*NEW* Account age requirement

Hey everyone! Mods here. We have made a small change to the subreddit: accounts now need to be at least 90 days old to post or comment. This change was made because we have been absolutely inundated with AI slop accounts for the last few months. We’re really sorry if this is frustrating for anyone who is a real person with a new account who just genuinely wants to participate. We appreciate your understanding, and are so thankful for everyone who contributes and makes this such a fun little corner of the internet.

General Discussion Lane’s irl age is actually closer to Lorelai’s than to Rory’s.

Post image
258 Upvotes

For those who don’t know, Keiko Agena is only 6 years younger than Lauren Graham, and 8 years older than Alexis, IRL, making her already in her late 20s early 30s during the early seasons of the show. I know adults playing high schoolers is nothing new, but usually you can tell. Keiko did such a phenomenal job fitting right in.

I just learned that this actress, who plays the character of "Bernadette", a Chilton student in this short scene (Those Are Strings, Pinocchio), is Samantha Weil, the IRL sister of Liza Weil aka Paris Geller!

I never realized it before now, but they look and sound really similar. 🤯

General Discussion Coffee experts, how good was the fictional coffee served on the show?

Seeing how important coffee was in the show, I can't help but wonder how good the brew served in Stars Hollow actually was.

I've known people who work so hard at making excellent coffee. They take a ton of time sourcing quality beans. They roast the beans themselves. They have these fancy machines that I can't even begin to understand.

It doesn't seem like anyone on the show puts that much thought or care into their coffee. Luke uses a drip machine with regular filters you buy at Costco. Sookie never talks about it at all. No one ever talks about the darkness of the roasts, or how they ground the beans. No one talks about where the beans come from, or if they have any hints of chocolate or hazelnut whatever from the roasting process.

What's strange is that given the quirks of Stars Hollow, you'd think this would be a passion project for someone.

I admit, I personally don't know much about coffee myself, so I wanted to put it out there.

Am I being too snobby? Do you think the people in Stars Hollow were actually drinking great coffee? Or was it just passable stuff they thought was good?

Character Discussion - General New watcher opinion on Luke and Lorelei

Post image
183 Upvotes

I am a brand new watcher on season 4.. I don't dislike Luke's character at all but I feel absolutely no true sexual tension between him and Lorelei. I think they make perfect friends and dare I say they even kinda seem like siblings to me sometimes.

Our town does a fall festival every year and for the last couple of years the local bakery does a fun event. Line was out the door. I tried to get as many pictures as I could without being weird.

General Discussion Dean really is something…

This is my first time watching this show and I just started season five and wow season 4 was all the mess I could’ve asked for. However Dean really has some nerve telling his wife that she doesn’t respect him after coming home late from CHEATING😭

Can I also say I hate the way he raises his voice at the women he’s with especially when no else was yelling. Idk I’m personally big on tone so it triggers me, I didn’t like it when he was 16 but I realllly don’t like it at 19. The marriage in general was very stupid but it kinda makes sense that he would since it seemed like he was looking to follow in his parents footsteps.

Also I kinda hate the way they’ve been framing Dean as this amazing guy who Rory let get away. What she did to him was horrible yes and he was a good boyfriend but idk he’s just a man🤷🏽‍♀️I don’t even hate Dean I actually always fall for his and Rory’s chemistry but now poor girl is a mistress and I fear it’s so insane it’s comical😭

Picture 2026 Ornament

The photo is hard to take because the ornament is holographic. I was pleasantly surprised that it talks when you push the button. I honestly thought it was just a photo on TV. Expensive for what it is, but I had credits built up on Hallmark. I love it. The purple line through the middle is a reflection.

Character Discussion - General Christopher has "people crushing money", but not "buying Rory a condo in New Haven" money

Rory bounces between so many living situations once she goes to Yale. You'd think when Christopher finally decides he wants to be there for Rory as a provider & father, that he'd buy/rent her a place near school so she didn't have to live in a shady place with Paris or move in (then out, then back in) with Logan.

I know, just one more way in which Christopher was a failure, but this one felt so obvious!

General Discussion Yale to Florida is not a quick drive, right?

I’m not an American. Im watching them drive from Yale to Florida for spring break and I’m wondering what the timing was like for their drive? Did they drive through the night? How does Paris not look exhausted? According to Google maps, it’s an 18 hour drive! It’s things like this that make shows less realistic than they already are! Keen to know if anyone has ever done such a long drive? Is this kind of trip normal for Americans?
Thanks

OS Discussion Overused/ repeatedly used names/things

- Francine

- Cornish game hen (Emily's opinion on them also changes 180)

- Paella ( "why people still insist on serving paella is beyond me" *serves paella at FND)

- Condoleeza Rice (is she supposed to be a strange person, I'm not American, the postbox, the masks)

- Linny (Linny Lott, Linnie the therapist)

ETA : Mencken's Chrestomathy. They've gotten excited over seeing it in multiple episodes. Do they just get excited and forget to see it?

I'm sure there are more but I'm forgetting. Any that bother you?

Character Discussion - General TIL Who This Actress Is🤯

This is the actress, Maybin Hewes. In this episode (Rory's Dance), she says the line, "Oh my god! It's Lorelei's girl!" Listed in credits as Yoga Woman #1

She is Amy Sherman-Palladino's mom IRL!!!

She also appears in an episode of Bunheads and an episode The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Did anyone else know this?

