Looking for a signature scent, or a new scent for the season? Need suggestions of scents to try? Wanting to round out your collection?

Need shopping advice? Trying to decide between two fragrances? Searching for "the best" of anything? Looking for a gift for someone?

Wondering what to wear to school, to work, on a date, or for a special occasion?

This is the place to ask those questions.

Tell us what you want the fragrance to smell like. You can list notes, styles, or the names of other fragrances that you like or don't like.

Without this information you are unlikely to get any recommendations.

Other information that may be helpful -- your country/region, your budget, some description of the person who will be wearing the perfume.

___________

When can you ask these questions in your own post?

  • If you aren't getting suggestions, your request may be too vague. If you’ve tried your best and didn’t hear back after 24 hours, make a new post outside the daily thread. Be sure to mention that you already posted in the daily thread and didn't get a response.
  • If your question is about clones, layering, or some very unusual note, you can choose to skip the queue and post directly to the front page.
  • If your question is about sex appeal, batch variations, performance, or wearing perfume marketed to another gender, keep it off the main feed and in the comments section only.

Coming back to discuss hits and misses is a great way to show appreciation when you get advice here. Consider posting a review or starting a discussion about the perfumes that you tried, and tell us what you ultimately chose.

Discussion How do you deal with the scent of a loved one who passed linger on their things?

My dad passed away a while ago, and his dresser still has a few things sitting on it like he’s just walking back into the room. The hardest thing to touch is his half empty bottle of cologne.

Every time I clean around it, I catch myself staring at the glass. It feels so wrong that plastic, glass, and liquid can just sit there completely unchanged, while the person who actually filled the room is gone. Sometimes I want to open it just to feel close to him for a second, but other times I'm terrified that if the scent ever fades or gets weak, it'll feel like losing him all over again.

How do you guys handle the physical traces they left behind? Do you keep their signature scent locked away where you can't smell it, or do you let yourself revisit it?

The weirdest compliments you have received on your fragrance

Okay I know we all love getting compliments on our scents. It's validation for our good taste right? But sometimes I get some truly bizarre compliments that leave me scratching my head. Like the time someone told me I smelled like a 'fancy old library' when I was wearing a fruity floral. Or when my grandma said I smelled like 'clean attic dust'. What are some of the strangest compliments or comments you've gotten on your fragrance?

What fragrance notes do you find surprisingly comforting?

We often talk about notes we love because they smell good or are unique. But what about those notes that just hit different emotionally? For me it's anything with a really strong, authentic tea note. It just instantly makes me feel cozy and safe. What are yours?

Discussion Fragrances that were so unpopular they were quietly pulled from stores?

I recently visited a Dior boutique and noticed that New Look was conspicuously absent from their private line.

When I asked a sales associate about it, he didn’t exactly mince words. He described the fragrance as smelling like a cleaning product, but somehow still dirty. What really caught my attention, though, was when he mentioned that their boutique hadn’t sold a single bottle of it and that the fragrance had effectively been phased out of their physical retail selection (but maybe available online).

I found this particularly interesting considering how much attention New Look received upon its release, especially as one of Kurkdjian’s more experimental creations for Dior.

It got me wondering: Have any of you encountered fragrances that were so poorly received that boutiques quietly stopped carrying them? Not necessarily discontinued fragrances, but ones that seemingly failed to find an audience despite the brand’s efforts to market them.

I’d be especially curious to hear stories from people who’ve worked in fragrance retail!

Discussion Dupe for Elizabeth & James Nirvana Rose?

• Upvotes

Bottles of this discontinued fragrance are getting harder and harder to find… but I’ve not found a replacement! So many rose perfumes are too sweet or include gourmand notes - nirvana rose is woodsy with vetiver and geranium and I just love it. Anyone have a dupe to suggest?

Is this even real? Guerlain Tonka Impériale available for sale on website? 🥹

Years later, I still hadn’t managed to process the pain of this fragrance being discontinued. To my great surprise, I discovered on the Guerlain website that Tonka Impériale is available once again, presented in a bee bottle. I truly never expected this to happen. Can anyone confirm if this is correct? I see it’s available in 125, 250 and 500 ml. It’s not immediately visible on their main website, but it does appear in Google search results. I hope this brings joy to many others as well! I couldn’t be happier than this if it’s real. This is the link where I found it: https://www.guerlain.com/nl/nl-nl/p/lart-la-matiere-tonka-imperiale-eau-de-parfum-7429006776.html

REVIEW Hermann A Mes Cotes by ELdO & Marseille by CdG - Masterpieces by Quentin Bisch!

