Kal-el, no!

u/DistanceMachine Sep 15 '26

Honestly, even reading that in my head in her voice was still more believable than her saying it on-screen. And that was her BEST take. Can you imagine the worse ones?

80

u/DueRelationship522 Sep 15 '26

try saying it yourself in a manner that cares less than her in that scene.

it's so hard to do 🤣

2

u/AdeptSwordfish1096 Sep 15 '26

I don’t think she said it in a way that requires an exclamation point. Just a period.

1

u/ShopSweet6798 Sep 15 '26

😂😂😂

2

u/Naive-Grocery-1179 Sep 15 '26

Most appropriate response ever.

1

1

I'm sorry to be so pedantic about this but you got the punctuation entirely wrong, its more like.

"Kal-el, no."

If you can imagine

That imagine moment in the middle of a national pandemic/shutdown permanently opened my eyes to that absolute nonsense that is celebrity worship in my country. Working class americans fighting tooth & nail paycheck to paycheck for survival, while we look up people with fame that ultimately look down at us like children or even cattle. I dont even use instagram or watch tv like I used to when I was a teenager. Its all just slop served on lunchplate that we never even asked for. Everything ive ever heard about sexxy redd or the kardashians has been against my will. They force feed us bullshit and ask that we sing their praises. Even the concept of paparazzi is completely insane but we’re so desensitized to it here. I am absolutely blessed to be born in this country but I think about leaving permanently atleast once a week. If youre not a celebrity, high ranking military officer, or politician, than your a wage slave used to keep the gears turning for the privileged. I’m sorry for the rant, but 20s has been so eye opening. I cant believe i ever gave a fuck about what bella hadid was wearing or who a singer was dating. Absolutely pathetic. The tabloid magazines sold by the check out st grocerie stores. Digusting. And the irony that the celebs on those magazines dont even dontheir own grocery shopping. Somebody does it for them. Then to top it all off, the people that run these industries silence our voices on subjects that ACTUALLY MATTER. I will do everything in my power to make sure my kids dont fall into the hypnotization this country puts the masses through. Thats all we can do. This system is absolutely fucked.

Edit: this POST has become the most liked post this year and its only been up less than 24hours. This is incredible. This might end up being the most upvoted post in the history of this sub in a matter of days. Thats awesome.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bread_and_circuses#Ancient_Rome

"Already long ago, from when we sold our vote to no man, the People have abdicated our duties; for the People who once upon a time handed out military command, high civil office, legions — everything, now restrains itself and anxiously hopes for just two things: bread and circuses." - Juvenal

https://www.azquotes.com/author/2470-George_Carlin/tag/choices, especially the first two quotes.

"Governments don't want a population capable of critical thinking, they want obedient workers, people just smart enough to run the machines and just dumb enough to passively accept their situation. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own, and control the corporations. They've long since bought, and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear." - George Carlin

"The things that matter in this country have been reduced in choice, there are two political parties, there are a handful insurance companies, there are six or seven information centers.. but if you want a bagel there are 23 flavors. Because you have the illusion of choice!" - George Carlin

Average people if they banded together can take these owners, billionaires etc., down. We just need to start one business at a time. Just Stop Buying And Don't Go Back to that business. Move on to the next. this will terrify them the most. But the billionaires keep us divided against ourselves . that’s how they rose to the top. Average people have always held the power. they just never realized it. JUST STOP BUYING…ONE BUSINESS to start. Target felt the pain but people got lazy and started going back. People love their bread & circuses

Celebrities are so incredibly overpaid I don’t get it. I really hope society gets to a place where people who positively contribute to humanity (eg nurses, paramedics, etc) are paid more than people acting in movies or doing nothing on social media. It’s nauseating!

3

u/indieguy33 Sep 15 '26

I feel the same way as you do. We have been so conditioned to be in awe of celebrities and the goings on in their lives. Why? Why do we care when as you point out the majority of us are doing what we can to survive. They give zero fucks for the most part about the people that have made them wealthy beyond their wildest dreams. But we keep consuming what we are fed so why do we exist that’ll change.
Reddit for better or worse in the only social media I belong to and I don’t plan on that changing anytime soon.

3

u/CohuttaHJ Sep 15 '26

It’s all a part of growing up I think. I’m an elder millennial and I came to the same conclusion you did in my mid 20s. I can’t remember the last time I watched a movie in a movie theater. I can however count on one hand how many movies I’ve seen from the past twenty years. I’d really like to quit Reddit next. It’s just as bad for your mental health.

1

u/TrailerParkBuddha Sep 15 '26

Reddit fundamentally changed after it became a public traded entity and the push to make it profitable began.

1

u/lhazard29 Sep 15 '26

I always thought the obsession with celebrities was weird even before all the “we’re in this together” stuff during COVID. But I always chalked it up to me just not being that social of a person in general and preferring to keep to myself. Now that I’m in my mid 20s, maybe I had the right idea all along.

1

u/Ordinary_Benefit_988 Sep 15 '26

Their second hand person doesn’t even do the shopping, it’s like a third or fourth down and probably a tax write off somehow all the while paying less taxes than you and I, effectively living off our dollar.

0

u/Ignaue Sep 15 '26

Are you somehow laboring under the delusion that other countries don’t also idolize celebrities?

Celebrity, is not an American concept or construct. Incredibly dumb way to phrase what could have been a good point.

1

u/Mikemgmve Sep 16 '26

I see no allusions to it being just an American issue, rather just them sharing their own lived experience. There's no intentional comparisons saying other countries don't do the same thing.

128

u/Accomplished_Fly_593 Sep 15 '26

no thanks, I'd rather not

50

u/SippyTurtle Sep 15 '26

Kal-el no thanks.

1

u/Tome_Bombadil Sep 15 '26

Just now, I have started hearing this line in my head with a Christopher Walken voice.... and I find it more believable than Gal's.

1

u/edwardturnerlives Sep 15 '26

I was thinking Ed and Charlie Crockett could go a loser tour together.

1

u/Glitter-Pear Sep 15 '26

Her musical act was the low point on the Snow White live action