OS Discussion Jess had less screen time when he was in a relationship with Rory

This makes no sense to me. When Jess and Rory weren’t together but in that flirty/I can’t date because I already have a partner stage, we had plenty of scenes with Jess. But when they finally got together, I feel like they cut down Jess’ screen time?? We have very few scenes with the both of them and even then, they are short scenes. He’s not as omnipresent as Dean was. Sometimes we don’t see him for a whole episode, or even several episodes. It’s really frustrating because I thought Rory and Jess had a really interesting story line :/

OS Discussion If Jess never came to stars hollow, how long would Rory and Dean lasted?

Bc I think they would’ve broken up eventually but maybe later.

I feel like they would have lasted throughout highschool but broken up Rory’s first year of college when she started meeting new guys and spending more time studying. Dean would’ve gotten jealous and ended it. I could see him being jealous of Marty.

If not then, then 100% once she met Logan.

Also I don’t think the affair would’ve ever happened. He wouldn’t have dated Lindsay and then married her.

General Discussion Rory and Lorelai’s morning routine makes no sense

I know that this isn’t important to the plot but Rory and Lorelai’s morning routine makes no sense. If Rory is in high school, her classes probably start at 7:45 AM at the latest. She tells Dean that it takes her 45 minutes to travel by bus to Chilton, meaning she’d have to get to the bus stop by 7:00 AM. But if she needs to be there by 7:00 AM, and it takes her 30 minutes to get ready for school (and that’s a generous time constraint, considering time to shower, pack her backpack, etc.) she would have to wake up at 6:30. Most episodes she and lorelai go to Luke’s before school, meaning there’s extra time she needs to walk to Luke’s and eat there. It seems like Rory would have to wake up at like 5:00-5:30 AM just to fit everything in and get to school on time, but we never see them waking up that early (it’s always light outside when they’re walking to Luke’s). If anything, the show makes it clear that Rory and Lorelai love to sleep in and that Lorelai especially isn’t a morning person.

Character Discussion - General To whom it may concern…

The letter that Lorelei wrote to Luke’s lawyer as a character reference. Chris got annoyed, angry and left because he was offended she might have deep feelings for him. Why was he not bothered about him being a father figure in Rory’s life and that Lorelei wrote that over any damn other thing in the letter. Why can’t he ever take accountability and be Rory’s dad without trying to always win Lorelei over. Uggghhhg…….. sometimes I just want to get into the screen and yell at him to grow a paternal bone for his first child.

OS Discussion Taylor's Ye Olde Soda Shoppe

I think, anal as Taylor is, anything he does will actually be pretty close to perfect. I'd love to eat at his shop(pe). I think he'd make sure the flavours and the presentation were perfect (with a Taylor tip) and that the ambience was great too.

I wouldn't mind being a tenant either, though he might skimp out on certain expensive landlord duties.

What do you think?

OS Discussion Mad at the parents

The way both Emily and Richard talk about Luke during season 5 is so infuriating.

They belittle him and almost treat him like a caveman, when he's not only successful but ACTUALLY QUITE WEALTHY(???

He gave Lorelai the 30k she needed, he bought the building where Doose made his candyshop.

He is from a working class background, but he's a fully made businessman that is aware of many stuff Lorelai is oblivious about.

Idk, I hated that

Revival Discussion How do you think everyone will react to being mentioned in Rory's book?

I was rewatching the scene where Rory tells Dean she's going to mention him in her book, and he seems pretty okay with it. It got me thinking about how everyone else who's been part of Rory's life might react.

We've already seen Lorelai's reaction, and Jess and Logan know Rory is writing the book and don't seem to have a problem with it. Although actually reading how Rory sees them might give them something to think about. Christopher didn't seem too happy about it, but who cares? I'm more curious about everyone else.

I can imagine Paris demanding to read a draft first to make sure any character even vaguely based on her meets her standards. I also can't see her being too happy about Rory mentioning her crush on Tristan, even under pseudonyms.

Emily, as much as she's grown in AYITL, would probably react a lot like Lorelai, wondering why Rory would want to write about things like sleeping with a married boyfriend or Richard having lunch with his ex once a year.

Lane probably wouldn't care much, as long as Rory gets her music taste right. Mrs. Kim would insist that Rory gets the religious stuff right.

Sookie would tell Rory she's remembering what they ate on some particular day all wrong. She clearly served something else.

Luke would pretend he doesn't care, but he'd read the whole thing and get emotional over what Rory wrote about him.

Taylor would want to make sure every detail about Stars Hollow mentioned in the book is historically accurate. He'd probably have a million opinions.

Shira would absolutely lose it if Rory mentioned the argument between her and Emily at the DAR event.

Do you think any minor character might react like the ballerina and completely freak out over how they're portrayed?

Revival Discussion A year in the life

Rewatching for the 2nd time. I didnt find it too bad the first time, and just wanted to rewatch to see if it is actually as bad as I see people post on here!

Tell me why in episode 3, an entire 10 minutes is dedicated just for that god awful musical?!😭

I remember hating it the first time, I had to skip the 2nd time and thought id take note of how long it goes on.

10 minutes?! Why?!😭

Revival Discussion What is something you wish we saw in the revival that maybe would have made it better?

I’ll start:
I would have loved to see Jess apologise for leaving Rory all those years ago without a word. I think that is one of the most terrible things that happened to Rory, I can’t even imagine the hurt. Jess comes back and tells her he loves her after she repeatedly states he never called, he never said anything and never gave an explanation, so just saying I love you doesn’t mean he’s apologising.
Years later the adult and matured version of Jess should have brought it up and owned his mistakes and then taken Rory out for dinner, doesn’t have to be in a romantic way but just as friends to make up for how bad he treated her and never taking her out to a nice place. I think that would have brought closure for both the audience and them.
I would also have loved to see more or Jess and Rory’s adult friendship in the revival.
