The Piemaker
Feeling nostalgic on a Saturday evening. Does anyone else miss The Piemaker? Pure comfort food, especially for this time of year. Never understood why it closed.

In the time between when this was first posted 20 mins ago and my sharing it, they raised the price from €300/week to €350/week.
~€1400 a month to live in someone's shed over an hour's drive from the city. Insanity.

Im so tired of seeing endless negativity on this sub. Yes, we absolutely need a better government and urban planning, but what do you guys like about this city-suburb?

I am a solo M traveler and have a free weekend after a work trip in Dublin in early December. I’ve been to Ireland a few times, and have seen quite a lot, but have somehow not managed to get to the Aran Islands yet. I have experienced December in Ireland, including the weather and the limited amount of daylight, and I’m comfortable with both.
Still, I’m wondering if it will be worthwhile to visit Galway and Inis Mor during this time? I’d likely take a train to Galway from Dublin and then the ferry, and have from Friday morning until my departure flight leaves Dublin Monday afternoon. I imagine I’d plan to stay one night on Inis Mor and have some flexibility in timing in case the ferry schedule needs adjusting.
I don’t anticipate visiting Ireland at a better time of year in the foreseeable future, so think this might be the time to go. I definitely just want to see Inis Mor, explore normal tourist stuff and enjoy the atmosphere/culture of the place.
What do you think? Will it be worth it? Will enough be open on the island? Or should I hope I can make it back during spring/summer/fall?
Anything else I should consider for this trip?

Really trying this just on the off chance that someone here is living in this estate. For the best part of a year we have been terrorised by a small dog constantly barking.
It sounds like a small terrier or something and has a distinctive double bark. It’s normally barking all through the day and sometimes really early in the morning (like 6am). Generally always we get woken up by it at around 8am every weekend. I work nights and it is seriously impacting my sleep.
Now I know what you’re thinking.. go to the house and tell the owner that they need to control their dog. However it is near impossible to pinpoint what house this is coming from just because of the way the back gardens are laid out. I know it’s within a few houses on the same block as a certain one that burned down in August but still can’t figure out which one.
If anyone here lives in the area and knows what I’m talking about, where the dog lives or if the owners have already been contacted, it would be great to know. I can’t be the only one who’s been disturbed by this. It’s definitely been going on for a year now and whoever the owner is seems like a selfish prick who should not have a dog.

As long as I can remember I always curious on what was behind these gates.
Looks like either a park or old stately home, but as these are not ever open I can't help but wonder

Bohermore's all blocked off by the Gards. Some lad in an apartment having a breakdown doing all kinds of shit.
Another lad drove into the McDonald's Headford road drive thru crashing the car.
Edit: McDonald's*

Old house, looking to move away from oil - can anyone recommend a Galway city area company to talk to about getting heat pump or something applicable. Zero idea about any of this, just want a company that are easy to deal with and professional and will recommend the best approach.

Hi, I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has experience with air-to-water heating systems, particularly in older houses in Ireland or council retrofit schemes.
My house is council owned. Before any of the judgement- I am very aware that I am very lucky to be in the position I’m in. I’ve lived at this property my whole life and was lucky enough to be granted tenancy due to personal circumstances.
I have recently been approached by the council regarding retrofitting the property and installing air to water, and whether I would like to go ahead with it. For the moment I have said yes but I’m seeing a lot of mixed reviews and was hoping somebody may be able to share their experience?
I don’t currently know anybody who has air to water and I’m a bit worried that I might regret opting in.
At the moment there is central heating and two solid fuel methods of heating the house. I have been advised that going ahead with air to water would mean that the chimneys would be sealed, so fires would no longer be an option and air to water will be the only source of heating at the property.
I have been advised that retrofitting will include, new doors, windows, radiators etc.
If you do have Air to water, where did they place the indoor boiler unit? They have mentioned placing it in the kitchen, but I do have a larger hot-press space which may be more convenient?
Just looking for anyone’s experience regarding air to water and whether you would recommend it? Plus any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know what's going on at the top of Prospect Hill?
It's cordoned off with tape and a few squad cars and Gardai around. A bit of a crowd gathered too.
All traffic is diverted down to forster court.

hi, I left my car parked for about half an hour, the meter said not in service. I had previously tried to download the parking app but my phone is old and I was unable to download it, I don’t know if it was because the internet wasn’t strong enough but it was taking ages. I took a chance and left the car and got a ticket. has anyone had any luck in not having to pay the fine? I would have put money into the meter or used my card had the meter been working.

Galway has the population of a large town, the infrastructure of a village and the traffic of London.
The roads are a mess, public transport is patchy, housing is a disaster, and half the county has to drive everywhere because there’s 0 alternatives, maybe really late buses.
But sure, we’ve cobblestone streets and a few pubs, so apparently we’re one of Europe’s great cities.
Am I missing something, or is Galway massively overrated?

Just writing this on a bus, stuck in dire traffic ranting,I suppose we only get so many hours on this earth and I can't help but feel I'm wasting my time in this city
UPDATE, I actually just got off the bus and walked the last 20 mins, roads were gridlocked, was ten mins late for work

Random one here. Does anyone have a claddagh ring from Thomas Dillon’s? Can you take a picture of the hallmarks? The small ones? I have one but the hallmarks show as anchor which is the Birmingham assay office mark. All Irish precious metals are meant to be stamped by the Dublin Assay Office which has a different mark (harp/woman playing harp). However, I read somewhere that Thomas Dillon as the original maker was able to retain the original Galway mark which was also an anchor (similar to Birmingham). For context: picture attached.
