I've never heard of that and I've been in the bush my whole life.
Dogs are used to hunt pigs, by flushing them out of the brush where they can be shot or captured.
Kangaroos are fast as fuck, and live in the open, where they can already be shot from a distance and a dog will spook them to hop off into the distance at mach fuck.
There were dogs bred to hunt kangaroos, but once we got traybacks and rifles, that's all anyone uses.
I'm glad you haven't heard of it. It's pretty gross and hopefully the fact that you haven't heard of it means it's changing. It does happen - I've seen a lot of it. Hunting roos with dogs is illegal and dangerous, but people do it. It usually takes the form of some one shooting a roo, the roo being wounded, and then the shooter letting the dog off to catch the roo. This is usually done when shooting roos for dog meat.
Mostly people will use dogs they also use for pig hunting, which increases the likelihood of pig dogs chasing roos, which would be my guess of what's happening in this video, as this roo hasn't been shot. Also possible that the dog has gone after this roo after catching another etc. Though it is of course possible that this is just a pet dog that just randomly chased/ surprised a roo!
Either way... The roo is not the aggressor here. Roo is acting in self defence
That dog was a ridgeback wasn’t it? They are no joke - mad that it could control it like that. I’d have thought a ridgeback vs a Roo would end badly for the Roo but it seemed confused by being held by the collar as if by a person

Wait do kangaroos eat dogs?
