Yes, though I think besides Clinton, no one has reduced the deficit. It was Reagan who first established that cutting taxes and raising spending at the same time would win elections. After that everyone followed that lead except Clinton.
I am going to stop you right there. Deficit is for the year. Debt is the running 250 year total.
Barring a year or so that W didn’t but more than made up for, Republicans increase the Deficit every year, aka dig the hole deeper. The dirt yeeted right out and making the rim higher as well. And then walk away with a recession.
Democrats have to actually govern and spend on infrastructure and keep the hole from burying us alive in a Depression but they do manage to reduce the deficit. The only way to dig out of the hole is to make it wider and backfill to raise the floor as you go but that doesn’t happen for long before Republicans steal the shovels again.

He didn't do anything to make up for it. He simply left us with a massive deficit.
