I big "THANK YOU" and a small question

First, thank you to all involved with the Music Assistant project. Great work!

My question is if there's anything known I can look into to fix an issue with what seems like CD skipping or stream processing issues that are only an present with the Android app. Currently using version 0.14.0. I started experiencing this in app v0.13.0 too, but not for the first 99% of the time I was using this version/several weeks. All music sources effected. Sendspin working well everywhere else. Uninstalled/reinstalled app. Not seeing anything matching up in logs. Pixel 10 Pro fully up to data. Wi-Fi and cellular. Phone speakers and Bluetooth headphones.

Thanks!

Snapchat performance

Edit: sorry, title should be snapserver performance - autocorrect.

I am very early in my use of MA but pretty happy with the promise of it.

One use case I'm struggling with is playing with a PC as a client/player.

I have a study where sometimes I just listen to music and read. Using Spotify connect (pre MA) there player would often be available for me to trigger playback from my phone or watch. But it was inconsistent. Still, 60% of the time I could start playback without touching my PC.

Since switching to MA it seems like my only option is to have snapclient running in a browser. This generally requires me to re-open it every time I return to listen, meaning I'm opening my PC 100% of the time. The browser snapclient is also very laggy and I end up with skipped segments of songs and podcasts and can't really skip ads in podcasts because there's a massive delay between trigger and response. I have been using the onboard snapserver provider in MA.

I have another self hosted snapserver running and am considering running a stand alone snap client off a rpi, then running multiple sources, including PC through a small mixer.

But am I missing something? Is the browser snapclient my only PC option? Is it's performance always riddled with delays and skipped segments? Is there a performance difference between the MA snapserver and a self hosted one?

If you would start fresh what players would you pick?

I had 5 squeezebox players so far and it feel they are starting to slowly get worse. I struggle with spotify integration.

my goal is have 2 player synced in living room and kitchen and nonsynced player in each room.

Is rpi zero a good player? run squeezelite?

Is it better to run some Chromecast audio device?

thanks

Milkdrop + Music Assistant for rooted LG TVs

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

https://github.com/mnestrud/viz-man

This is a milk drop visualizer plug-in that I created for rooted LG TVs over the past few days. It does not do any music control, it only receives the milk drop timing information from the milk drop plug-in in music assistant and renders it using webgl.

Lots of qol features - automatic viz benchmarking and selection, favorites sync, dimming, track info, on and on.

AI was harmed during development.

I think the HA community is just getting going with the rooted TVs. I can't wait to install a different launcher...

Listening Room, a Tactile Music UI for Mac

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Introduces Listening Room, a locally running music player UI built on top of Music Assistant.

Focuses on a more tactile, nostalgic browsing experience inspired by Winamp and Technics decks.

Parts...

  • Poster wall for Music Assistant recommendations
  • Mixtapes / playlists with direct play support
  • Album shelf browsing with alphabetical jumping and album actions
  • Radio tuner for favorite stations
  • Equaliser visualization while playback is active

The app is early-stage and still running locally, but the core interactions are in place and usable. Let me know your thoughts!

Mini remote speaker remote control

NOTE: This app was fully vibe coded. I'm a developer by day, and just wanted to see how quickly I could put this out there. I find it useful, you probably won't - but hopefully it will inspire you to write something similar!

the player

This is a very lightweight app that is basically a remote control for a speaker, it's not about letting you pick music to play, just controlling a speaker.

I have a small esp32 running this project: https://github.com/RealDeco/SendspinZero on my desktop and I wanted a way from my laptop to be able to see what's playing, favourite tracks, control the volume (scroll wheel while over the player), use the keyboard media control buttons to skip tracks, and my favourite feature is to pause music when I'm in a call.

Controlling the volume with a scroll wheel

If you would find it useful feel free to grab it here: rossdargan/music-assistant-desktop

The minimized view

You can also click the album art and it will shrink it to just the album in the bottom left.

Music assistant YouTube Music queries

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have YouTube music setup with Music Assistant.

I just recently noticed that my YouTube search history is filled with tons of random music searches.

I checked my account security and everything is just fine from everything I could tell but I was wondering if this was related to my integration with Music Assistant.

Has anyone else seen this before?

And no, I didn't do these searches myself. 😁

The player is not available

I've run out of ideas and so I was wondering if anyone else has seen the same issue.

3 tablets I'm trying to get to use Music Assistant
1: Samsung A8
2: Samsung TabA
3: Amazon Fire 8

All 3 have fullykiosk on them and I can play Music Assistant with that connection no problem.
The reason we'd prefer to use Music Assistant on them is that it uses sendspin so they can all play in sync as they can connect to BT speakers.

The same MA user is used in all 3.
Set as role: user and no other restrictions.

1: This one's player connects via FKiosk + Music Assistant. Works fine and syncs with the Shield

2+3: Only FKiosk works. Music Assistant connects and I can login with either MA user or HA user. I see the full library, but the playername is not shown in the Players list in MA and when I do try, it says "The Player is not Available".
Tested with a web browser logging and it worked fine. It's just the player in the app that doesn't seem to connect to the server.

Songs don't appear in Playlist

I just added Music Assistant to my HA which is running on a raspberry pi 4.

The basics work but if I need to look for the contents in a Playlist on the Dashboard card it loads forever. In music assistant everything is slowly filling up I guess because everything is sycning. But it would be cool if the card worked too...

Sonos+ speakers in mixed group delayed by approx 10 seconds.

