Good Vibes It's pretty awesome that finding love in a Finnish grocery store is apparently intentionally designed.

Where did you see them? I haven't. Maybe I am not paying attention.

Well not gonna disclose my location but a Citymarket near me has them for example. I think it depends on the manager of the store if they get them or not.

Not the same I think. In Finland it's owned by Kesko

[kesko] Idk the Finnish phonetics cant be really perfectly translated into English. If you speak Japanese/know how its spoken then its kinda close to [けすこ] (ke-su-ko) with the u in su silent.

This is something I noticed when learning Japanese is how much a lot of the phonetics sound so much like Finnish, with a few exceptions like ‘R’ which is very much on the opposite ends of the spectrum for both languages.

Knew a guy who was doing a PhD in how the phonetics of languages affect people's moods, specifically suicide rates, because Finnish and Japanese despite not being related have similar phonemes and high suicide rates, while other unrelated languages which have higher intonations have less. I don't know anything more than that but it's an interesting idea.

Definitely interesting. I know that both languages are considered some of the hardest to learn for foreigners (or at least native English speakers), and at least with Japanese it tends to lack…’expression’ (at least compared to English), though I don’t know if that’s the same for Finnish as well (as my Finnish sucks so I’m having to try relearn it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just one of those “correlation doesn’t imply causation” things given both countries have other reasons for unhappiness (Finland has long winters & highest unemployment rate in EU, and Japan has overworked employees, stigma around mental health, poor economy etc.).

Either way probably not the right sub for that kind of discussion lol.

I was in the Pori area last year but traveled around the west side often. Maybe I am also oblivious, but I never saw any of these.
