serious hot take The dehumanization of babies and the humanization of pets is horrible

I’ve heard people say that they would save their dog over a Random baby and that is insane. This even extends to the Clancy case where people are supporting a woman who MURDERED her 3 kids. People also calling their pets their “kids” is weird as shit. People are crazy and the world is going to shit

Exactly. I hate this argument so much. Like why cant we do both. Yes I agree the anti children rhetoric is getting out of control, Im not disputing that. But it doesn't mean I want to be in a world that mistreats animals more in order to have more respect for babies.

Hate to say it but I have heard people irl make the same argument. They complain that society used to have more respect for kids and blame pet owners for humanising their kids more. I just don't understand how the two are related? Its just objectively wrong too because laws are still being enacted to protect children more. They should just admit that they dislike animals. Also I hate to point this out but nothing says that we respect children more when you only go to prison for the cruel murder of one. (Exceptions are if its someone elses pet and then of course you can be charged).

I also don't understand the narrative that society used to respect kids more. Like I'm not that old and I still remember the days of "children should be seen, not heard" and cutting your own switch from a tree in the back when you were bad. I feel like this is the first time in history children are being given any semblance of autonomy and consent.

Exactly. I wasn't a genius or anything in high school, but reading history books clearly taught you that kids were not treated better back then. They were not even protected as much legally. Child labor laws were not a thing, if they were kidnapped it was dismissed as a runaway case, awareness of pedophilia and trafficking were not as widespread as it is now. I have even spoken to older people from the 50s and 60s and they mentioned how uncommon it was for kids to just disappear and not come back. The milk carton thing didn't become a thing until the 80s. Amber Alerts not until the 90s. Like seriously what are these people talking about...

Even now things are not as good as they should be, but its slowly but surely better than before.