My final purchases of 2026 (if I stick to my guns), and I love them dearly!

I’ve sniffed quite a few of Quentin Bisch’s fragrances before coming across these (with Ganymede being in my top 3), and I found my myself noting these as ‘favs to revisit’ during my ScentBar visit a few months ago, before even knowing he was responsible for their creation. Crazy. Now with these two moving up my all-time favorites list, as far as my nose is concerned, he doesn’t miss.

Hermann A Mes Cotes Me Paraissait Une Ombré by Etat Libre d’Orange -

What a mysterious, moody, simultaneously dry & wet, fresh & earthy fragrance this is. There’s something nostalgic about it for me too. I can’t place it exactly, but there’s a mix of dusty antique store and wet garden in here. Just can’t get enough.

Marseille by Comme De Garçons -

THE soapy-clean musk for me. I don’t know if anything will ever beat it. I’ve loved other soapy-clean laundry-like scents like Ghost In The Shell, Lavande 31, and Lazy Sunday Morning, but this tops them all for me.
There’s also something reminiscent of the inside of a Payless Shoe Source, which was a scent I’ve been searching for forever (including suggestions on Reddit), and this gets closest to what I was looking for.

VERY happy with these purchases! What are going to be your end-of-year buys?

Boadicea discount code not working

Have tried so many ways to get my first order 10% off to work, is anyone else having problems or is it just me?

Somehow got it to accept it the other day and then decided to take a duplicate out of my basket, went back and the code stopped working, have tried adding the item back to see if it's a spend requirement but no, really stumped and dying to make my first order

I've tried incognito tabs, making a new account, trying on a different device on fresh email and everything, but nothing.

Any help appreciated

Edikted store signature scent

Does anyone know what scent is used in Edikted stores? I’ve only ever been to the one at the MOA in MN, but the whole store smells so good! Just curious if it’s a perfume that can be bought or some kind of room spray?

Frequently Discussed Topic Underwhelming fragrances

Have you ever had a perfume that you've heard from everyone about how good it is. only to realise it smells mediocre or even bad when you smell it in person? For me, it was the JPG Le Male, it's so hyped online, people talk about how many compliments they get, but I finally tried a sample in store and it was incredibly mediocre.

This might get controversial but it's just my opinion haha

REVIEW Tree of Tuba Arcturus and Amjad Honour by Faan

Received both of these this morning before Friday prayers. I have a sample of outlands to compare directly. Arcturus hits your hand with a thud, dense. Extremely close to outlands with a tea/ tobacco ish note. Thank you to whoever recommended this on reddit 🙏. I would call this a divine elevating scent. It reminds me of an old family run spice shop with big sacks of spices and on the side they sell some homemade soap. Surviving and progressing through generations without compromising traditional values.

Only negative was that communication was absent, despite reaching out a couple of times regarding postage.

Amjad honour is a giant bottle of outlands but toned down, suitable for daily wear in this climate. Will probably be less cloying in the heat as well. Im enjoying frankincense, myrrh type of fragrance.

Discussion Partner told me Häxan by Heretic smelled like I spilled pickles on myself

I am absolutely gooped. I think Häxan is such a beautiful witchy scent, intoxicatingly floral with the rose and osmanthus, with a deep resinous base. It made me feel incredible to wear, but without fail, every time I have, my partner mentions I smell pickle-y. I don't smell it! At all! But I'm terrified now that other people might think I've spilled pickle juice on myself when I think I'm serving goddess, lol.

Wood/resinous scents are my favorite and I haven't had this reaction with any other fragrance in my collection. Do I continue wearing Häxan just for me, knowing I might be perceived pickle-y? 😭

Do you have any perfumes that transformed for the worse on you?

Discussion Gentle Fluidity Gold- worth the Money?

My fellow Perfume lovers,

Has anyone tried GFG by MFK? I went to the Store to try it. Everyone and their Mama on social media was like ,it’s the Most beautiful, soft vanilla ive ever smelt‘.
When I smelled it, My First reaction was that something smells off. It got better and better over time. In the end I actually liked it after it got weaker. But I don’t think it’s a ,soft’ vanilla, the vanilla was actually kind of strong in my nose. But that’s just me.

