Getting to play stadiums is literally a dream come true for any smaller artist, massive kudos to him for doing the right thing despite losing that opportunity. Just sucks for him that it even had to come to this.
Yeah, even Macklemore is basically going to be unaffected by this in terms of his reach. He's never going to be the biggest star in the world, but he's going to have a career basically as long as he wants one and this will get him as many gigs as it will cost him because everyone already knows what he's about. Good on Aaron Rowe for having principles as a smaller artist.
Exactly right. I don't think a lot of people realize that artists at that sort of middle tier (somewhere between indie and major act) are pretty much barely hanging onto having a career in music at all times, even if they have had some success. Maybe they have enough recognition/reach to get tour support slots & a label deal (who can drop you at any moment) but not quite enough to where you are fully established and have a dedicated fanbase that can sustain your career longterm without those bigger opportunities coming in. Backing out of this knowing what it could cost him is truly commendable.
Hijacking a higher level comment because many folks don't know that subscribing to a channel and then not watching content from it actually hurts the channel's algorithm rankings, meaning that content won't be served to users as often.
If you subscribe to a channel and never watch anything on that channel, YouTube flags that behavior and applies it to the algorithmic rankings it uses to decide what random shit it's going to shovel into your face to keep you on platform watching videos. It's in their interest to serve content that people will watch, serving content that was interesting enough to hit subscribe on but not interesting enough to pull you back isn't what they want.
TLDR don't subscribe to channels you will never watch, you'll hurt that channels rankings and their content will be served less frequently to other people who might actually want to watch it.
Indeed. And if YouTube sees that a subscription doesn't necessarily mean you will watch a video, they might not serve that video to others (even if those others had subscribed for the normal reasons)
Hey thanks for the apple link. This cats alright you know! Didn’t know he’s Irish, that’s a win in my book. Good on him for staying true to himself and remembering where he comes from. May he go far! 🇮🇪✊
I know that your comment is supposed to be a dig, but music is a very human act of creation that does sound sweeter when it comes from an artist that values humanity.
Exactly. There are people on here like “he only did it for pr only and has nothing to lose from this move” as if being black balled by billionaires and the people that control the music industry isn’t going to be a massive hit. One of the biggest barriers to success. The machine controls everything. That’s why Ed Sheeran can be mid as fuck and still be as successful as he is. He listens to the masters.

Wow. Good for him. I hadn't heard of him before this, but I'd like to listen to his music now.
