistent, isn't it?

From 1998 on televoting was the deafult method, with juries serving as a back-up or the official method in cases of televoting being technically impossible.

The weird trend came back in 2000.

Russia got 12 points from Malta as well as Croatia, Cyprus and Macedonia all of whom gave 8s to Malta.

Macedonia got 100% of its final result from Croatia, Cyprus, Russia and Romania who themselves only got points from Croatia, Macedonia (12) and Russia.

It's unclear what voting method was used by Croatia, but we can guess... The scoring was: 12 - Russia, 10 - Macedonia, 8 - Malta, 7 - Romania.

In 2001 and 2002 it was allowed by the EBU to use a 50:50 system, later used from 2009. At Eurovision 2001 Croatia managed to finish 10th, but 34 of their 42 points came from... Bosnia, Greece, Malta and Turkiye - all of them at least partly used a jury. This all ended after the 2002 contest, where televoting had only about 65% influence on the points. One of the HoDs reportedly alarmed OGAE and the EBU itself about a pact offer from Cyprus and soon a compulsory televoting was introduced.

What do you think? Do you have any sources other than official results to confirm this likely unfairness? I think it genuinely is a historic proof that the EBU has always been reluctant to act in cases of possible cheating. I'm disappointed with how they handle voting at Eurovision nowadays, but not surprised after how they acted for example during the 2013 Azerbaijan scandal...