What do you guys think of this perfume? Do you like it? Would you say it’s worth the hype and Money?

Thank u!!

Discussion Honey, Tonka, Powdery Fragrances of the mid to late 90's

Hoping to find a fragrance that my mother's friend used to wear. I just got a sample of Tonka Bodycon and What we do in Paris is Secret and they both immediately reminded me of her and the fragrance she used to wear. She was a wealthy Persian woman, it smelled incredible on her and the sillage was intoxicating. Any idea what it might have been?

Discussion What niche scents actually smell like the thing they’re named after?

I’m a fan of niche fragrances, but I’ve noticed that a lot of them are more made to fit a vibe than to actually smell like the thing they’re named after. They’ll be named things like “Old Bike in A Shed” but it’ll smell like cucumbers or something.

My favorite fragrance is Warm Bulb by Clue because it smells exactly as described. Like a hot incandescent light bulb sitting over top of old paper. Do you know of any other scents that are true to name like this?

REVIEW Diptyque fragrance consultation in London

I came in for a fragrance consultation, booked by my husband for my 42nd birthday. I was quite curious as to how it was going to be and what it was going to entail, but I’m always happy to spend time in Diptyque, so I was excited!

\*Full disclosure: I have multiple Diptyque scents already, but I was asked to keep the names to myself for the process.\*

I arrived early and spent some time browsing around, while they finished setting up. I was led into a room at the very back of the shop and introduced to the kindest employee. He offered me a drink from their current water bar collab and explained the process to me.

First I was shown five different mood boards and asked to choose the individual photos that I liked and the mood board I was more drawn to.

Then I was presented with 20 different words and asked to choose the words I liked and associated with scent.

Finally we went through 20 different fragrance notes, where I said everything that came to mind while smelling them and ultimately rated each note 1-10. This was such a fun experience. Scent has so many connotations to me, of places, of people, of moods. Amazing! The employee took notes throughout the process and as we were done, he went to pick out some scents for me. He came back with 5 samples, 2 of which he was certain I already owned, solely based on our conversation. He was right - I do in fact own l’eau papier and Do So. The other scents, Benjoin Boheme and Lunamaris among others, have been on my wishlist forever. How cool is that?! It was such a validating experience, because personally I sometimes wonder if I get caught up in the storytelling and the brand when buying perfumes, rather than follow my nose. Turns out I actually like what I like!

We went upstairs, I was given the opportunity to try 4 scents on my skin, and we toured the amazing space while Caleb told me the history of the brand, which was far more intriguing than I thought it would be. In the end, I ended up buying Benjoin Boheme. I have been wanting it for years and seeing as the £170 consultation was redeemable during my visit, it seemed as good a time as any. I was given 4 samples, a birthday candle and had my bottle engraved. These were some of the best 2 hours I have ever spent in a retail space and I can’t believe how attentive the staff were and how luxurious it all felt. I found myself doubting that I had understood the redeemable part correctly and thinking it was still worth it!

TL;DR I can not recommend this enough - it was such a treat. Do it, if you’re ever in London!

Discussion Kilian Roses on Ice - cucumber scent?

Hey, guys. I’m a man who loves fragrances where cucumber is the dominant note. I’ve been considering Kilian Roses on Ice. Does it genuinely smell like cucumber? Does it have good projection and long-lasting performance?

Frequently Discussed Topic Questions about jomashop

So I’m just trying to get deeper into colognes and alternatives. I see a lot about jomashop being good, but what should I expect about their shipping? I’ve seen a lot of people say it takes forever even if it says “in stock” where others say it ships within 2 days if it does. If it says within 1-3 weeks then wait for months. Any personal experiences appreciated🙏

Australians who have purchased from Mecca am I wrong about this?

I tried to purchase a Frédéric Malle fragrance today.
The employee went to the back to see if there was stock, she was at the back for 10 minutes. Comes back and says yeah one left. Goes to the fridge, gets a bottle that’s out of its packaging and says we package on site.
I wanted a sealed bottle, so I declined. They looked at me like I was crazy. I just think possibly someone or a shopper could have easily opened the fridge and sprayed it. Was I right to decline?
