Same, really not into that style of music, but I am going to give him an honest listen, even if just to give him 1 more listen, because he stood up for the powerless at a very great cost to himself.

u/wildcurrents Sep 15 '26

I mean they’re opening up for Ed Sheeran. What the fuck do you expect hahah Radiohead? But again really respect the sacrifice in being at such a high stage and opportunity. Free Palestine.

5

u/Treadmills4Breakfast Sep 15 '26

This guy has gained 10k followers in like 35 mins I think his decision to sacrifice the tour is getting rewarded bigtime. Every time you refresh the number leaps ahead. Lol

1

u/Cardocthian Sep 15 '26

Personally was hoping for a DJ set with some Westcoast Bass :D
Or slipknot.

Ed is missing out on expanding his audience.
But he clearly isn't missing out on causing them to walk!

u/mmmasian Sep 15 '26

Me either, but I'm going to give him a follow on Spotify and stream some of his songs. Least he deserves for what he's sacrificing to make a point.

spotify CEO supports Israel/expanding AI weapons proliferation so maybe switch to something like Tidal...

29

u/Loud_Bison572 Sep 15 '26

Wasn't Diddy involved with tidal?

37

u/Weary_Fee7660 Sep 15 '26

And jay z, who is a shitty billionaire in his own right these days…

21

u/ElliotNess Sep 15 '26

Block Inc, CEO Jack Dorsey, has an 86% ownership share of Tidal, and neither Block Inc nor Jack Dorsey have investments with Israel or AI weapons technology. (Unlike Spotify)

4

u/Weary_Fee7660 Sep 15 '26

I hear you. jay z has a line of dispensaries where he likes to pay people minimum wage. Definitely not really comparable to supporting a genocidal ethno-state, just pointing out that even the “good” billionaires like Jay z probably got that way by taking advantage of people.

6

u/ElliotNess Sep 15 '26

No pushback on that, except it's weird you keep talking about Jay Z when he's just a public name attatched with minimal stake. There is no good billionaire. There is no "good" corporation. However, if one must get a streaming service, giving money to Spotify is probably the least good option, since that money is definitely going to both Israel and ai weaponry.

Deezer is a good option.

0

u/Substantial-Mix-6200 Sep 15 '26

ah it looks like it. Maybe just financially though. We shouldn't assume everything Diddy invested in is tainted

7

u/morriere Sep 15 '26

or qobuz

1

u/schizophrenicbugs Sep 15 '26

I've used Tidal since 2020 and it is amazing. I really hope people move away from Spotify. It's such an obnoxious and predatory company.

1

u/disisathrowaway Sep 15 '26

Yeah, that's owned by Jack Dorsey. Dorsey has only co-founded Twitter and other famously ethical services like Afterpay.

1

u/beerandloathingpdx Sep 16 '26

Jay Z sucks ass too. Qobuz is where I ended up.

1

u/ginabeee89 Sep 15 '26

He’s also on YouTube. Subscribing will probably make a bigger difference than Spotify.

161

u/TitusNox Sep 15 '26

Sounds like an artist I'd put on mute while I sleep so they get streams.

97

u/Hung0ver_Hero Sep 15 '26

That's literally what I did with Macklemore last night, don't care for his music one bit but I applaud him, so I shuffled his spotify on mute as I watched football and went to sleep

27

u/Hybrid_Johnny Sep 15 '26

Macklemore’s been saying it consistently for years, and as such, I have been listening to him on mute for years

11

u/TitusNox Sep 15 '26

He's a fellow Washingtononian so I just listen to him. He's in my "Seattles Hits" playlist.

2

u/ElliotNess Sep 15 '26

You could just actually listen to the music. Music we like is largely music we've listened to and become familiar with. That's why the radio stations play the same songs every day, and that's why your favorite songs were probably on a radio station.

2

u/Hybrid_Johnny Sep 15 '26

I’ve listened to him before, I don’t dislike his music, it’s just not something I would actively seek out to listen to. This was meant to be a joke, I have nothing against the guy and wish him all the best

1

u/ElliotNess Sep 15 '26

It's just weird to listen to him for years on mute imo.

1

u/Hybrid_Johnny Sep 15 '26

Again, it was a joke referencing the previous post about putting him on mute and letting it “play” in the background to add to his stream count

9

u/ttue- Sep 15 '26

That’s what we all need to do

2

u/philter25 Sep 15 '26

How long until companies figure this out and only give artists stream counts when users volume is at a certain percent?

1

u/CoyoteScribbles Sep 15 '26

Twitch already does that with livestream viewers so I wouldn't be surprised if Spotify yoinks the idea sooner rather than later.

7

u/_crows_have_eyes Sep 15 '26

The Vulfpeck special ❤️

2

u/JGStonedRaider Sep 15 '26

Doubt that works tbh. If you can turn off your speakers, you can do it that way.

