When my kids were in elementary school about 10 years ago, we lived literally three blocks away from the school - and could watch them walk virtually the entire way on sidewalks.

We had other parents calling us irresponsible for not dropping them off. Completely insane.

Our neighborhood isn’t gated or anything, but thankfully I do see kids walking home from elementary (which starts in first grade), and there are sidewalks everywhere though.

Bummer. My son’s elementary school is across from a park where we have gate access to and then a walk into the back gate the rest of the way.

At what age can they just do this alone?
