World Cup Prediction Game
Okay so I got bored at work and this is the outcome. This is purely for fun. If you do not enjoy this kind of game, please just skip it.
Now obviously it's a bit too early to really know who's going to the world cup but I think that's the fun in it. In June there's not gonna be too much uncertainty and surprise anymore.
Right now, the answers may differ a bit more.
Here's how to play:
Fill in the google form.
The first question is who do you think is going to the world cup.
There's a list of every player who has been called up/is currently associated with the senior lionesses.
Choose up to 26 options. I recommended doing exactly 26. Unfortunately I couldn't find an option to allow only 26 checks so you have to count yourself unfortunately.
Do not select more than 26 or you're disqualified!
Every correct choice gives you a point.
Correct choice is any player who will end up in the world cup squad. So yes results won't be out until next year wwc. Any player in the first squad that comes out counts, no last min injury replacements.
If you choose new player, you will get a point if ANY player who is not on the list, will be in the squad. If you choose New player 1-3 then you will get 3 points IF 3 players who's name is not on the list, make the squad.
Their name does not matter. Anyone counts as new who is not listed by name as any of the options above. A player who has previously been capped but is not in the question 1 list, will count as new player for the sake of this question.
You can choose up to 5 times the option new player.
Question 2:
Throw three random names out there of someone who could get a call up.
It has to be the full name.
You can nominate any player. If you need inspiration perhaps they currently play u23s or u20s or in the WSL.
No limits. You will get 5 points if you are correct and that player makes Sarina's squad.
Obviously no player who is mentioned in question 1 will count. It doesn't matter if they have previously been capped or not.
I encourage anyone to add names in this question, regardless if you voted new player in question 1.
The points are counted independently.
Question 3:
Name two players who will count as subs. Not sure what the right word would be.
Basically if any of your question 1 player is not going to the world cup injury related (long term injury or severe injury before the world cup) then you will get the full point if your sub choice is correct.
Long term effect from injury does not count. Neither do small niggles that players play through.
Example: before the 2023 world cup, you selected Leah Williamson as in the squad and katie zelem as sub, then you would get a point for that as Leah's absence was injury related. It does not matter if the player mentioned in sub was actually the replacement specifically for that person. With long term injuries there's no specific replacement anyways.
Just wanna counter for points lost through injury.
You can use any player you did NOT select in question 1 or any player from question 2.
If you enter more than 2 this question or more than 3 for question 2, you will not get any points.
How will it work?
After two weeks,
I will be posting how many people voted for each player if there is a minimum of 10 total responses. I will not be collecting any emails, just voluntary names in the last question.
It will be a fun statistic to look at others responses I think.
This will be a public reddit post.
It would contain information such as
Out of 20 votes:
19 voted Millie Bright
And
3 responses could see Sarina Wiegman be called up as a new player
...
Just general statistics
After the world cup, I will add points up to a leaderboard.
Please do include some sort of name as otherwise you won't be included.
Unfortunately I can not offer a physical price or money but I will give you a shout-out in the sub 😂
Nahh it's all for fun and games.
There will be leader board and honestly I think it would be fun to see who wins and how well you predict it compared to everyone else.
It's really just for the fun of it.
Friendly competition.
Think it could also be really fun to see for yourself how right or wrong you were a few months later.
I hope everything is clear and some people enjoy this!