1

u/peridotpaiute Sep 15 '26

Came to say this!

1

u/saw24601 Sep 15 '26

have him on mute right now while I’m at work!

1

u/shortandfelly Sep 15 '26

That's actually a great idea 😁

1

u/OGWopFro Sep 15 '26

Sounds like Ima let you all handle that one. Good luck to the dude, I love his stand but that’s just not my type of music. 🤝

11

u/DistanceMachine Sep 15 '26

Honestly, it’s not my standard choice but wow, he’s really good and Hey Ma is a powerful song. I’d happily listen to this kind of music with my wife on a road trip.

Also his voice is really cool. I think Jakob Dylan has a cooler voice but his is really cool too.

31

u/Banned_and_Boujee Sep 15 '26

Just stream it passively in the background, like all those wine moms do for that “Choosin’ Texas” song.

-2

u/PurpleAntifreeze Sep 15 '26

Because no one could ever truly enjoy something you don’t like?

1

u/RollerDude347 Sep 15 '26

Give it a go! 5 mins and an added tally on youtube! Surely you can help him that much...

1

u/MWoody13 Sep 15 '26

Macklemore does not have country vibes, idk wtf that comment is talking about

1

u/abbyabsinthe Sep 15 '26 edited Sep 15 '26

Irish country slaps though. CMAT is Irish and is country-adjacent (probably technically more country than what’s on the US charts), and she’s amazing.

Edit: I just checked him out myself. He’s got a voice similar to Tom Waits. Kinda dig it.

1

u/disisathrowaway Sep 15 '26

Gonna give him a listen on my way home form work today. Even if I don't like him I'll gladly put him on with the volume low overnight.

1

u/LollyGaggleofGeese Sep 15 '26

Play him when you're in the other room. Still counts.

18

u/jackbear0410 Sep 15 '26

Ok I'm intrigued!

2

u/DistanceMachine Sep 15 '26

Hey Ma is really good

4

u/cahawkri3510 Sep 15 '26

First song I chose (never heard of him before). Fantastic rainy day song! Damn I love Irish singers.

4

u/Ice_Bead Sep 15 '26

Sounds like my exact vibe omg I have to check him out now

1

u/GodKamnitDenny Sep 15 '26

Perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea, but this just sold me

1

u/dingdongdeVilish Sep 15 '26

Just streamed a few songs and I dig him. Gave him a follow to support his decision

1

u/caelynnsveneers Sep 15 '26

I listened to two songs and you are absolutely right. It’s very sad boy music lol I might have to stream him on mute

1

u/therealjgreens therealjgreens Sep 15 '26

lol dude this guys PR team crushed it today. This is so obviously yet another tactic to get exposure.

70

u/hellomondays Sep 15 '26

I'm not a acoustic the singer songwriter guy but listening right now he's got a cool voice

70

u/KennyKettermen Sep 15 '26

Me on the other hand, I’m the biggest acoustic singer songwriter guy and his shit slaps.

Might not have ever found him if he didn’t take a stand, good shit from Aaron Rowe.

11

u/Aerandril Sep 15 '26

I’m not either! But I find his music to be beautiful and haunting and interesting. Will be adding him to my rotation.

1

u/annikatidd Sep 15 '26

Hot and haunting was exactly what I said about his voice lmao

3

u/baconperogies Sep 15 '26

Aaron Rowe - Hey Ma

Never heard of him. Subbed and will look out for his music.

1

u/duh_cats Sep 15 '26

Me too!

Fuck, at this point I’ll listen to him/buy his shit even if I don’t like his music because fuck Israel.

1

u/RollerDude347 Sep 15 '26

Right behind you!

1

u/dreamy-pizza Sep 15 '26

Ticketmaster has crashed while trying to get local tickets to see him!

1

u/EffectiveEquivalent Sep 15 '26

Same. Better than Ed Sheeran easy.

1

u/Ok-Problem-9226 Sep 15 '26

I checked him out, not my jam at all but I wish him the best!

1

u/DrDuGood Sep 15 '26

Ditto! We should all do our part and make him even more famous. These are the people who NEED the stage.

1

u/lnx84 Sep 15 '26

Just did the same.

1

u/seams Sep 15 '26

I checked him out, not really my cup of tea but added a few songs to my driving playlist

1

u/IT_dood Sep 15 '26

Just followed.

1

u/alexopaedia Sep 15 '26

I just put him on and he's really good! I'll definitely be recommending his music!

1

u/Enlight1Oment Sep 15 '26

listening to Hey Ma right now, didn't know Aaron before this but he's pretty good singer.

1

u/Troj1030 Sep 15 '26

Same. Never heard of him but he has a listener now.
