I was living down there when that operation happened. It went from a sting that busted dozens of johns and rescued victims from sex trafficking to oh it was a whorehouse ran by this evil Chinese lady so fast violated laws of physics.
He's a wealthy English man. He's not got a lick of actual Irish in him (ancestry aside) and he's out of touch with the plight of commoners cause he's been rich as hell for ages
Eh he’s a shitty musician who mislead people about being a struggling artist despite having parents who owned an art gallery and consultancy. He only slept on couches because he was too cheap to get his own apartment.
And now he defends a genocide and licks the boot of an Epstein accomplice.
You are right about the other stuff, but ed Sheeran is a very good musician. Doesn't mean I like any of the music he has made since 2013, but he's a generational songwriter and easily the most talented guitarist in the mainstream pop scene, where most singers don't even play instruments. Nonexistent spine though.
His lack of conviction is apparent in his response by failing to label the “conflict” what it actually is: a genocide. He’s fully complicit by not taking any explicit stance.
He doesn’t need our approval jfc how are you this dense? We yearn to see solidarity from those in power and elevated platforms to voice support of the innocent lives being slaughtered.
I don’t doubt the possibility that he may have provided support in private. Even if he did anything of the sort, the question still remains (and something you still fail to consider): why didn’t he denounce the genocide? It’s as simple as typing out two simple words and he made his choice to fence-sit.
Not every musician needs to have an opinion. Like anyone cared about his political views a week ago. Macklemore kind of screwed him here in that respect. Agree it's not a good look though
I do agree. I have no idea why the fuck anyone cares about Pink's, Ed's, Macklemore's opinion is on it. Can we get Ja Rule to weigh in next?
I believe it's a genocide, I believe we should be doing more as a society to be stopping shit like this happening but the reality is people are more than happen to be outraged online over a celebrities shitty opinion but how many of them are just jumping onto the moral bandwagon? If people actually gave as much of a shit as social media would have us believe something would have been done by now. Economic sanctions, anything! Most countries won't even directly condemn it ffs.
Because they have much larger platforms and resources that can be used. Fine call it a pipe dream, but we’re talking about the action or lackthereof of the top 1%.
Don't get me wrong I agree and if I had this platform I'd have the backbone to share my opinion especially if I had accrued the kind of wealth he has but at the end of the day he's just a dude like you or me.
We place far too much stock in what random fucking celebrities think, they shouldn't be our moral compasses. Who gives a shit what they think. Other musicians have done far worse things and people still support them.
Kevin Sorbo's band is confirmed, so everyone can get excited to see Kountry Kevin's Kentucky Red-White-and-Bluegrass Jug Band open for Ed Sheeran. I figured they were gonna get Matisyahu, but literally nobody knows who tf that is, and his manager at the Arco wouldn't give him time off anyway.
OK I'm thinking he needs to lean in hard and go full out non-Irish Irish artists and get U2 as an opener. Who is more hated amongst the Irish than Bono
I was going to say New Jersey as a joke. Half the state claims Irish or Italian heritage of some kind. I had a housemate who swore up and down he was Irish. Wore a kilt on special occasions. Went to every single Irish festival in the state, only drank st Irish bars etc. His story never sounded right so when one of the DNA testing sites sent me coupons for half off during the holidays, I gave him the code. Turns out, as I suspected, that he was something like only 2 percent Irish and the rest was mostly Eastern European and some other unrelated stuff. Tons of people like that in this state and their only link to their “heritage” is that they had a great great grandparent from that country somewhere down the line.
I think when people in the US say they’re Irish or Italian it’s shorthand for irish/italian-american which are their own cultures in a way. I was raised Irish Catholic in Boston and there is a subculture to that that shaped who I am. It’s not Irish Irish but my upbringing was definitely different than some other white mormon dude in Utah or something
Dude was born and raised in England. I don't know if ancestry in the UK works like in the US where you can claim to be 4% irish, but to me he is yet another english man.
He refers to himself as "an Englishman" in "Galway Girl." MF was born in Yorkshire and raised in Suffolk. He's more English than beans on toast and a Christmas panto before a full Sunday roast.
he also basically forced his way into an English soccer team's practice and sang for the squad during the world cup. Basically fanboyed over them while they kinda just stared awkwardly at him
Technically I believe he was telling the story of his grandparents in that song. The Englishman he referred to was his grandfather if I understand correctly. Not that I disagree with your point regardless.
In fairness to Ed he’s not as plastic paddy as a lot of the Irish heritage claimers, he has spent summers in Ireland and has plenty of family here, his cousin Laura Sheeran for example is a relatively known local artist
British and Irish citizens more or less get free permanent residency in either country and fast track citizenship either way if resident for long enough. So there’s a lot of fully Irish people in the UK who have barely been to Ireland.
When I was in Galway the locals told me his grandparents were Irish, and he’d be out busking in Galway all the time before he was known. The Galwegians seemed to love him, had great memories of him.
Ed isn't a child of immigrants, he's a grandchild of one immigrant. He's more English than he is Irish, as much as he would like everyone to believe otherwise (being Irish works better for his brand, and incidentally, claiming a culture that's not his own seems to be more on brand than previously thought).
People from Ireland had their childhoods, their parents and grandparents entire lives and history for 800 years oppressed by a foreign government. The troubles were long and lasting.
Cunt is more concerned singing about Galway girls but can't imagine the suffering the Irish people have been through in the past and what parallels there are today
Ed wants to claim his Irish heritage and act like it's a huge part of his upbringing. Sorry dude, but if you were really Irish you'd be supporting Palestinians. FFS the Israeli national soccer team wasn't allowed to come in to play the Irish team just recently because of this...

Both referenced their Irish heritage which Ed shares.
