I live in the third world. I've seen 5 year olds watching 2 year olds out in the streets for hours just hanging out without an adult in sight. Kids at 7 are riding the public transportation without help. Totally different world.

To be fair, in the U.S. we also leave kids in hot cars and the numbers rise every year of dead overheated children. We also have more pedophiles living on our streets than in the 80s and 90s and just because the people occupying Reddit made it home, doesn’t mean all children are making it home. Take into account the population of people now days which is also higher and we go back to the Texas case of the little girl playing out front who got hit by a delivery driver, delivery driver kidnapped her and then killed her. She was hit and taken from her own yard. We don’t know the millions of drivers Amazon and delivery services are hiring now days. There’s also the popular influencer who is currently being dragged because she shared her kids jumping on their pool cover while bragging they chose the cover instead of a fence and it’s more fun than the actual pool. Those covers kill even adults fast if we get under them, she thinks it’s funny to have her children jumping on it. So, now does it sound that safe to let a 5 year old that isn’t mature for their age to wander to a pond and play in the pond by themselves in this developed nation? No.

What the heck does any of this have to do with the comment you are replying to? I also think you should maybe spend a bit less time online for your own mental health. That’s alllllooooot of anxiety provoking headlines jammed into your comment.
