Slightly similar story, I was at a local event hosted by a farm that had a few workers from Mexico. One guy had okay English, and the rest have barely any at all and basically nod whenever dealing with event goers.

Walked by, said “Hola” (the most basic hello possible) and they all nod or mumble a hello. Throw in a little “cómo estás?” and they absolutely POP. OFF. I feel so bad that I can’t contribute any more!

I currently work demolition and am the only white boy on a crew of all Mexicans. All except one of them speaks English very well.

It is crazy how much Spanish you can pick up living in California... but every time I can say some random shit in Spanish, they all laugh with delight.

We were carpooling to a job, and the older Mexican who doesn't speak English was driving and stopped at the AM/PM in the ghetto.

Ahead of us in line, was a 300 lbs prostitute wearing only a bra and crotchless panties. At this part of town, everyone noticed, but just treated it like it was normal.

We get back to the car, and the driver was asking me in broken English with Spanish if I liked that.

I told him, "no grande culo."

Him and my other coworker are still laughing about that a month later.