New to trying to get sync working with multiple devices. I tried mixing the following devices:

1) Jailbroken Echo Show running Satellite Kiosk
2) Apple TV via Airplay
3) Sonos Play:1 in a stereo pair

The Echo Show and the AppleTV work great together. Perfect sync and starts quickly. Unfortunately, if I add the Sonos+ speakers, they take about 10 full seconds to begin and are then 10 seconds behind the other speakers and never sync up.

Even if I start the Sonos+ speakers all on their own, they take 10 seconds to begin playback.

I can’t imagine this is the expected behavior. My network is all UniFi and the Sonos system works perfectly outside of Music Assistant. Any ideas what’s causing this huge delay and sync fail?

YAML question: Button press > Start X spotify playlist on Y player (bonus if shuffle)

Apologies if this has already been posted, but my searches are coming up blank. I've also asked our AI overlords and they haven't provided a working automation.

Anyhow, does anyone have a working script that can be activated by a dashboard button and start a particular spotify playlist playing on a particular player entity? Starting in Loop/Shuffle would be a bonus.

Much thanks!

I wanted a native app to control music assistant on my pc

Thumbnail

Full disclosure, I did use AI to build this app as C# isn't my first language but I can understand most of it.

I wanted an native app to connect to music assistant. There's nothing wrong with the current Music Assistant Desktop app or the web interface. I just like having native apps since most of what I use are web apps on my pc. Not all of the features are built out but most of them are.

It has a persistent Sendspin player so you can play music locally and transfer it from from your computer to wherever.

Was this needed? probably not. This project was a "just cause" because I wanted to learn a new programming language. I do use it everyday now. If you would like to contribute, here's the github repo: https://github.com/artistro08/music-assistant-native

And you can install it from the Microsoft Store here: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9N0L3WRKFC58?hl=en-us&gl=US&ocid=pdpshare

Please let me know what you think. and if you find any bugs

Problems with Shuffle

For the past few months Ive had an automation working well, where for our alarm at a certain time via Music Assistant starts playing a random song from an album we have chosen for that week or month.

It's worked well for a number of months, but recently after swapping to a new album it will still only ever play the first song in an album no matter if the 'shuffle' is enabled. There have been many MA updates over the past few months and I've been trying to trouble shoot.

Here is the automation that had been working fine, has something changed with MA? Eve when testing and I set the player to shuffle and hit play on an album, it reverts back to non-shuffled and plays the first track in the album.

Can anyone help or is there a better way to do this?

New user trying to figure out how players are supposed to work

I have set up music assistant over the weekend. It's working well on an individual device by device level, but I can't seem to control multiple players from the same machine.

If I log in to multiple devices as a normal user, the only player I can see is the device I am currently on.

If I log into multiple devices as an admin, I can see all the players from the settings menu. However, I can only play music from the device I am currently on.

I thought I would be able to see all my players that are currently logged into my account, and play different music on each player, from a single device. Is that correct?

How is the play on: functionality supposed to work, and how do you set it up?

Different artists same name

Hi,

I am having an issue with Tidal integration and Music Assistant. It seems artists that have similar names (ex:loud and LOUD) are being grouped together under the same artist in Music Assistant. I only see this behavior under Music Assistant and it's quite annoying. Does anyone know how to fix or is this a bug? I also use Roon with Tidal and I don't have this problem.

Albums all not showing under artist

So, I have a HA running MA connecting to a NAS over an SMB share. On the share, folders are organised as Genre -> Artist -> Album, and these all show and play in MA under 'Browse' without issue. All tracks are MP3.

For one artist, with 29 albums however, under MA -> Artists, the group shows only 6 albums. As far as I can tell they're not showing under a different artist.

Why are some albums missing? How to show all albums?

Renovating a house - What would you do?

Currently my wife and kids mostly listen to music from Spotify through a few Amazon Echoes we have around the house - essentially one per room. Alexa is ... disobedient, doesn't play the right thing often when ordered, and playing across multiple speakers is so hit and miss that the missus has asked if I can fix it in the long term.

We are starting to renovate my mother-in-laws house in the next year or two so I want to ask what is the "best" set up and what mistakes have you made so I don't make the same ones.

Should we hard wire power for speakers rather than having battery powered anker/sonos ones? Are there PoE speakers available? What should I not even bother looking into? I saw Linus Tech Tips had ceiling mounted speakers in each room, and that might be approved by the wife but I guess she'd want each bed room to theoretically be able to play it's own music when our kids are older.

The house is in Austria, so solid brick and concrete walls means I want to do any cable runs during renovation rather than after.

Smart Playlist Missing Feature?

I'm trying to build some automations I can kick off from Home Assistant to build a dynamic play queue of podcasts. I have one podcast I want to play first, provided a new or incomplete episode is available. If I let the queue play out, it moves to a different podcast, picking the most recent new or incomplete episode, then proceeding to the next. I want this to update any time I call it, for example, as new episodes come in or as I possibly listen to an episode through other means on MusicAssistant.

I've tried a few methods to do this, but none are working exactly as I want. Many seem to just start an episode that isn't fully played at the beginning, or seem to ignore the play status all together.

Ideally, it seems the automation should just trigger a smart playlist in MusicAssistant. However, it seems episode state (played, unplayed, newest, in progress) isn't an available criteria. Am I wrong on this? Also, are there any plugins anyone's developed that get around this limitation?

FYI. It is absolutely possible to import favorites from Plex music to Music Assistant

I used OpenCode in Home Assistant create an automation that takes all 4 and 5 star rated Plex music tracks, took not of them all, and set the matching tracks in Music Assistant as favorites. I then had it check one last time and it made me a short list of tracks that did not match. In most cases they were simply Various Artist albums. FYI. You can do this as well. EDIT: This is to move from using Plex serving files on the same server to Music Assistant hosting the music files using local files. I have retired Plex for music
