So? The federal government heavily subsidizes the corn industry. They also subsidized the dairy industry. Anyone remember when the feds literally bought up tons and tons of American cheese wheels and stored them in dry caves for mold and spoilage control, and started handing out blocks of government cheese for free? Taxes should be used to help pay for services that help American society at large, especially the poorest and neediest of us.

b-but what if we run out of money to spend on bombs that vaporise non-white people overseas??

So that's the whole point of the post. You've expanded it from "these private businesses can't compete therefore capitalism is invalid," which is stupid, to "these subsidies are a drop in the bucket and worth it compared to all the other subsidies we have," which is a fair opinion to have, but not what the person is criticizing.

That's great and all, just don't say they're fair prices. You're taxing the private store and with that money subsidize the government one which competes with that exact store. Then go and call that store out for having unfair prices. Do that over and over again and you'll run out of private businesses that you can tax.

Yeah and that government subsidy created the monster that is the corn syrup industry that everyone hates. The government now has an awful time to ever cut back on that subsidy because farmers have specialized into it for decades. Corn and cheese got to branch out and kill competition because they can’t compete with the subsidies. Just like Mamdani stores threaten to run away and close others grocers if it’s too successful.

Did you know the Mamdani stores will be operated by private businesses? It’s a possible lobby being created that NYC will be critically reliant on.

Cool cool cool. But when it comes right down to it, I'd rather the government build grocery stores that actually provides a necessary service like feeding people with affordable, nutritious food than building gaudy ballrooms that help no one except corrup+ contractor cronies. Let Mamdani try and if he fails, then oh well, he fails. At least he tried.
